The day we start depending on hearsay on facebook as to the length of the managers' contract surely has not arrived yet.

Clipped from FB... "not confirmed how long Nigel back for.... Untill we get a manager or untill end of season, somebody who very close to the club told me". I hope it's neither - temporary or holding appointments create uncertainty and destabilise players - how can they give 100% commitment to a manger who is not 100% committed. I'm sure Ben would have learned the pitfalls of having caretakers from the Roy Mac experience. Even if he went at the end of the season it should not be foretold now - if it is to be for just 6 months, let it be a secret between Ben & Nigel Agree that if true that knowledge would destabilise the team due to the uncertainty. But you know how these situations are...probably someone thinking they know more than they do, speculating as they say.

There is some right disrespective drivel on FB, mainly from younger supporters though who are either inexperienced or ignorant of what Nigel achieved here. I have been struggling to keep up on here today, can't ever remember it being so busy.

I have been struggling to keep up on here today, can't ever remember it being so busy. There is a lot of good stuff over there as well though. True the disrespectful stuff probably comes mostly from the young set who just talk crap for a laugh. But there are 5 times as many members there, and a lot more posts, so you would expect more sense and nonsense. For example, my post about Jimmy's total stats after one year had over 100 likes and lots of comments and the latest one thanking Jimmy has over 60, so they are not all clueless or vindictive.

Deserves a thread of its own I think. I'm delighted, about time for us all to get behind him. Really pleased about this news. Further to some recent banter with you on another thread where I predicted Sheff Utd would win League One this season, wouldn't it be ironic if Nigel could finish the job he started the season before last and win promotion from this League albeit with a different club, one where the chairman will give him licence to do his job without fear of the sack for losing two games on the trot? Welcome back Nigel.

Welcome back Nigel. Yes, and there are plenty of misguided friends who I would love to point that out to :-)

It may not turn out to be the best thing for club or Nigel (they say "never go back"), but I don't care at the moment. Absolutely overjoyed. All you need is Clough. And he'll get by with a little help from his friends.

Massively chuffed to have Nigel back.
Let's ignore all of the emotive stuff for a second.
A manager who has successfully managed in League One for two seasons. Spent five years in the Championship. Use to working within a tight budget. Good contacts. Someone who has been treated badly by the two teams he has managed and is looking for a bit of stability. Sounds like a great appointment.
The fact he was here before.....icing on the cake.
Does that mean Brayford's coming back too?

Would be disappointed if it's short term temporary appointment
My whole reason for wanting Nigel is long term stability
Would really want him committed to us long term
Hope that's the case

Don't forget that in the past Nigel always worked without a contract - so how longs a piece of string? He was here 10 years plus last time. Also by then Ben will be over 80 and will need to be thinking what he wants to do with his 98% shareholding at some stage.

I am a big believer in the old never go back theory and make no secret that I would have preferred a NEW appointment (although I don't know who), but if indeed NC is confirmed as manager tomorrow he will be welcomed and will obviously get my full support.

Is this a short term appointment or not? If it's short term I am totally against it! Just a quick comment on JFH he has to be the best manager ever due to winning the title and leaving BAFC top of league 1,beyond everybody's expectations. What does not sit well is theses managers who just decide to leave, when the so called project is half finished, surely another 6 months would have not been to much to ask,but then most of these people don't live in the real world, and loyalty means nothing to them.

Surely the project was to get promotion and then do well in league 1? I don't grasp the project half finished concept. Football clubs are constantly evolving and there is never an end point in reality.

Good to have it confirmed on the official site. Santa read my Christmas list early this year.

I am just thrilled to hear it is official - we are so lucky to be able to attract a manager of Nigel's stature - as in a few short weeks he may well have been installed at Nottingham Forest.

Excellent to have stability confirmed so quickly and looking forward to the now more experienced Nigel coming back.
I am guessing that he might just be looking to prove to the undeserving club down the A38 and the ungrateful steel town mob, just what they are missing out on?
A proper manager who is willing to work his way through a problem, without throwing money around and not expecting instant gratification!
Good luck again Nigel...great to see you back.
