I really hope it works out for Cloughie shabbily treated in his last two jobs IMO. He will get my full support I don't expect promotion at all.
In his shoes I wouldn't have taken it.
You do have to wonder if Burton really can go any further particularly on gates of 2800. We are punching above our weight and have been for some time.
I can't help thinking he is in a no win situation at a time in his career when he needs to build his stock.
I really do hope he rethinks his backroom staff. I've never understood what qualifications Garner, Taylor, Clough S have at this level. Great to have friends working for you where we were 10 years ago but not now.

Just hoping that this agreement in principle isn't some ruse to get Fawazz to pull the trigger on Freedman at Florist now Ben has played his card and made him an offer, having said that I am a born pessimist or so the wife tells me. Interesting point Forest just won a game - so fawaz will be in a good mood If they are playing today and lose he will be in bad mood That's how he works

For most others in the modern world it might be acceptable but for Clough not in a million years. Honourable man comes back to honourable club. I couldn't be more pleased. We were right with the chant at that Blades friendly - Cloughy's still a Brewer.

Ticket income is not that important compared to TV income We are a well managed club on a sound financial footing who don't carry debt or big wagebill If we did get promoted the income we get from TV etc and crowds which will be doubled or trebled by away fans will allow us to invest (wisely) in the team Nigel knows how to work to tight budgets as well as any manager in football He had to slash wagebill at derby and duck and dive whilst keeping them competitive You can argue our situation is the better one to face

I agree. Ticket income on average is about 10-15% so TV revenue is the most important income stream.

Blimey how fast things move, nipped out to get the mower serviced and return home to find out that a deal in principle to bring "our Nige" back as gaffer is done ! Absolutely brilliant news for all concerned with BAFC. He's watched our last 2 home games so knows what he has to work with, I actually think his style of football and tactics will suit this squad and not a great deal will change. Robbed of the accolade of the manager who took us into the football league due to the sheep maybe just maybe he could get the accolade as the manager who got us to the championship. In the words of his father Brian when Nigel asked him about first coming to Burton Albion "GO ON MY SON" !

How will the starting 11 change under Clough do you think?
If at all!

Managers like to have people around them they can trust Martin O'Neil used to have John Robertson as his assistant when he was younger Nobody at the clubs they worked at together actually knew what he did But O'Neill said "he is somebody I can trust" I realise we have to have big contributors in every role. We can't carry staff, I don't think we even have a chief scout at Burton as such. That's a job Simon Clough does for Nigel at other clubs. So it will be interesting what roles the club can actually find salaries for. At Burton I would suggest manager and assistant manager also have to be big into the coaching and also be the chief scout as well Brian Clough - he rarely coached. He employed scouts to find players and then might take a look himself. Different set ups. There won't be room on salaries for many of Nigels backroom team. Simon might do his job for expenses whilst we are in the League at least Who knows? Ben will tell them what the budget is

How will the starting 11 change under Clough do you think? If at all! Every person/manager has an ego that wants to be seen as having been an influence so yes he will tinker with the lineup, as Jimmy did, but I wouldn't expect anything drastic. But, things could change in January. - Jimmy has always said Nasser could play at the championship level - it was reported the other day that the 3 Albion players he sees potential in are Nasser, Palmer and Binnom-Williams - Robbie hasn't signed a new contract yet, so he could go in January, whether it's to QPR ?? - it will interesting to see how Nigel handles the Heinz Thiele and AJ striker situation. - we could sign some new players in January depending on finances re: the compensation from QPR. Jimmy signed a monthly rolling contact (assume that was still in place) and that means if a club takes him they only have to pay one years salary, rumoured to be in the £40-50K range). They could pay more as part of the negotiations though. Jimmy signed the same type of contract at QPR (in principle, it probably hasn't been signed yet. he didn't sign here until January I think).

With Academy reshuffle/new head coach this year at Derby I wonder if Wassall is involved in all this?

Peacock I thought jimmy signed for 2years plus the rest of the season he came which means he should have about 19 months left. As for £40-£50k thinks that's way low. Had it on good authority Rowett was on £70-£75k before he left so let's say Jimmy accepted the same plus surely a rise for promotion,I think nearer £100k would be closer. You only have to think what Beavon et al must be on because he must have been on a lump at Preston, as well as other signings since promotion

JFH was on £40,000 a year according to reports. I saw something in a London rag that we would get 1.6 million compo ! Whilst the first figure might be true I don't think we will ever know the compensation fee !

If JFH was on 40k or even 75k - there is ZERO chance of big compensation
He came on a very low wage either way. No reason at all to tie himself into a tough contract for compensation
We were a stepping stone. You don't climb on to a stepping stone and then tie yourself to it
Minimal compensation
But better than having to play a pre season friendly to get some cash for losing a manager without contract so we are moving forward in that respect
And even 50k compensation would be half our normal annual profit so it's big in relation to our club I guess

Just seams to be a very low amount,Christ even workers at Pirelli are on more than that.

Jimmy was on a fixed deal contract to the end of next season. His salary quite rightly was never disclosed. The press assumed £40 to £50K. I would have thought he was on more than that, but I don't know, and don't wish to know. The compensation would I think be fairly substantial, considering the upset and inconvenience this can cause the club losing their manager. It was reported that QPR wanted to pay in stages rather than a one off cash payment, which BAFC rejected. This would indicate, if true, a sum of more than a few thousand pounds. Regarding the return of Nigel, to my mind this was the obvious and best solution all round. I welcome him, but he must not be over pressurised. This is a difficult task, to take on a very good team in the optimum position they can be in. I would love us to get promotion, but wouldn't be unhappy to finish in the top ten in the first year of League 1. There are bound to be changes I feel in January, which could weaken us a little, but Nigel is an experienced good manager and I have every confidence in him.

The 40k figure came from an interview somewhere, the 1.6m from a London rag. Whatever its of little consequence. Claymillman I agree with your thoughts on Cloughie.

It sounds so childish to say it but compensation for backroom staff is covered in football manager games. It can be negotiated down from 100 per cent of contracted wage down to 10 per cent
I'm not aware of it being able to be negotiated up from the salary. Could be wrong
And although I say it's childish these games do reflect the general rules of the game nowadays so it's often a good place to look for stuff
(I don't play the games any more!! Lol)
And as I said before would be no benefit to JFH at all to allow extra inflated compensation to happen even I f clubs could do it. He's a shrewd guy.
I guess there is a small chance Ben built something into the deal but Ben didn't really hold any aces when sorting a contract for JFH. We could only offer a lowish wage etc
And uptil now Ben has been happy to allow managers freedom to move on etc
I think we will have normal compensation which for staff on our salaries won't be high

When was the last time the clubs accounts were published out of interest?
Seems a while since I've seen our profits?
