Agreed Peacock. Let's stop making a mountain out of a molehill. Nasser's a bit temperamental but all creative types have a bit of that, otherwise they would be mediocre, so we have to manage it a little. Or should I say Nigel will have to. Nasser probably needs a small word or two from someone like Moose, to just calm it a bit and keep on producing the magic on the pitch. He's the type of player who only needs to be at his best for ten minutes of a game to completely destroy a team and occasionally you have to put up with a bit of an off day. Thank you. Someone, somewhere said that Robbie had words with Nasser as he was going off and Moose stepped in to settle things down. That's a good captain handling a situation that happens in every team. There is no need to make that (Robbie-Nasser) into an issue either, it is simply passion.

This was not at the time of the substitution.

Ahh, wasn't sure where I had read it....here was your comment... "Given that Nasser didn't seem to like some words from Robbie Weir (entirely justified if it was a rollocking) and had to be escorted away by Moose, I suspect we may have an issue. Whilst no player likes to be substituted early, Nasser really didn't seem to be too impressed. I think I know a manager who doesn't like that kind of stuff. " Seems like trying create a problem where there isn't one? As I said a good captain handling a very common thing on the pitch between two very passionate players. Whether it was at the time of the substitution is the most irrelevant part of the discussion.

Hello brewers, gills fan in peace. First off congrats on a good win you certainly did a job on us which we made very easy for you by turning in one of our worst performances in quite a while, you weren't among the best teams I have seen this season but I can't think of a harder working one. I don't think there are too many complaints about the yellows we received and loft was an idiot to kick out when already on a yellow, what was very disappointing was the fact so many blatant dives and pull backs from yourselves were completely ignored despite happening directly in front of the officials, obviously this sounds a lot like sour grapes but it's not as we got what we deserved which was nothing, best of luck for the rest of the season

We maybe are not the most spectacular side in the division but we are solid, organised and work extremely hard for each other, our spirit and character are first class. This is no accident as both previous managers bought players into the squad that fitted that mould. I wouldn't say that we dive but are professional enough to get decisions, all sides I see pull back players etc unfortunately its part and parcel of the game. I understand from reading your forums that you weren't too impressed by the referee but we all get refs like that sometime over the season and it evens itself out. Think you have hit a bad patch but would think you have enough quality to recover.

Didn't see the incident with Robbie and Nasser yesterday to be honest but sounds similar to something that happened in the Wigan game the other week.
Nasser wasn't tracking his man back as Wigan attacked and as Robbie tried to cover two players he yelled something at Nasser quite loudly and clearly in annoyance that Nasser didn't seem to be doing what he should be.
I have no problem with players being disappointed at being subbed. All the players are chomping at the bit to have as much game time as possible. Timmy only had four minutes yesterday but came on and had an instant impact. Our other two subs both scored. It is about more than the starting eleven.

Totally agree about no problem with disappointment at being subbed etc
If he's still totally committed to Burton that's fine

I use the phrase 'join in' deliberately as for most of my time watching the Brewers and ESPECIALLY in this League burton are rank amateurs compared to most. Some might say that it is regrettable that the team are now indulging in the odd time wasting, shirt tugging and the profession foul ( I put fowl the first time I wrote this!!!) but as for diving, sorry I can't agree with you there. There was one instance that could be described as diving, Butcher I think it was who went down, but you cannot tell me that once in the game makes us a team of divers, and it would be interesting to see if he was taken down- certainly from our point of view he was and from yours he wasn't but it was the other end of the pitch to the vast majority of your fans who by that time were baying and complaining / getting on the referees back / supporting their team, in decibel levels and fervour that I must admit we Brewers could do with on a Saturday afternoon on a regular basis- you certainly get behind your team. So even if Butcher did dive contrast that to Stuart Bevan who went down a lot (and therefore could be thought of as diving by away fans in general) but is constantly hacked down by desperate defenders, and Saturday was no exception. What might appear like a dive from him is certainly not one. I think that I have been to Priestfields on three or four occasions and every time I have seen an up-tempo, no holes barred game between two committed sides in a stadium where the home fans play an important role and in the past have been a twelfth man for the team influencing the referee to the Gills advantage ( from our perspective!). This time however the constant baying I don't think did them any favours. One of the 154.

There is too much cheating in football. Referees dare not challenge it. It is now called "gamesmanship" and any team that doesn't do it is now effectively at a disadvantage. It's not new though. Leeds were great at it in the 1970s. Edit from Norah... If I was in a certain sort of mood "the Leeds team of the 1970s" might be banned phrase on the grounds of …well it shouldn't be mentioned ...

Just found this and although it is mentioned in the press link here it is in full….
Gillingham goalie Stuart Nelson hopes the team will take lessons from home defeat to Burton Albion
14 December 2015by Luke Cawdelllcawdell@thekmgroup.co.uk
Keeper Stuart Nelson hopes Saturday’s blow proves helpful in the long run.
The Gills played most of the game with 10 men against League 1 leaders Burton and went down 3-0.
It was a disappointing day but Nelson hopes they learn from it.
Gillingham keeper Stuart Nelson Picture: Barry Goodwin “There was no lack of effort and the boys are positive, they are young and they will learn from it,” said Nelson.
“We will go down to 10 men again, it’s inevitable, and now that young group will have that experience of what it will be like with 10 men.
“We need to take that experience, look forward, turn it into a positive and use it next time. If it does happen again the boys can take it on the chin a lot easier.”
Nelson picked up the sponsors’ man-of-the-match award after a busy day against Burton.
Two of the goals came in the final stages of a game made tougher following Doug Loft’s first-half dismissal.
It was Gillingham’s first home league defeat of the season.
“They got the two late goals and that didn’t tell the full story, and that’s disappointing,” said the keeper.
“They scored their second late in the game while we were pushing to get a goal.
“We had a good record at Priestfield that we wanted to protect and in the second half, with the 10 men, we changed our tactics and tried to get a positive result.
“We were in the game for quite a long time.”
Gillingham conceded the second goal in the last minute and a third in stoppage time.
“Once the second goal went in it took the stuffing out of us a bit,” said Nelson.
“It flatters them with the result and doesn’t really tell a tale but up until that second goal we were right in the game, creating chances.
“You always feel we are going to get a goal, because that is what we are about. We do dig deep and find an extra yard.”

Retweeted FootballLeaguePaper (@theleaguepaper): Our reporter gave referee James Linington a rating of 3/10 for @thegillsfc's clash with burtonalbionfc. Our lowest rating of the season. My comment regarding this is that if my memory serves me correctly it is a local reporter that sends the copy into the paper and so it is no toooo surprising...
