If people actually remember the job that Nigel was asked to do at Derby by Sam Rush, it was to reduce the wage bill to manageable levels in a loss making organisation. That was fine until he managed to get some investment in, Nigel was out and Steve McClaren was given money to fling around. That the goal posts moved was hardly Nigel's fault.

He'll also deal with any dissenting voices from the terraces (which he may or may not get) with the contempt they deserve. I remember a section of our fans at St. Albans (I think) singing a crude song about Crosby, and Cloughie making a point of shouting back "AND YOU!". Never one to shrink away from confronting negs in the crowd our Nigel!

Sounds like a good accountant.

Whether people think it is the right appointment or not, it is done and everyone needs to get behind the club as we always do and look forward to the next chapter in our clubs history.
Who cares what Derby fans say or what Blades fans say, they are 2 massive clubs that think they should be in the top flight and the fact Clough was not the man to take them to the Premier League will be the reason so many of them are bitter toward him.

Blades fans already seem to want Adkins out. It does not register, that keep changing managers usually gets you nowhere They are so sure of where they think they belong, they expect it to happen in a single season. They don't give their own club a chance. Derby on the other hand, appeared to decide that when NC had put the wages bill in a sensible state, but still maintaining their league status, they needed a new person to then progress. Both treated NC very badly, and I think deep down they know it.

Just in from work, I was working at a house where I've worked before and both are Albion season ticket holders and sponsors, the door opened this morning and after a hearty good morning they both agreed with me on what a great piece of business Ben had done bringing Nigel back home. Welcome home Nigel to our special football club, absolutely delighted you are back with us and I wish you every success for many years to come.

It all feels slightly surreal - Nigel is back. Really...the number of times over the years when I suspect many of us wondered if it could happen one day and here it is.
He seemed to echo discussions on the forum yesterday when asked what the fans could expect. Young uns can ask the old uns seemed to be the gist. It reminded me that we won't have the camera/press friendly JFH anymore, we have that sometimes irascible bloke ready to return fire to stroppy supporters, fiercely protective of his team but who always seemed to find time to respond quickly to any friendly gesture from individual fans.
An honourable man returns to an honourable club. I was happy if avoided relegation this season. That's still my wish.

I think it's in Ben we trust, now in Nigel we trust again. Ten years working together ain't bad for starters and it's common knowledge they both look after the finances of the club very well. What's not to like, just need a few more bums on seats, or folks in stands, winners.

Don't think Gillingham would agree to that.

Never one to shrink away from confronting negs in the crowd our Nigel! There's a coach at Burton now who used to play for the youth team when Nigel was at the club before. He said he was terrifying at times. They had an under 18 match once and one of the defenders had failed to clear the ball well and opposition scored He said Nigel came out of the stand stormed onto the pitch and grabbed the ball before they could take the kick off and drop kicked it over one of the stands then shouted "That's how you fxxxin clear a ball" And walked back into the stand
