Bit of controversy at 87mins, apparently McGuire stomped on Weir, Weir went to complain to McGuire and ended up getting sent off? Bell on for McFadzean 87mins, 7mins added time!

Sounds as though the ref completely lost the plot in the last 20 mins.

Great result. Between us I think we called the team right as well with Harness just getting the sub role.
Must have been tense at the end.
With the squad we have the sending off shouldn't impact too much.
Portsmouth lost at home to newport which is encouraging.
PS how on earth are we ahead of anyone on goal difference???
Lol

Fresh back from the game and absolutely over the moon with that result.
Winning matches like that is what sets potential champions apart from the rest, as Mansfield are at best a clogging one trick pony and at worst a bunch of thoroughly dirty you know whats!
The referee was clearly influenced by the accusations from Mansfield fans that he was biased against them, as he gave them most of the decisions today and as for Robbie's sending off...well farcical doesn't come close!
So to come home with all three points is fantastic and I really do hope the red card decision gets overturned as it was totally and utterly wrong.
The support today was truly superb and I'm not sure I've witnessed better for years. It was a real pleasure to be there as a Brewers fan, both for the superb team effort of the players and the unbridled joy in the away stand...just fantastic!
Oh and by the way...WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who played well and how did we play overall?
Was it pretty or the battle that I expected it might be?

Spireite in peace
Well done Burton on beating our little neighbors. Wanted you to go up in playoffs last year tbh. Always had a nice day out at the games in Burton. Keep going and hope we will see you in league 1 next season ( If we don't get promoted to championship :-) )

Very much what you would have expected observer...quite a dour workmanlike game but one that we would probably have lost last year.
Thankfully we were the better footballing side and a couple of moments of class, set us apart from a Mansfield team which was very poor but difficult to break down.
MacDonald opened the scoring with a snap shot from the edge of the box, which took a deflection off a defender, to put us one up at the break.
We absorbed a lot of pressure before a quick break away saw a three pronged attack bearing down on the Mansfield goal. Quick clever passes between McGurk, Weir and MacFadzean culminated in a tap in at the far post for MacFadzean, to make it 2-0.
Unfortunately we gave away a soft headed goal for Read (the only way Mansfield would ever score) which gave us a nervous last 15 minutes.
Well it should have been 15 minutes but due to some ridiculous Mansfield challenges and a great deal of time wasted, during which Weir was wrongly sent off, we somehow got 7 minutes of time added on?
The referee had been heavily criticised before the game, by Mansfield supporters, who claim he has a downer on them and gives them nothing. That was completely reversed today as he gave them every single decision they asked for and following the hacking down of Marcus Harness and Weir within seconds of each other, he sent Robbie off for allegedly retaliating but did nothing about the challenges on the two Brewers players!
McLaughlin was booked for asking why another Mansfield player wasn't booked for a blatant foul on the keeper and in the latter stages both he and one of the defenders got flattened and again no action taken. I couldn't see which defender it was but it certainly looked like a punch aimed in the direction of his head?
The full starting line ups are at the start of this thread and all who played put in a full shift again today and should be very proud of themselves.
These are the performances that win leagues and I doubt we'll play a dirtier side than Mansfield all season?
