The game as entertainment was awful. There was very little class throughout. Mansfield in my opinion are a poor side, with little to offer beyond physical presence, and mostly long balls. We tended to do the same as is often the case, but the moves for the two goals were real quality. The first goal was a very fortunate finish but the second was a superb counter attack whic left them exposed, and was well finished. McDonald was unlucky to hit the bar following a superb run and shot. Generally though a poor game with a good result. GR seems to know how to win awkward games. The referee had a nightmare in the second half, and we would agree with Mansfield on that, especially in the sending off of Weir when the player who stamped on him was totally unpunished.

Have to admit the game was exactly what I expected, that is apart from referee Darren Drysdale. Mansfield fans have slated him all week for being anti-Stags. Well he must have read all those comments and he tried to even up the score at our cost. Totally inept and lost control which evidently is his trademark. Regarding the match we didn't play well but as has already been said these are the type of games you need to win if you want promotion. Personally I thought we played to their strengths for most of the game but on the occasions we did get the ball on the floor we looked much better. Can't fault the spirit and application. Macdonald's shot took a wicked deflection for the opener just on half time but the 2nd was a quality move between I think it was McGurk and Macfazdean and a brave contribution by Robbie Weir leaving Macfazdean an easy tap in. I couldn't work out what happened for their goal from where I was but I think it was Rhead who scored the header, McLaughlin looked at fault but i'm not sure. Credit to Alex Macdonald who again worked his socks off and was very unlucky with a thunderous drive that beat the keeper all ends up but cannoned off the bar. The rest of the match was a farce commanded by Darren Drysdale ! Lastly a mention to the supporters who turned up in good numbers and backed the side throughout, I don't think they stopped singing all second half and really made themselves heard. It was obviously appreciated by the players who came over to applaud them at the end.

I expected a tough game today but I was shocked that a few of the Mansfield players were out there trying to injure there opponents. They were not sent out on the pitch to play football they were sent out to rough us up, now there is nothing wrong with that, but they went to far, way to far. I agree with something mentioned earlier in the post, last season we would have folded. Let's look forward to there visit to the Pirelli.

Unfortunately will not be looking forward to the return fixture. That was the third dire game we have seen between the two sides - at least we managed to score today. Met a few livid Mansfield fans afterwards moaning about our diving, play acting players too. Some interesting views and not too complimentary about our manager either!

Did you kick their guide dogs or something Woody? Mind you...it's got a touch of "six finger" country about it up there you know! They know deep down that they've got a dire team playing a very poor brand of football and I expect that hurts them a bit, as they'll be fighting relegation all season long. No need for their dirty tactics though...that's just dangerous and potentially career ending when it goes too far. Remember their "friendly" game against Ilkeston a couple of years ago?

Thanks for the detailed feedback guys
Even in crap games just a couple of quality moves are worth their weight in gold and can be the difference between winning and losing
Winning ugly is a great sports book written by a tennis player (now coach) called Brad Gilbert
We are clearly good at that and I think at this level you need to be

Look how close we came last year as well. Will we ever have a better chance to get promoted ? I doubt it. Didn't mean to reply to my own post!! Lol

Mansfield have lots of problems. I hope they sort them out. Burton were ace but we can't retaliate like that. Robbie's red card was a clear one in my opinion. They should have had one too but the ref was not really doing his job as well as he should have. We won and we deserved to win. Brewers fans were superb. Ugly football is where it is at at League 2 level and we coped great. Top of the table is a joy to behold. Won't get many of them in a lifetime so I'm chuffed. Rowett's tactics were spot on.

Its worth having a listen to Stags manager Paul Cox post match interview, I have no idea what game he was talking about but it couldn't possibly be the game I watched. A long hard winter of discontent for them I think !

Adam Murray (their assistant manager) and I believe he played today?
He coaches our 13s or 14s midweek at the academy. I've watched him - he gets a lot of respect from them because he's been there, seen it and done it.
Mansfield don't have an academy setup for under 16s so I think he's passing his badges and getting experience with us.
He used to coach an agegroup for us two seasons ago before he took the assistant manager job. Then took a year off last season. But it's good for the academy lads to have someone like him to learn from.
He can obviously play a bit in amongst them as well
Think when he was younger he had a really bright future as a player but made a few mistakes. Maybe he can teach our young lads what to avoid and how to maximise their potential etc

He had a loan spell with us early in his career but didn't want to sign for us when he was released if I remember correctly.

I've just read up on him and he was established in premier league with derby but ended up in the Priory with alcohol problems. It said he joined us from Notts county on a week to week contract and played two matches in a week then went back to Notts County ?
That might have been when he still had issues as he went to about 5 clubs in a year. 2003.
By then he's already had his premier league spell and bright future

The boy Clucas is half-decent....I can see why the Spireites were/are interested in him.....
I thought the big lump Rhead did what he is supposed to do well enough too - was surprised to read that at 30, he's served his time at Kidsgrove, Nantwich, Congleton, Eastwood, Corby and JCB - only joined the Stags in 2012 - far from a prolific goal-scorer but a handful for Sharpsie & co (or should I say bucketful?)

I read that Clucas only played because Chesterfield have dropped their interest in him.
Clucas has been linked with Forest several times in the past.
Mansfield have got some kind of cash issues at the moment and the manager saying they have to bring kids in and free transfers.
Maybe there is an outside chance we could get Clucas ourselves??

Never a sending off. Joke of a decision.
In other news, having watched the football league show, I hope the cameras at Portsmouth are more than 3ft off the ground for our game next week!

Agree with the red card Oxford...they should have had at least two for their disgusting tackles and the punch late on. Don't worry about camera angles at Portsmouth mate...we're at home next weekend.

Having watched the Weir incident several times now I would say that he was ill advised approaching Maguire but when he did he didn't actually do anything, it was just a close eyeball to eyeball. Now if the referee had control of the game Maguire would have already been on his way for an early bath for a vicious stamping on Robbie Weir. Darren Drysdale must have seen Maguire stamp on Weir as it was right in front of him. Mansfield fans have all commented that Maguire is a thug and should have been sent off.

Robbies sending off was deserved. After rolling around with a serious injury and peeking at the ref for a decision he got up and walked spritely toward McGuire and clashed heads. You could argue that McGuire didn't back down to the challenge but Robbie was the instigator and the referee was blowing his whistle at him (STOP) for the whole time (4-5 secs) as he walked towards McGuire. Correct decision.
As for the previous stamp/stomp I think McGuire should of gone but I also think the referees view of the incident was blocked by a man mountain, Rhead was it? i don't think the challenge on Harness was a bad one, both going for the ball Harness got it and was caught, happens all the time.
As for their goal, in the postgame interview Gaz said "it was a very poor goal to concede, and I'll be having a word with our 2 centrebacks".
But it sounded a pretty boring game, hoof ball, except for our 2 wingers on the counterattack. Can't believe some people refer to Macca and Callum as "ok squad players".
