If you watch the Weir incident carefully Drysdale has his red card in his hand ready to dismiss McGuire but then doesn't. Try as I have, I cannot find this...what time is it on the video? Re: Robbies red - any head-to-head 'contact' is off, (headbutt is terminology used to define why the player was sent off) there doesn't have to be power or excessive force used (i think fifa perhaps deemed this necessary to avoid what potentially 'could' happen?). 4-5 secs walking toward a player while the ref is blowing for you to stop is aggressive. McGuires arms are down, Robbie raises his to chest level and there is head contact....in these cases where a team is winding you up, esp. late in the game you have to suck it up and finish the game off. In the keeper incident at 97mins Phil was silly to get involved after the foul on McLaughlin was called. Both players should have been booked but the game was virtually over so well done referee.

Peacock i'm not splitting hairs with you, you can try and defend Darren Drysdale with your referees cap on if you like but you will never convince football fans the man is fit to control a football match, after all he's done it again hasn't he ? got all the post match talk about him and not the game itself. Robbie was stupid to do what he did and left himself open to the red card, he didn't head butt McGuire. If Drysdale had of acted correctly and sent McGuire off straight away then as I've said before the 2nd incident most likely would not have happened. Well done the referee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His incompetence was the reason for the late flare ups because he lost control of the game ! 7 minutes of added time were announced but we only played 5 minutes as Drysdale blew up early as he had lost control, one of the few sensible decisions he made all afternoon. I don't usually have a go at a referee as they have and extremely difficult and thankless job out there, but in this referee's case I make the exception, his track record speaks for itself not just last Saturdays showing. Anyway it was a good three points against a physical side and showed we havn't lost the quality of winning ugly which you need to have a successful season.

but surely we can only discuss Sat.s game, not the past? I wasn't at the game but heard the announcers saying "Robbie did nothing",?? "Riley threw Edwards to the ground, with what looked like a punch"?? Then you and other people make things up like "Drysdale has his red card in his hand ready to dismiss McGuire but then doesn't" and " we only played 5 minutes as Drysdale blew up early" BBC Live Text Commentary Full Time Match ends, Mansfield Town 1, Burton Albion 2. 90:00 +8:04 Full time 90:00 +6:12 Foul by Martin Riley (Mansfield Town). I agree the talk should be about the game, but read the comments above.. Heres a comment about the game "what was Sharps doing on their goal?" ======= I'll try and get this edit in b4..... Please understand I am not defending the referee, I am simply trying to put things in a neutral view. he made some mistakes like all refs do. I think he also made some good, correct decisions (like not showing cards at 97mins). But Robbie make a mistake, McLaughlin made mistakes, the D made mistakes. Macca played vg, Callums goal was a great counter-attack goal, thats what we should be talking about.

Peacock I don't make things up, I set my watch when they announced 7 minutes and we only played 5. You can clearly see the red card in Drysdale's hand, I and others are not imagining it. Drysdale has a reputation as an awful referee, judging him on that performance it is well justified, some Mansfield fans stayed away on Saturday purely due to the fact he was referee You were not there. Defend him if you want but I know what I saw. I have not made any comments on the McLaughlin, Edwards, Riley incidents. The central defence and keeper were at fault for their goal by the way not just Ian Sharps ! I repeat I don't make things up and suggest you take that back if you want to have intelligent discourse with me on here in future.

I'm just trying to get clear and straight info on the game, as in every game. I don't see the red card in hand incident on any video, and the BBC and radio commentary said over 8 minutes were played??? As, I wasn't there I cannot say you are wrong. My comment of making things up can be misconstrued, as you do hear some funny things being said. It wasn't meant as a personal attack and sorry if you were offended.

Apology accepted peacock. I don't know if you've ever been involved in a story that's then made the press but I know from experience the media alter the context of things if you get my drift. The important thing is we got the 3 points, have today signed Stuart Beavon on a 3 year deal, hopefully have another player coming in today, are top of the league and unbeaten this season and there is still plenty of room for improvement. A great time to be a supporter of our club.

Hilarious, you also said the linesman's view was completely obscured (of the stamp) and it clearly wasn't. Sharps was nowhere near the header for their goal. CS went for the header, got beat for it and McLaughlin was in no mans land.

Just a little something that came to me while at the match on Saturday and strengthened by the signing of Beavon today. Sitting at the match and having had a chat with Stags fans prior to the game I got the distinct impression that we are 2 clubs heading in different directions, forgive the pun but the Stags are stagnating, no cash, a manager producing a brand of football dire to watch, and gates beginning to fall due to discontent with how the club is run. We on the other hand are continuing to progress built on a sound foundation thanks to how the chairman Ben Robinson runs the club, we have a talented young tactically astute manager and backroom team and probably the best squad we have ever had. The only area we have to address is attendance wise but I feel the club are beginning to listen to ideas on that and from comments made to me I get the impression that people in Burton are beginning to take notice. My colleague at work has started to come on a regular basis and my son and his partner are coming to the Portsmouth game on Sunday. Maybe we can all do a little bit like that, its not easy I know but if just half of us regulars enticed one person to attend with us it would increase our attendances no end.

According to Adam Drew on FB from the Burton Mail, we are appealing the red card for Weir.

comment about the game "what was Sharps doing on their goal?" The central defence and keeper were at fault for their goal by the way not just Ian Sharps ! Yes, thats why in the post game radio interview gaz said "I'll be having a word with the centrebacks". But everyone broke from the wall to chase the play, except Sharps he just turned around and watched as the goal was scored. I wonder who Phil, Shane, John and Callum are looking at? the ref??

View Attachment'His legs are going', they were going all last season (player of the year). There was a 'wall' of one, McGurk. The ball went over Sharps head, their guy got behind him too easily, CS and Mous should have dealt with it, they didn't, the goalkeeper should not have come, he did. You must be waiting for him to make a mistake every game to justify your bizarre view of his game. A very sad way to watch a game. Why not watch and appreciate the good things he does and comment on them for a change?

I was at the match, but from where we were sitting I couldn't be sure what went on in the last few minutes. But from playbacks on video, if Robbie Weir hadn't seen a red mist he would have seen out the match, he gave the referee the excuse he was looking for and off he went. I wouldn't single out one of the Mansfield players for a red card, there were various thugs in the home team who should have been disciplined by the officials and the home manager should be sited for encouraging his players to break the rules of football and attempt to injure visiting players. I bet Clucas breathed a gasp of fresh air when Chesterfield eventually came in for him.

Red card has been overturned. The appeal was successful.
As I said, never in a million years a sending off.

I know Mansfield fans were concerned the McGuire could still face disciplinary action regarding his stamp on Weir and a punch allegedly thrown by Martin Riley but having not had a good view of the latter incident I am not able to pass judgement.

Robbies sending off was deserved. After rolling around with a serious injury and peeking at the ref for a decision he got up and walked spritely toward McGuire and clashed heads. You could argue that McGuire didn't back down to the challenge but Robbie was the instigator and the referee was blowing his whistle at him (STOP) for the whole time (4-5 secs) as he walked towards McGuire. Correct decision. As for the previous stamp/stomp I think McGuire should of gone but I also think the referees view of the incident was blocked by a man mountain, Rhead was it? i don't think the challenge on Harness was a bad one, both going for the ball Harness got it and was caught, happens all the time. As for their goal, in the postgame interview Gaz said "it was a very poor goal to concede, and I'll be having a word with our 2 centrebacks". But it sounded a pretty boring game, hoof ball, except for our 2 wingers on the counterattack. Can't believe some people refer to Macca and Callum as "ok squad players". I find it hard to take this, or any other of your blinkered posts seriously . Do you post on here for a laugh ?

I though it was unjust, I still say Mcguires head went towards Weirs rather than the other way. Doubt anything else with happen over this incident, anyways good outcome.

Robbies actions, from getting up onwards, were a lot worse than Ravenhills on Belly 2 years ago and that wasn't rescinded (mind you Belly went to ground). I can only think that it was because the ref and AR missed the stomp that the panel decided his reaction wasn't "that bad". I believe on most days this appeal would have failed. But lucky for us it didn't!

As said above, pleasantly surprised by this! Lots on here and FB said it was a definite red card, and one even said it wouldn't even be appealed . But good news for us. I don't "think" the FA would be able to rule on the stomp because the ref dealt with the play on the pitch by calling a foul. They would probably have to say the foul was for another incident and that they missed the "stomp", but I don't know if that ever happens. As for the Riley and Edwards incident I don't see a punch, ref called the foul on McLaughlin then Edwards challenged first with hands up on Riley, Riley retaliated with hands up on Edwards who flopped. The FA wouldn't impose sanctions on Riley and not Edwards and if they did it would be 2 reds which would be daft. It was handbags. Edit: am I in trouble for editing this post? PS: Google servers are being bashed right now!!

Just been through all the posts on here (relatively quickly) and I cannot find one person who says it is a definite red card (apart from yourself). The one person that I can find that said he didn't think it would be appealed is me, and I said I didn't think the red card was deserved. On FB I can only find one comment that gets close to saying they felt it was a red card, there are a few people who have a go at Weir for reacting (me included) but apart from one comment. You really do play fast and loose to try to justify your own view.
