Ian, I didn't know there was a criteria for age, I just thought it was as simple as if they were on a contract the club could demand a fee, and if they were out of contract they could leave without a feeππ You are correct. If they are under contract then the club can demand a fee irrespective of age. If the player is out of contract but under the age of 24 then the club can demand a fee/compensation providing they have offered terms at least as good as the previous terms they were on. If they are over 24, and out of contract, they can move with no fee to be paid and they are free agents. Eg. Terry Taylor was out of contract in the summer so we would have got some sort of fee due to his age. Deji was out of contract too and had he signed elsewhere we would have got nothing despite offering new terms. Thanks for that explanation mateπ

Probably yes for the numbers unless Martin has something else up his sleeve. 3 strikers have left on loan and 2 in who are un tried plus Mason Bennett. The 2 youngsters might turn out to be the next Daniel Jebbison's and certainly Hugill looks promising so far. Lubala has done ok. Not that good at holding up the ball but can finish. I would like to see us sign a Sam Winnall type who can come on and nick a goal plus help the younger players with their game.

I do think we need more experience and guile/creativity but I think we need it in the midfield.
We have a poor goal scoring record and to score goals you have to create chances. I'm hoping under the new manager we will play a little more through the lines and look to get on the ball in the midfield.
I'm a little surprised he hasn't strengthened here as a priority but I guess there will still be movement right up until the end of the month.

We have experience and guile up front with Bennett, trouble is he's just not played enough games to show it. For whatever reason that is, guessing injury and fitness in part, I'd want Lubala to stay over him.

I do wonder whether Bennett might go to Mansfield on loan before the transfer window closes.Cloughie was here last Saturday and Bennett's best football of his career came while he was at Derby when Cloughie was their manager.

He's likely on a big wage and Mansfield have a big budget so I'd be all for it. He's done nothing at all this season, similar to Stockton, Gordon and Walker and all those three are now elsewhere.

Now Lubala has gone, are we a striker short going forward?
I still think another central midfielder is preferable before the window closes, but now I think another face up top could come in useful. Hugill and Adebomi are obviously both very young/inexperienced and learning as they go on, and if injuries arise we'd be very light on numbers.
Maybe a slightly older head to come in up top? Obviously would have to be a permanent transfer or free agent given our loan numbers.

Hugill and Ola will stay central but depending on the injury to Leko too we may need another wide man. Bennett, Leko and Carayol I'd say are our only wide men at the minute?

Bennett is improving. I do think with more time on the pitch cannot be bad for Bennett. We need his experience, looking forward to more of the same from him. Sometimes it's hard to please people, when a player gives 100% 2 nil up as in the case last home game you put on fresh legs surely.

I hope the bit about Bennett playing his best football under Cloughie is not quite right, given that NC left Derby over 10 years ago. A quick look on Wiki suggests that Bennett had been involved in about 20 games and scored one goal when NC departed. I'd understood that Bennett did quite well at Millwall, but they eventually decided that his physical frailties meant that they decided to let him go. Let's hope that there really is a player in there, and that MP can find the key to getting him to perform consistently well.
