3rd place game, big decision from the ref in the first 2 mins, he gave penno and yellow. 0/2, should have been free kick and red... Both points are irrelevant because the little Canadian, deGuzman, was offside by half a boot, oops that was the second goal... Ha ha, another quality edit, you can if you wish, just agree and say the ref got those decisions wrong...

Penalty, red card....but only after watching it eight times in slow motion replay with a zoomed-in section showing Silvas hand on Robbens arm as Robbens foot was on the line. Penalty was the correct decision, so 1/2

P.S. Robben's foot didn't actually touch the line.

His foot is in the air, it doesn't touch the line.
Contact was 8 feet outside the area, where do penalise? I always believed it was where the foul was committed?

I already explained that to you during the Prem season with the Cala foul on Wickham that ended in a red card. Foul started outside and continued inside the box, penalty. This one is a pen too, and a red card. just admit your wrong and move on.

The Wickham one was an ongoing advantage though wasn't it?

By eck lads, it was a 3rd/4th play off match ! I can see what both of you are saying and I think from a referee's point technically(whatever that means) it was a penalty. I would have given one anyway. I agree with both of you and no matter what the match was Silva should have been sent off. I suppose we could say the referee came down on the side of the attacking team, which I am always glad to see. The decision to book Oscar for diving was an interesting one, at first I thought it was a penalty but on closer look Oscar definitely tried to leave his trailing leg in to make it look worse. Ironically I think if he hadn't he may have got the penalty. There was obviously a fair amount of contact as Daley Blint had to leave the field injured. Obviously if it had been Adam McGurk or Billy Kee bought down like that it would have been a stonewall penalty for the Albion !!! The rest of the world view diving differently to us, they think we are naïve, well we probably are, we see it as cheating and they see it as professionalism. Personally I suppose i'm a typical Englishmen and see diving as cheating and I would make it an automatic red card offence. I don't see that ever happening though !

It is a genuine question for me, significant contact made at least 8ft outside the area, the contact continued but for me that is a free kick. Not seen any other referee, beyond Peacock justify it being a penalty. I'm not trying to make a point at all, but just asking the question. As for Blind, a cast iron peno for me. If Oscar had hurdled that challenge it would still have been a pan for me. Interesting that on neither occasion did the ref appear to take a moment to think or receive advice from the Lino. Certainly on the first decision he was in a good position to see where the foul was.

Just shows funky how difficult it is for the referee to get the decision right ! If that had been an Albion player in an Albion game both ways round, as the attacking team or defending team, how would we have seen it ? Just joking, its a thankless task being a ref.

FIFA's instructions to referees: "if a foul starts outside the box and and continues inside the box, the referee must award a penalty kick. End of, nothing to do with advantage. Funky just cannot be wrong...

Funky just cannot be wrong... Of course I can be wrong, I often am. When I am I acknowledge it. Do you mean this from FIFAs 'Interpretation of the laws of the game 2014… "If a defender starts HOLDING an attacker outside the penalty area and continues holding him inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick."? I was not aware of that, in that case I think the ref still got it technically wrong as I think Silva had let go before Robben entered the penalty area. However, it was so close, too close, so I am with terraceman on this that the benefit should be given to the attacker. So technically 0/2, morally 1/2 and well done ref. So we're both right and both wrong. PS, I thought the final was officiated well and I agree the better team won. PPS I have photoshopped this picture.

"I think Silva had let go before Robben entered the penalty area." That would be an incorrect thought. Take your photo at the next frame, Silvas hand has moved down to Robbens hand and Robbens foot is on the line.
If a defending player was outside the box and dove into the box, then handled the ball before he made any contact with the ground what would the decision be? Of course, it's a pen. Same as Robbens foot in my photo, he's in the box in that one but then his foot was grounded when Silva had hold of his wrist.

Well I predicted Germany before the tournament and overall I think the best team in the competition won. That's not saying the Germans were great in every game, they struggled against Ghana and also against Algeria but as usual even when they're not performing to expectations they manage to ground out a result. I enjoyed the World cup in general and think Neuer was probably my player of the tournament, some great moments from many teams and my best memories will be of the Costa Ricans, who performed much better than anyone could have imagined. England, well a work in progress I think, we are still very naïve but have some useful young players coming through who we need to develop at international level. Our senior players such as Gerrard and Rooney were woeful in my opinion and time to jettison them plus a few others who are not good enough at this level, that would include Joe dandruff Hart who I don't rate at all. Now its on to the more important stuff of our beloved BAFC in league 2 for the new season. Come on you BREWERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have really enjoyed all the banter particularly from funky and peacock, cheers lads ! Have enjoyed all the banter particularly from funky and peacock, cheers lads
