In reply peacock I don't think they need one ! I would argue that the German league is better than the Premier league and more thought is given to the actual paying supporters. I agree that some decent young players are coming through at present and with what you say about the 2010 squad. Whether woy gets the chance to develop them as a squad, tactically etc we will have to wait and see. I don't think I need to say what I think of the greedy Premier league as its blatantly obvious. I think its also obvious that I have little faith in the people who run football in this country. Buts let hope a strategy is in place to develop our own players into the 1st teams in the Premier league and the national squad.

I think the main difference between the Premier League and the Bundesliga is the ownership structure which is not based on one linked to corporate gain but more of a membership/mutual approach that seeks to be inclusive of the fans (as they are the owners). Wages are a much lower proportion of the overall running costs, yet German clubs still often run at a profit whilst Premier League teams seems to struggle. Unfortunately ownership structure like those in Germany would be virtually impossible to impose in the UK, the horse has bolted. There are only 36 clubs in the top two divisions in Germany as well rather than the 44 in England.
GLT would not make a huge difference either way,in the top German league. It was rejected in March (the top two divisions voted) but the top league was split equally over the issue, the second tier voted more emphatically against it. Bayern has called again for it to be introduced in the top league and there will be a re-vote in December. I sense it is more about prioritisation that the pure cost. And most of the German clubs (mainly the tier 2 ones) did cite that they would prefer to spend the money on youth development grassroots etc ( I repeat though, the Premier League equivalent were split 50/50 on the issue).
I was surprised that despite the exit at the earliest opportunity in Brazil there has not been more discussion about the proposals launched by Greg Dyke about B teams etc. Flawed as some of the proposals may have been, it should have generated a more considered debate than it appears to. Something needs to be done.

I agree with everything there funky except the proposed B-league. If they want a reserve league fine, have one that doesn't interfere with the current league structure. Like the old central league or Football Combination. Its not the rest of English footballs problem that the top clubs have so many players signed on that they are struggling to give them competitive game time. I've been through the rest of it before and so on and so on. I would also add what does Geg Dyke know about football ?

I agree, not in favour of the B team idea either but the discussion seemed to focus around that and not on some of the other suggestions. And in the end we may need to be bold. The problem is the Premier League have the cash. To also be fair, the people on the Commission that Dyke set up had a heck of a lot of experience and knowledge.

If by "I don't think they need one!" you mean a striker, then that was kind of my point...I wonder if a strategic coaching decision was made at some point to develop midfielders while the rest of the big countries were focusing on developing strikers....because their midfield is awesome. I don't know but I would think most Bundesliga teams are German owned, while half the Prem is foreign owner by huge corporations or moguls. One of these would care about their country/club/supporters. I really hope 'woy' gets to and wants to stay at the helm for the next WC at least.

funky and peacock, its become a mini-series between ourselves, really good to get a sensible exchange of thoughts and ideas firstly regarding the World cup and then regarding football at the top levels in this country etc. In reply to the above peacock, see what you are saying about the midfielders in Germany and perhaps that is the case., easily being able then to move players to defenders also. I would think most German clubs are German owned with community ties and when I have been there I would say there is much more focus in that direction. I hope woy stays for the long haul but knowing how the gutter press react, if we have some dodgy results in the Euro qualifying campaign I can see them building pressure for him to go. I know funky has already commented but peacock have you seen the articles from observer on the BAFC Academy ? Well worth a read and very encouraging.

well, back to the WC...two boring games for the semis (thought the referee teams were very good in both though )...hopefully the 3rd place and Final will bring the tournament back to the excellence we have seen earlier on...

I thought last nights game was a tactical battle with both teams more concerned about avoiding defeat rather than winning. Still an interesting game but not as enjoyable as the Brazil v Germany game. I would have to agree with you that the referee teams for both matches were very good and if i'm honest it was a pleasant surprise as I had expected FIFA to fuddle it up. It will be interesting to see how the Brazil team handle the 3rd/4th place match and i'm looking forward to the final. Logic would say Germany are favourites but you never know in football. Personally I hope they do win because they are in my opinion the best side in the tournament.

The commentators never mentioned, the pundits never mentioned it after the match...none of them had a clue that it was inches from being a goal

And you decision, if it had of gone over the line?
(I assume goal?)
The 'keeper would have looked a chump then...

3rd place game, big decision from the ref in the first 2 mins, he gave penno and yellow. 0/2, should have been free kick and red...

Goal, just amazed that no one picked up on it. Keith Hackett reckons that it would not have been a goal because once it has been saved and it goes forwards, the spin back does not count… Not heard that before. Another twitter poster has said it actually hit Vlaar on the shoulder again anyways...
