I personally couldn't believe it when Rowett got the job. I had to wonder if it was a show of faith or just a lack of ambition - or even a question of the board keeping their hands in their pockets. Look at the clubs to have gone up over the last couple of years, you need to spend out to go up. So naturally you also need to spend to stay up. It's not too early to question the results - take the cup run out and it's not a pretty picture. I'd give him until the FA Cup first round - if league performances haven't improved by then it's probably not going to change. If you leave it too late then it could be a lost cause. I was a bit surprised and not impressed when Gaz got the job, but I have been very impressed with all the players he has bought in, and the way they have played, and I am happy to say I was wrong! When you say if the performances haven't improved, I can only assume you don't actually attend the games? I have watched every single game this season, home and away, and have yet to see a game where I didn't think the players had played well.

When you say if the performances haven't improved I didn't say the performacnes hadn't improved. But they need to, it's not good enough yet. Big difference.

Not sure if you recall the very first Football League Show with Manish Bhasin in August 2009. It was BAFC's first weekend in League footy and they were a focal point of the show. An economics professor from Nottingham Uni (I'm pretty sure I have that right) was allowed to study the Albions books from the previous number of years and give his educated opinion. To sum up his report he said, BAFC is a prime example of how a football club should be run! Well duh, our owner is an accountant!

What is classed as good enough? We've only just beat Rochdale after a solid display. We'd beaten AFC Wimbledon 6-2 (yes I know that result was still bizarrely greeted with doom and gloom in our first home game of the season), and we did brilliantly to knock Sheffield United and Leicester out of the cups in their own backyards.......ah yes, that just infuriated a certain minority, again bizarrely. These cup runs are something so many fans and clubs revel in. The euphoria from that Leicester win was especially amazing. When everyone just went to Leicester just to enjoy the experience not realistically expecting to win. It has been a tough start to the season in what is again a tough league with many good teams. And this is a team with a fair few new signings who will still be gelling as well. And these new signings have improved the squad, I don't care if anyone tries to claim they are lazy or something. I do often scratch my head at what the expectations of our fans for each season actually are. Especially when Burton Albion being a Football League club was beyond everyone's wildest dreams. Are we expecting nothing less than automatic promotion or something? You'd think so from reading some people's posts on this forum. It's as if we aren't anywhere near meeting expectations and we're failing. We used to be playing teams like Northwich Victoria, Stafford Rangers, Grays Athletic, St Albans City and Weymouth as a part time non league team. Those teams mentioned are now playing 3 leagues below us at Evostik Premier level, apart from Northwich who are 4 below us and in Gresley's league this season. While they've been going down the leagues, we've gone up to the Football League, gone full time, and playing around in the same playground as the other Football League teams we never thought we'd share a league with . Oh, and constructive replies would be lovely. Rather than effectively saying in 1 line "yeah, but we're still rubbish" in response to all this ;D

Well duh, our owner is an accountant! Ben is a business man. Nearly all owners of football clubs are businessmen, but they lose all business commonsense once they own a football club. They spend money they haven't got, in the hope of success bringing money in, or they spend to satisfy huge egos. That is where our club is different. This club only spends what it can afford, so we can only progress very steadily. That is the great thing about us. It's a very simple message, you either are happy to accept or if not, you will always be disappointed. Nothing about this club is "cheap" as some think. It is prudent, and I and most other supporters are pleased about that.

So he is, and the relevance of the way we are run will only become more and more obvious in the years to come, as clubs not run with such sense will fall by the wayside...

I bet THEY wish they'd had a few years of mid-table obscurity in the Conference, then a few inconsistent seasons in the Football League.

Agreed Porky. We look devoid of ideas today and the new signings are crap. Zola can't control a ball to save his life and Maghoma's shooting was atrocious. As for that new goalkeeper? Embarrassing. I thought they might score at the end - we were very lucky to get a flukey third clean sheet in a row.
Rowett out.

Not convinced. One result (two to be fair) does not a good manager make.
It was a decent performance though, and the sort I'd asked for. I did say to give him until the FA Cup, after all. If I just straight wanted him out I'd have not given him that get out.

Not convinced. One result (two to be fair) does not a good manager make. quote] Ah right, lets see then, which one result, or 2 to be fair, do you refer to? the win against AFC Wimbledon where we scored 6 goals? maybe the win at to Rochdale where we kept a clean sheet? or perhaps the games where we knocked Sheffield Utd and Leicester city out of the cup on their own ground? maybe the game at Coventry where we were the better team and lost on pens by the odd one in 22 kicks? or maybe even yesterday where we scored 4 fantastic goals and again kept a clean sheet? just wondering like!!!

I'm not counting cup results, I've said that before - more factors there than management. I didn't think the Rochdale performance was a result of super tactics. Far more factors at play than results or individual performances.

Sir Alex Ferguson must be a rubbish manager really. He's just got a quality team to play with to win him games. That's all.
Seriously, when you have a thrilling result like yesterday. And we've had back to back wins, which has been a rarity in itself the previous 2 seasons. Surely the manager deserves even an incy wincy little bit of credit? To absolutely dismantle Oxford the way we did was superb.
Hopefully we can build on this and get a good result against York on Wednesday night. And maybe even get 3 wins in a row for the first time in a long time.

Guys, having a board like this is all about diversity of opinions. It is actually good to see Rowett Owett joining the board and I really do feel we should be a little tolerant and respect other people's views. It would be ever so boring if we all thought exactly the same, so why not live and let live a bit?
I do wish we were able to have more diverse opinions and views on here sometimes and it is a shame that many of the old posters such as El Diablo/Pirelli Popsider/Michael V, TM, Karl, Broomo, Ilson, Colwyn Bay Brewer, Asia Brewer, Ian Hawkins etc etc have not found us and posted yet. We need to continue to spread the word !!

Not counting cup games but giving him until the FA Cup... Fine, shall I just say November then? "Until" is not inclusive of that cup game. Learn English.
