Why play 5 at the back when at home against bottom of the league? We looked like the bottom team tonight. When will Paterson realise Oshilaja is not the right player in that position. In midfield play Harper or Gilligan with Powell / Helm further forward. sinfin hit the nail on the head, different manager same old tactics. Didn't help Mason going off early. We cannot use the pitch as an excuse but have never seen it looking that bad, practically bear in places.

Keggy are you referring to me. I wasn't going to bother. I know I have no education whatsoever and did OK for myself. Been able to retire early I have been very lucky. But this MP is completely brain dead, clueless. In his tiny brain he thinks he's the master tactician. As soon as the team was announced you know exactly what kind of game it was going to be. Booted straight down the middle or banged to the right hand side of the ground. In conclusion Robinson has got to make a big discision, put Paterson in the back ground rest them kness because if I was on the bench I wouldn't want to look at his arse all through the match. Bring back Gary and put him in charge. Robinson next time you inverview someone for a job don't bother.☔😭👍

A game, a performance and a result like that following on from Saturday just leaves you lost for words. We are just a long ball, long throw, Joe Powell long free kick team. We offer nothing else. We don’t threaten, we don’t create and we don’t look like scoring. I don’t think you can blame the players. I think most if not all are giving their best. If you haven’t got the right quality in the right positions then you can do no more. It would be unfair to start criticising MP but I don’t think the January recruitment has addressed the weaknesses in the team and squad left by Maamria. We need 3 results. We’ve just missed two golden opportunities which is worrying to say the least. Good luck to Paul Simpson and Carlisle, good bloke, good player. They played simple decent football, didn't really threaten but got the break.

The issue here is we have replaced Dino with Dino. We needed a new broom - not a different handle.

I cannot get over the fact we got zero points from 2 homes games we realistically should get 4 from. We need to look at the style of play away from home because the 2 games I saw at Bristol and Orient we were a different team. Also stop these long throws they don't work.

5 at the back at home against bottom of the league is criminal. Throw in Powell in defensive midfield, a woefully out of form Oshilaja prancing around like a headless chicken in midfield and untested kids up front, is it any surprise we lost?
There seems to be a complete lack of urgency around the club at the minute, sleepwalking into and through games, as we slip closer and closer to the drop. Why is it only the supporters that seem to notice it?
My advice to MP would be to take down the Dino & Jimmy posters off his bedroom wall, get rid of this five at the back/playing people out of position crap, be your own man and sort this shambles out.

He will have family problems next, no one understands him because of one reason or other. So again in conclusion I'm sorry to say his brain is not wired up correctly. Wife knows about these mental health issues, she has nearly 40 years experience. ☔🤔🤣👍

Next three. Cheltenham away Posh at home Pompey away
Those three define our season I think. Massive games. If we lose all 3 we are doomed I fear. We need to target 3-4 points from these.

If you are retarded please I have the greatest sympathy for you. There is jobs out there so the government say but not football management. There is help out there again I mention my wife because she knows about these things, it's her job. So good luck and hope you find what you are looking for. Remember there is help out there Mr Paterson you never alone. I want make myself clear that I have every sympathy for those people who are effected by mental health, people who are not classed normal. I have and still do suffer from mental health issues it runs in families. 👍

After nearly four seasons of constant struggle it is inevitable that the club will be relegated, you cannot really blame the current manager although replacing the frontline with untried under 23 premier league players did seem strange. Whatever happens the club needs a total rethink from top to bottom, ticket sales, crowd safety, supporter communication, etc, and the playing side things need to change instead of the sludge fest football that’s been delivered in recent years. A supporter told me at the Northampton game that the non league days were more enjoyable simply because the team played football! I can only agree with their thinking, this season the whole match day experience has been terrible, every supporter knows what to expect even before a game kicks off. I can only speak from my own personal experience and I want to appear fair with my observations, but really the chairman and directors and whoever else is in charge, the club has been allowed to sleep walk very slowly in the past years into being eventually relegated. Will the club survive in League One I doubt it,do I want the club to stay up yes of course, but it will be more by the failings of other teams than the Burton Albion team saving themselves.

I would put good money on us being in another relegation fight next season if we go down this season. On the pitch we are a shambles, our best players will leave, you'd 'assume' Paterson would get his P45, although he probably wouldn't..
As Railwaycuttings said, its not just on the pitch we are underperforming and lacking as a club. For some reason after a few seasons of seeming to put things right we've drifted back into a non-league mentality.
I really don't know how the top brass at the club have allowed us to become so poor on the field. I certainly would've liked to have been a fly on the wall during MP's pitch to the chairman, and see if it matches up to what's being served up right now. 'Mr Chairman you know what Dino has done, I'll do exactly the same but I'll do it with a smaller budget'. You've got the job!!

It’s a repeat of everyone seeing the same things Re our starting lineup but the manager. What I couldn’t understand was why no real urgency till the 80th? Minute… ? We should have been pushing far more from the start and then use the changes to keep the pressure on. If Deji and Powell switched then it would make a difference, why can’t he see that when Powell is playing triangle passes in defence… One positive I thought was how good Sweeney is looking now he’s settled in. Carlisle worked their socks off and actually had a pattern of play and they nearly scored another but for a top corner save from Crocombe. We just loft the ball forward in hope of something dropping for us instead of actually playing. Not sure where we’re going to get the points from atm…. 🙃

Have just returned from a weeks holiday in the sun(lucky me) with Mrs Annable minus any kids and left the UK last week with a spring in my step after the two great away wins and was looking forward to following the two home games I was missing on the internet and via the forum. Fortunately the holiday was over halfway through by Saturday's defeat but given the gap to the drop zone hadn't changed materially I accepted it and hoped that the game against rock bottom Carlisle would give us a welcome three points. I left it to just before I boarded the plane on my return before looking at the result and oh my god I wished I hadn't. Massively depressing and we feel that we are right in it again although the other teams aren't all doing that much better.
I can't comment on the last two games but the comments on here mirror what I have been thinking for a while now. We have no style of play and even when we win it's hard going. What I really am struggling to get my head round is how the three managers this season, Dino, Gary Mills and now MP appear to have done absolutely nothing to change the style of play and make us more of an attacking force. The definition of insanity - trying the same things over and over again and expecting different results.
Saturday is absolutely crucial now where you can only hope that we continue with the decent away results in what is a must not lose game. A defeat and we could be in the bottom 4 by Tuesday night after Cheltenham play their game in hand albeit against Charlton so something will have to give. The only positive you can take is that there are still seven teams below us(crickey - how s**t must they be) and the two above us are still in touch. I would bet that if you looked on all those teams fans forums that all of them(maybe not Charlton now) think they are nailed on for relegation. I know Port Vale certainly do.
Despite what everyone thinks we are not nailed on for the drop - the table confirms that - but for sure we have to pull some results from somewhere and there are some massive games coming up against relegation rivals. The spotlight is well and truly on MP even though he has only managed 8 games I think(3W 1D and 4L) and it's not what he is doing it's more what he isn't doing i.e. changing anything! Is he frightened to try something different? I don't know but having sat through Barnsley's season last year where they were within a whisker of promotion he has seen what good looks like and what he is seeing with us most certainly isn't it!
MP talks a good game but i'm afraid that actions speak louder than words and to my untrained eye I haven't seen anything he has done to improve us one little bit. Answers on a postcard to that one.

Somebody posted the other day that Oshilajah must have a clause in his contract that says he must start if fit. He must also have another clause which says must start as an attacking midfielder even if there is someone better in the squad to play there. Fact is, if he didn’t play there, then there is nowhere else for him to go.
I think I mentioned before, more pertinent now, keeping things SIMPLE tactically has got to be a safer option. We are not a very good long ball team and we are not very good at corners, throw ins or free kicks (despite Joe Powell).

I have been a season ticket holder for a number of years - this is my first ever post!! Beyond fed up with the football that I have witnessed especially at home particularly at home over the last 4yrs! I hope someone on this thread is good with stats - just how many league games have we won at home over the last 4yrs as a %?? I think the answer if it comes will make terrible reading! The atmosphere at the Pirelli is practically non existent - why because nothing happens in the opposition box - crosses/shots - just something happening to get the fans going!! Other posts have mentioned the word TURGID and that’s the football that has been served up for far too long! I despair when I see the ball being passed backwards time and time again - quite often when we are in the oppositions half!! Our pre-match team talks must only take less than 30 seconds to deliver- 1 - long throw aimed at near post - which is overloaded with defenders as they know exactly what’s coming 2 - if in doubt either pass it backwards or boot the ball long! Rant over - watching us is seriously damaging my mental health - not only the results have to change but the way we play football has to - because it’s totally boring !!!!

I’m not actually sure it’s Martin’s fault we are in this situation. He accepted what might have been a poisoned chalice. The decision to ship out our experienced forwards had been made and was ongoing when he joined, with Hugill already signed. He then brought in Ola Adebola, Leko and Hudlin. Was unlucky with Leko and had to move quickly for Hackford as a replacement. But I’d guess was just following instructions to save money. I keep going back in my mind to the supporters forum in September and the fact that it was Ben alone, rather than Ben and the manager as in the past. There were some quite strong words about ‘his big players not doing it’ and it looked like the writing was already on the wall. I had never seen Ben in such a critical and forthright mood before and more than just me noticed the change. We were only 6 games into the season at that point. Once again you get what you pay for and with patience I think we could have had a decent team, indeed we have the makings of one now but with only boys up front.

They were giving away programmes in the Popside bar on Tuesday. One of the front pages was filled with the (ugly) mug of Stephen Quinn. A player who wanted and still wants to play for Nigel Clough.
Clough said something like 'his legs have gone, he can't run but others can do that, just play in the middle and pass the ball'.
After Clough left there seemed to be a situational where he was presumed to be an attacking final third midfielder.
Anyway it didn't work, he found a move back to play for Clough at Mansfield. He passes the ball, passes it forwards and often with one touch and on the floor.
Our current best midfielder lies deep, passes it in triangles or lumps it. Our roving midfielder gets the ball and plays it the way he is facing (great observation whoever it was above). We need width to pass inside to enable a forward ball.
Rambling post I know,
Apologies.

Jesus this has become incredibly negative. Yes we lost against a side we needed to beat, yes we've been god damn awful at home recently, yes the last few years have been pretty dire....
So we expect a new manager to come in and change it all overnight do we? He walked in to a club that couldn't score goals, Stockton was already on his way out and Walker and Gordon both aren't good enough for league one. Lubala was so so and not committed so MP has gone out and got what he could in on loan. On paper 2 exciting prospects, one man mountain and Leko with a reputation and point to prove. Unfortunately Leko got injured and Hackford was the replacement. Was it a gamble, yes, would have sticking with Walker and Gordon been more so, hell yes.
We moaned about passing it about at the back so that's stopped and we've gone more direct. Still not happy.
There's moans about 5 at the back. We've got 4 quality centre backs, so why not play to our strengths and play 3 of them. We brought in Bola as he's a wing back.
We've bombed Caprice, who has been awful.
We've been making subs and trying to go for it. Hasn't always come off but at least we're trying. How frustrating was Dino when he refused to use the bench.
MP is saying the right things and generally in his press conferences etc is honest about what it was like. He's not bullshitting us or deluded like Dino.
He's come in with the old staff so there will still be some older influences in there. It'll be interesting if that changes in the summer.
He's clearly passionate about this job and cares, we've had plenty that have looked bereft.
Are there still things we have issues with like Powell being played too deep, yes. Deji playing in midfield ahead of actual midfielders, yes.
Have we got a style of play down yet, no.
It's not even 2 months that he's been here, so please let's cut him some slack. I believe in him, I get positive vibes. He's trying things with hands tied behind his back due to prior recruitment.
Will we stay up, I expect yes as there's other teams who are as bad as we are sometimes.
Are we financially a league one side, probably not, we are still punching above our weight. We were spoilt for a number of years with getting promotions above our stature, we're now struggling with not winning games or being top half. We'd like to be on the fringes of the play offs, this league is poor and anyone can beat anyone. We're also wary of the financial clout of those looking likely to come up.
Back on to topic, give the guy a chance!
I'm off to Cheltenham on Saturday, best mate lives down there so we'll have a good time. I'm confident Pato will do me proud.
C'mon you Brewers
