I think Brayford is also on record as saying he enjoys playing cb and that is where he sees his future (as well as telling us how important Bucko is on the pitch organising and behind the scenes organising, mentoring, supporting younger players) At the start of the transfer window I thought I'd read NC was looking at targets in a range of positions not just cb Who's our other rb? Not best position for either Akins or Fox imo Fadz is our best footballing cb on his day but is prone, as are others, to the mispass and more than others for wreckless tackles that have cost us points. I don't think Damo has been shabbily treated by NC or the club. IMO wingers often get the better of him with their speed and get in crosses he fails to block/prevent. I wasn't sure if either Fadz or Damo would start on Weds but NC showed his fairness by playing both of them. I feared the worse and another hatfull of goals against when I saw Damo starting..... Strangely he seemed to do OK in the middle after Turner went off didn't he? tho I must admit I wasn't paying his game any special attention..... He a player who seems to divide opinion. Fadz had a good game and Boycie a better game than he has of late.... I wouldn't be surprised if 2 or 3 more don't arrive before the window closes.. Ok lets go through this. Damian was shown the door at the beginning of last season after we signed Steven Warnock out he went to Pompey. However Warnock was not a success at our club, more a disaster and Damian was recalled in January and used during the second half of that season and then offered a new contract in Aug 18. Less than 6 months later he is bombed and I can tell you he was offered 3 months wages to go now let alone any interest from any other clubs thats how desperate the club were to get him out. What kind of a way is that to treat the record appearance player. It shabby at best dont you think?

Without trying to sound flippant I think the scenario you have described is just how the football world is. NC thought Warnock was a better bet than Damo at the start of last season and unfortunately he got that one wrong. Warnock was released and Damo came back from Pompey and fair play to Damo he worked his way back into the team and played well enough to earn himself another years contract. This season, at a lower level, Damo's performances have been mixed at best and Reece has emerged and looks like with a bit of development like he is the future. Damo down the pecking order again but to me it is purely down to performance. It was interesting when we played Walsall away where I ended up sitting behind our dugout so was able to view NC at close quarters. Despite what turned out to be one of our best performances for many a year that day he was on at Damo virtually all match and took him off in the last minute of injury time replacing him with Fox. When Damo left the pitch and walked past NC there was no reaction or recognition on either side which said to me I think there is a problem with that relationship. Just my observation on what was a great day for us. As for Damo being offered three months money to leave again I think that's just the reality of trying to run our club on a shoestring and having to wheel and deal. To be honest, as a supporter, that's how I would expect it to be run. That's just modern day football where there can't be room for sentiment. I'm sure Damo will be OK and get himself fixed up somewhere else in the football league and we will send him on his way with our thanks for great years service.

After reading this post I think it belongs in the “Thread of perpetual blinkered positivity” thread. Nicey nicey approach or what! Football isn’t a nicey nicey sport I’m afraid. winners are the people who take no shite. Like Brian Clough probably the best manager ever. No nonsense bloke who didn’t play yes men. He played whoever could get him a result. He once said I’d play Jack the ripper if he could get me 3 points. Meanwhile we didn’t get a player booked in a 9-0 defeat. He’d turn in his grave at that. We have a team of yes men and do gooders. Who don’t upset the Apple cart. And the manager can control. No wonder we are mid table

No wonder we are mid table Please don't start mis quoting Brian Clough to try to make your point, please don't say he'd be turning in his grave cos we didn't get a player booked. You've clearly got no idea of his principals on character and discipline. Burton Albion have just spent two seasons on the championship and just got to a league cup semi final and we've got duck eggs trying to get him sacked and trying to unsettle the forum and the club. We've also got posters releasing confidential information about a player still at the club being offered a pay off to leave, the same poster doing everything he can to undermine every decision the manager has made. I wonder what would be the reaction of the Chairman and manager to Damian going public with that, I cant see it doing him any favours but still, it lets Royston have another pop so fair play. When will enough be enough? When will you two be satisfied?

If a player goes public then you can't go around trying to silence folks on a forum for discussing it and then blame the poster for unsettling relationships, isn't that the whole point is it not? Another thing Broomo/Statking.. You speak of posters hiding behind pseudonyms yet you went one step further by leaving as one then returning as another. I don't believe we've had much drama of late, and then you come back to stir the sh1t pot once more. We don't want it nor need it. Save it for DCFCfans

I think Annable sums up the situation here surrounding Damo perfectly. No footballer these days expects to be at a club a long time, inevitably it is the nature of the game to move on and work to 2-3 year contracts.
Damo has been fantastic for us and us him. I think he would still be my first choice.
He didn’t fit into our Championship plans but “he wasn’t shown the door” as the poster says. He was given an opportunity to win a 3 yr deal at Pompey by going out on loan. That sadly didn’t work out in the main through injury I believe.
NC wants to reshape the team, plan for next season now and I expect the club are working hard to find Damo a decent 3 yr deal (not available with us) elsewhere in the next day or so. Good luck to the lad.
In answer to the original question, no I don’t think Damo is being shabbily treated. In some ways it is sad to see players leave but that’s football.

Embarrassing Sorry but you can't have it both ways. One minute people accuse NC of blind loyalty and faith in his old mates and the next he is criticised for being classless towards Damo( who is not our record appearance holder by the way). Damo has been given his chance this season and his standards have not been as good as they have in the past and hence he has been dropped and probably moved on. That's football. I remember the week after the Walsall game when we lost in the cup to Scunny when a fuming NC was asked after the game about what he can do to stop performances like that one and his answer was simple. We just look for better players in January who can do the job they're paid for. Cut throat and not at all nicey nicey which is exactly how it should be.

I keep thinking about that Scott Fraser interview - the 'tough love' one. Straight away, I thought of Damo and thought - I bet it doesn't work on him.
A few of the posts above also remind me of the time that Gary Rowett let Andy Corbett, Jon McGrath and someone else (was it Aaron?) go at the end of the season. I was at Corbett's testimonial when they all came over to the Popside at the end and I couldn't believe such legends were being allowed to let go. But then I also realised they didn't fit into Gary's plans. Hey-ho.
Even worse, two days before the announcement, Macca had been playing a blinder against Bradford in the play-off semi that we lost.
We're a lovely club who do everything 'right'. But we still have to be tough. If sentimentally came into it, I'm sure Nigel would have Darren Stride on the pitch every week.
