Oh dear, Clough's Night of Long Knives. All the old band are being brought back, and the clock is being turned back to the future. When Clough was appointed he said the backroom staff would be staying. Little more than a month later, and they are gone. Clough's talk of little in the way of changes blown out of the water.
There has been much stick handed out to Jimmy Floyd, most of it unwarranted. Given the choice, I'd have him back tomorrow.
We are going backwards appointing has beens and serial failures at league clubs. It may not immediately be clear, but things started to unravel today. The players will be unsettled, to say the least.. Most fans will be, too. I sincerely hope to be proved wrong, but the signs are pointing downwards now.

Well may I be amongst the first to welcome Martin Taylor back to the club. I have no reason to doubt his ability and am sure he will pick up where mr ward left off. Thanks to Gavin ward. Obviously a top bloke and top professional. He deserves an opportunity to progress, which he has been given,. That's what this, Gavin has moved on and Nigel has replaced him. . It's that simple. Good luck to Nigel and the back room staff.

If Burton Albion in 3 years time won the Champions league, Premier league, FA and Carling Cups there are those that would still not be happy !

You should never settle for second best, there's always room for improvement :-)

Hahaha so true Terraceman. As per my previous post, Mancityitis has set in....!
I have no idea who the chap is, but at the end of the day, John McLaughlin isn't going to go from a great goalkeeper to absolute tripe just because a goalkeeping coach changed. He's not (I hope) a petulant prima donna like a lot of the PL players are when their coach isn't who they want.
Hopefully not speaking too soon.

What is he supposed to do?

The coach and fitness coach still remain as far as I know. As for "has beens and serial failures"? Please!!!! Are you another who thinks Clough and co have been locked away since they left here? I assume you may be a Forest fan with a grudge.

And so far he is on 2.25 points per game... Your calculator battery needs changing. It's actually 2.5 if you include the Gills match, which I don't since Ward and Hornby covered that game so it's 2.33ppg so far. Not a bad start. You are right it is 2.5 per game as manager. Ta

Out of interest, is the Birmingham Senior Cup ever taken seriously by clubs (i.e First team playing)?
Or will the seconds even play in the final?

OT a bit - I am in the USA for 3 weeks ending on Friday the 6th May and I am attempting to get to Doncaster on the 7th May for the final game of the season .
If we're on for promotion I need to be there.

I queried this with the Birmingham County FA a few years ago to determine whether to count appearances and goals against first team stats. Their response was that they consider it a first team competition but teams from Conference upwards are allowed to play 'weaker'/reserve sides. When Nigel was here before we reached the final against Birmingham City. The County FA insisted it was played on a certain date at St Andrews the day before we had an important League game. We played the reserves against Birmingham and lost 5-0. A bit more foresight from the County FA and we could have had a different date, at the Pirelli with a much larger crowd instead of the 300 that went to St Andrews.

I run my own business have done for many years now. Prior to that I managed in larger businesses. Every time I moved on I would go back and legally cherry pick the best staff from my previous place. Managers at football clubs do the same. Fact is any staff that JFH or Rowett didn't choose to take with them they can't have rated as highly as the ones they took. Simple as that. I don't know any individuals involved but if JFH takes 3 of our backroom team for example and leaves just one then I predict he takes what he considers the best 3 to help him be a success. So if you are keen we keep all the ones he doesn't want to take and hope that we do then that's upto you. Personally I just hope Nigel has the best backroom team we can afford and if that means him cherry picking best staff he has worked with in past etc then that's the way it is.

Simon Clough was appointed as chief scout when Nigel was in charge at Derby and subsequently put on gardening leave following Nigel's dismissal Simon was then given the position of chief scout at Sheff Utd following Nigel's tenure there. Voluntary , unpaid work ? I doubt that very much. I certainly don't miss non league football and would never want to go back there Both those clubs would have a budget for a chief scout role. As far as I know we have never employed a chief scout and as such there won't be a budget to pay Simon. In another thread I read a poster saying we should be scouring lower leagues for talent - as I said before then we need the manager or assistant manager or coaches to do that. We really should consider employing paid scouts as we progress up the Leagues. The pay is poor regardless - I know a few in the pro game. At burton the only scouts I know are at the academy level and they do it voluntarily - don't even get expenses to travel to the games so it's a labour of love. Labour of love will be a big reason the club has got where it is so far. We have an official Head of Recruitment at the academy. He is a school teacher who does the job because he enjoys it in his spare time. All the scouts who help him are similarly employed elsewhere and do the role in their spare time for free.

Might be a silly question, or a obvious answer, why is it (and correct me if I'm wrong on this) we always play away in the BSC??

I say all that believing that Simon will be our chief scout either officially or unofficially and likely get no salary or next to nothing to do it. And even if we make it to Championship would get paid fraction of what a club like Derby or Sheff Utd paid for the role.
When his dad took over at Hartlepool - he used to paint the ground and drive the team bus as well.
It's all relative to what the club can afford.

Until recently we had an Opposition Analyst Scout (doubling up as an Academy Coach) named Irfan Kawri. The club tweeted their congratulations to him the other day after he was appointed as assistant coach of the Zambian National Football Team (his native country I believe). When I got Football Manager 16 game recently and saw he was our scout I thought it was a made-up name until someone told me he actually existed!!!
It is my understanding that at the moment Gary Crosby is doing the scouting on upcoming opponents, hence why he has not been at the last two home games against Swindon and Blackpool.
Bennyboy - I am not sure why we keep getting away draws in the BSC. Unless for some bizarre reason we have requested away games to save wear and tear on our pitch etc (!) then I have always put it down to the bad luck of the draw. Certainly in years gone by we have had home games but not for a little while. I cant remember the last home game in the BSC that I did the PA for.
