From Southend's Official Site Interview: Phil Brown on all things Burton Albion, injuries and familiar faces Posted: Thu 01 Oct 2015 Author: @sufcrootshall image: www.southendunited.co.uk/cms_images/150929-snap-crewe-v-southend-0152-2717757_478x359.jpgThe boss previews Saturday's trip to take on old foes Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium. We spoke to boss Phil Brown ahead of the trip to Burton Albion on Saturday on a host of things. The boss talked form on the road, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Burton Albion, injuries and much more. The full interview with the boss can be watched on Blues Player HD later today. Brown on three-game winning run and early season form… “It’s a combination of a lot of things. I think having belief is the main one. There’s not too much difference to the first and second divisions. There’s a better quality in the final third; the strikers tend to be better in League 1. “There’s some good measurements and yardsticks in this league and Saturday will be another one. Burton away was the turning point last season and I’m looking forward to it.” Brown on Burton Albion… “We’ve watched them three or four times this season and they’re a resilient bunch. It’s not daunting going there. We know we’ll give them a good game but it’ll be a tight match and it’s going to be a big weekend for both clubs.” Brown on injuries… “Stephen McLaughlin is back on the training ground and should be in the selection. John White could play a part. He’s on the training ground today and if he comes through today and tomorrow then he could be in contention. Adam Barrett and Kevan Hurst are both out and Noel Hunt is 50/50 – he took a whack on Tuesday evening. Noel’s been challenged on a couple of occasions already this season but he won't moan about it." Brown on Hasselbaink… “Jimmy’s a studious guy and carries the weight of his career with him. The baton was handed over and he’s also got David Oldfield in there as well. "Jimmy’s done a fantastic job there and has added that Dutch flair and stature and standing to Burton.” Brown on Jerome Binnom-Williams… “He’s just changed his role. Apparently on Tuesday he was a left-winger and was brought off at half time. Whether that was a case of injury, tactics or not playing well I’m not sure. We’ll see that happy, smiley face and we’ll say hello to him on Saturday!” Read more at www.southendunited.co.uk/news/article/southend-united-burton-albion-phil-brown-league-1-2721047.aspx#VJUwYqLBoIvPSW92.99

Joe Pigott: We believe we can win any game at the moment Posted: Thu 01 Oct 2015 Author: @sufcrootshall image: www.southendunited.co.uk/cms_images/pigott4x352-2721273_478x359.jpgStriker admits two goals against Crewe has given him a confidence boost heading into clash with Burton Albion. Southend United striker Joe Pigott says the confidence is flowing in the squad at the moment as the Blues aim to make it four consecutive wins on Saturday at Burton Albion. Phil Brown’s side head to the Pirelli Stadium in red hot form having earned the three points against Millwall, Scunthorpe United and at Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday. The game in midweek saw Pigott bag a brace, and the on loan forward admits his confidence has been boosted with the two-goal haul. “The whole team go into the game full of confidence and are looking forward to it,” Pigott said on Thursday ahead of our game against the Brewers. “I wouldn’t say I was struggling but I was lacking a bit of confidence so scoring the two goals is a boost for me, personally.” “The second one everyone says it was offside but it definitely wasn’t. I knew the run I made and it was a simple finish in the end. “I should have probably had a hat-trick when I missed that chance in the first half that his the bar. And Pigott doesn’t have the best of memories from his last trip to the Pirelli Stadium, which ended in disappointment for the Blues back in March this year. “It was topsy-turvy at their place last season,” the 21-year-old reflects. “It was a bitter pill to swallow losing to a late goal after going 1-0 up and being against ten men for half the game.” In their ranks Burton have a familiar face in the form of Jerome Binnom-Williams, who spent almost a season on loan at Roots Hall last season, and Joe’s looking forward to meeting up with the defender. “I saw him score a pretty good goal the other week and appears to have started well at Burton. “It’s about us though and we’re settling into the division now. I think we’ve played against teams who have been up there this season like Walsall, for example. “We believe we can win any game at the moment.” You can watch a full interview with Joe on Blues Player HD later today. Phil Brown. As humble as ever. C*ck. I can't think of a more dislikeable club than Southend. The circumstances surrounding the Maghoma sending off four years ago, being called a disgrace to the football league and undeserving of our place in the league on their forum for having the audacity to only take a handful of supporters down there for a Friday night game days before Christmas, the aggro we got after beating them in the play off semi final a few years ago, the total disrespect the orange tosser has shown us over the past few years and the way they went about their business at the Pirelli back in March. Brewers 46 - 0 Southend. Please and thank you.

I didn't sleep that night six months ago, have never had an adrenaline rush like it. I remember their keeper Bentley being particularly dislikeable, disdainfully goading everyone behind the goal every time he collected the ball... boy did he get his comeuppance though! One thing of note given the latest injuries update, I think that night was Callum Reilly's only league start for the Brewers (replaced early on by Matty Palmer, who went on to score that brilliant equaliser).

Just found my half time text to the wife: "In first half Brewers have conceded a penalty, saved it it, had two players off injured, conceded a goal, got in a punch up, had man sent off! Not too hopeful for second half!" Football is incredible.

What a great evening that was and probably the most important one in terms of pulling back three points that were seemingly lost at half time?
Can't stand the Tangoed W****r and his disgracefully cynical and nasty little team.
I am convinced the tactics are practiced on the training ground and instilled by Mr Orange?
Hoping for a strong and wise referee to spot that they are a dirty bunch of cloggers who are craftier than a barrel load of monkeys!

"We may have to approach it and play a little bit differently, but that brings beautiful challenges. "They approach the game differently to Sheffield United, putting lots of crosses from deep areas into the box. "They have a lot of long throws and two quite big strikers up front, who like the physical part of the game. "They commit a lot from set-pieces so from that aspect, it'll be a different game. "We have to cope with that, find our way of playing and try to hurt them." We'll create chances. I'm sure of that. We always do. It's whether we're clinical and ruthless enough to take them. I'm just praying we get "that" day that comes around for clubs where everything you hit ends up in the back of the net. I noted Brown's apparent disbelief that JBW had been playing left wing for us. Well since we'll probably play Akins, Duffy and Nasser behind Beavon tomorrow it's going to be the perfect opportunity for our Phil to see first hand what a 20 minute burst from JBW running at a knackered full back looks like.

Expecting a sending off tomorrow one way or another. Hopefully will be a decent game and JBW to come off the bench and get the winner!!!

"SOUTHEND United skipper John White has welcomed the extra competition for the right-back berth in the Shrimpers’ starting line-up. White is now under added pressure to perform following the arrival of Luke O’Neill from Burnley." but Burton Albion loanee Binnom-Williams out to show Southend United what they're missing. Oh dear...Just what we need...a ref who loves to be the star attraction as well as not having a clue! What have we done to deserve this? Shame as Tuesday's ref was excellent from start to finish...how many times do we say that?

According to the Southend forum Kettle has refereed just 7 matches so far this season and has brandished 32 yellow cards and 4 reds already!
Five-a-side tomorrow anyone?

Trevor kettle (shrewsbury fans forum) gavgav Local Leagues Apr 20, 2015 at 7:27pm Quote My heart just sank when I saw this on the Football League site. The worst ref in the league and I have never seen him ref a Town game without either an unjust red card for one of our players or a dodgy penalty against us. Complete clown!!
