To be honest I think that McGurk thinks he can get a better deal elsewhere but as funky says the grass isn't always greener. Hope he stays personally. I'm sure he will have been offered a better deal than previously just due to the fact that league 1 wages are higher than league 2. That goes for the deals for all the players I would have thought, I would guess it is written into all the signed players contracts too.

FFP is driving average wages down though across the board in Football League

FFP is driving average wages down though across the board in Football League I doubt FFP affects BAFC much at all. Our club has always operated within its means. So many of our opponents may have to lower players wages, I don't think this would apply to us.

So many of our opponents may have to lower players wages, I don't think this would apply to us. While FFP may not lead to much, if any, of an adjustment in our operations/wage structure (tho' I guess promotion to League One will mean some upwards changes), if other clubs have to lower their wages, then, (if we were one of the the lower payers previously - I don't know but assume - in comparison to most League One clubs anyway) we must become less unattractive to those trying to maximise their income when deciding whether to sign for us or not. While money may not be everything and far from the only reason why players sign up to this club or that club, I suggest that it cannot it be ignored as a consideration either. If the playing field is being levelled up on wages then the other factors (in which I believe we should score highly) will become more significant when attracting players of quality to play for BAFC.......a positive effect surely......I'm not sure if "cheating" is an appropriate word to use but, in any game, enforcing fair play rules must inevitably help those who are already playing fair I think.....

I think there are some clubs going through a very painful process of trimming wages. A few seasons ago for instance we offered Clark Carlisle £800 a week, but Northampton signed him for £1600 a week. They have since been through the task of having to reduce wages. This is very difficult to do when the tradition of expected pay is so much higher. Port vale (who just escaped relegation), are now going through a tough transition. Their fans claim Tom Pope was being paid £3000 a week (I have my doubts about this fact), and has been offered £2500 a week which he is at the moment not prepared to sign. If the fans reported figures are anywhere near accurate, they really do have a problem. Port Vale enjoy a considerably higher home attendance than we do, but do not have the additional income we have and as far as I know lose money every season. I would suggest that we do not have the capacity to pay players that sort of money. Tom Pope is a proven player, and may get another club at a wage he wants at a higher level, or he may find that the offer he has on the table at Port Vale is in fact generous, and perhaps unbeatable within our new FFP climate. These are interesting times.

I just don't expect us to pay much higher wages in League One (if any) than we did in League Two And we are helped by the fact that FFP is driving wages down all around us Nobody is throwing big money around in lower leagues nowadays and if they were it wouldn't be at players like McGurk and that's no disrespect as I like him as a player I do realise though that at this level a player has to look after himself and his family etc and take the best deal he can get

I'm sure you are right. Clubs can not afford to pay much higher wages in League One. They will though I believe pay a higher wages than League Two. This will be funded by a slight increase in revenues to League One clubs from the Premier League, and hopefully increased attendance figures. You can be sure though that Ben will control finances to keep us in a sound financial state.

We get some money for being promoted, plus Increased TV revenues, ticket prices have increased as should the gates, additional away support esp. with more teams within a 90 minute drive, increased merchandise sales, etc. will all fund extra wages without dipping into the current bank account. Any player not under a current contract who has signed for next season will get an increase in pay (Jono, Phil) and I have no doubt Nassers agent negotiated an increase in salary with his extension. Current out of contract Players who helped get us promoted who are not offered a decent increase if they sign will probably leave and I wouldn't blame them. Our players are on a high, they worked their butts off, got us promoted and as a bonus won the league. If you don't reward that it is like putting a pin in a balloon.

I'm guessing JFH has a scout or connection in Scotland as we seem to be linked with a few from there. As well as the obvious dutch connection.

Happy with that, obviously we didn't see much of him in game time but I assume he was training with us for a while, good experience at a young age, hopefully he will be able to get better and better.

Good to see some activity with a signing and rumours of others etc. Callum Reilly makes a lot of sense, he obviously impressed in his brief loan spell, Jimmy and David must have liked his character, ability and potential, has plenty of championship experience. he's the right age at 23 and has potential to improve. Kallum Higginbottom I have seen, a passionate, skilful and good player technically, I can see why Jimmy would like him, only 25 he has a lot of experience above league 1 but I think there will be a lot of competition for his signature. Nathaniel Mendez Laing is a little different, has undoubted ability and again at 23 has bags of experience at league 1 and above, however he has lost his way over the last couple of seasons so is a bit of a gamble, if he does sign and can knuckle down he could be a real asset. Its going to be exciting times for us Brewers fans over the next few weeks as Jimmy and David add to the squad in preparation for our 1st season ever in league 1.

Sounds a good opportunity for Nathaniel Mendez Laing. Jimmy will give him the chance to channel himself, but I don't think he will be messed about either

The Nathaniel deal could mean that's Gurks is on his way out? Reilly will provide another very good option in midfield and can provide cover at fullback as well, this signing makes good sense. I like what I saw of him in the very brief spell he had before getting injured. Nasser, Maynard and Naylor should be on the books soon! It's starting come into shape already. I wonder if Blythy will be back?

Nasser is already on the books for next season according to what was said last week by the club , they are just trying to sort out a deal to keep him for two years .

If we sign Nathaniel I'm going to assume we aren't getting higginbotham as well
I like the fact we are looking at more attacking options

I'm not so sure Observer.
From what I have read then NML can play on either wing or up front or in the hole. So can Higginbotham. We also have Nasser and Lucas who can be either wingers or strikers. All depends what roles Jimmy has in mind for them. If we were to get Flo back then we have good attacking options to partner Beavon as the out and out striker..............then we have to see what happens with Gurks.
Would still like to see an out and out striker though to share the load with Beavon.
I get the feeling that Jimmy wants a squad of players who are versatile and can fill multiple roles when needed. Quality over quantity.
I still would not be surprised to see the Liverpool lads return on loan next season.
Another centre half to cover Moose (I know we have Sladey but he is a bit of an unknown quantity) and we won't be far off I reckon.
