Thoughts on Dean Saunders? Good record with Wrexham and (in his second season) with Doncaster until he stepped up too quickly to Wolves. Still young, but plenty of top level experience from roles with Wales and Newcastle. Good contacts in the game. Looking for a job currently and interested in a role where he can build something over time ( Link)

I'm sure Michael Johnson was interested when Pesch left. I think he might have even been mentioned in that local paper of ours. Could be a good shout, that. Well he's just become the first to throw his hat into the ring.

He's dabbled in youth coaching and had a short term job at Notts county Last I heard he was coaching birmingham under 16s He's thrown his hat in because he needs a full time job and some money like lots of ex players No disrespect intended

If he would consider it as a challenge then I would love Tim Sherwood
We do offer a great opportunity with us being third in the league for a manager to get a promotion under their belt

For those on twitter Owen Bradley from Radio Derby seems to be ahead of the game on this.

If he had been any good he would have got another job long ago. We have gone beyond being desperate enough to offer people like him the job.

Bit like Have I got News for You.

Next week Steve Clarke
Week after Ian Holloway
(I'm just checking if Dave Bassett is still mentally sound as he might get an invite as well)

My cv is on the way to Ben now. I reasoned I could just listen to all of the experts on here and make my management decisions based on that.

I'm not going to speculate, we will have to wait and see who makes the shortlist. I think Ben will have his phone switched on tis time !

I'm not totally convinced that being out of work is definite proof of a lack of ability. To pluck a name at random, Tim Sherwood is currently out of work, and I don't think he would be considered by most people to be a poor manager (not that I think he would come to Burton, I hasten to add). Billy Davies is also currently out of work, as is Chris Hughton. Sometimes, managers are not in a job because they haven't found the right job, rather than a lack of ability. Anyway, as I think it is unlikely that we'll be paying compensation, it's quite likely that we'll be looking at managers not currently in a job, so you may have to prepare yourself to be disappointed. You can see a current list of such managers here.

Of course being out of work is not a reflection of ability in the world of football managers, but there is being out of work and there is not being able to get another job because you aren't very good. My opinion is that Saunders falls into the latter category.

Too cocky by half - and one of the worst TV pundits ever, trying to blag it as a league 2 expert. Even me, with my limited knowledge, could tell he had no idea about league 2 clubs or players.

On another note…thank goodness nobody has mentioned Mark Cooper….
It is funny how in the intervening years since Rowett became manager we and the potential pool of mangers have moved on. The times they have changed and so has Burton Albion. I believe we have outgrown people like Burr, who as I have said before to me is out of the frame due to the time having passed (and I had heard he would not apply for the post because he had been turned down too many times). and then there are manager like Cooper who have risen above our level and yet in times gone by would have been seen as a good option. What I do do believe is that in BR we have a Chairman who is not afraid to go for the unexpected and indeed has a track record of doing so. I would not be at all surprised if our new manager is one that none here will have mentioned in this thread…
I see Nigel Worthington is in the frame as far as the betting goes… another noooo for me there!

Add Ady Boothroyd and Sean O'Driscoll
