Welcome to Burton Albion and good luck to you both. Long may it last. Like I said above: - I'm buzzin with this appointment - I can't wait for the new style of play he will bring - I'm looking forward to new players being brought in, Very much so
I'll wager the players are buzzing too, he would have been a hero to quite a few them as they were growing up, esp if they are Leeds or Chelsea supporters. Just imagine being in that dressing and Jimmy walks in for the first time....BAM!
first and foremost, let's give the new management team our full support. We could be in for a rough November..... COYB!!

Whilst standing on the Eton Park terrace all those moons ago I could never foresee the Albion of today, not even in my wildest dreams.
Now 'little' Burton Albion thanks to Ben are a well run club financially with a super new stadium and are, nicely established as one of the better teams in league 2. As such the Albion set up and progress so far makes the Brewers hot seat a highly sought after position, attracting high caliber and very capable applicants.
I'm delighted that the 'high profile' JFH has been given his chance to cut his football league management teeth.
Hopeful of exciting times ahead and I will wish him well when he moves on leaving Brewers established in league 1.
Is that too much to hope for? No not really it's well achievable, when you look back to see just how far the club has progressed
Unlike those days at Eton Park when thoughts of Burton Albion even achieving league status were just pure fantasy.
Well done chairman, Thank You

Well said tollerton - couldn't agree more.... Unbelievable levels of progress have been made in the years of Ben's stewardship - all of us should be so proud. I was at first going to respond by saying - I don't know mikeyboy - I'm not sure I've done much to be proud of - let Ben have the pride in what he's done - I'll just be grateful..... .......then I thought about it for a while and I thought - for the few hundred of us that have been there from and through the Eton Park years - we are part of it too - a tiny bit individually but quite a lot collectively. For all that there are moans about the level of support we have built up - and we all wish there were another thousand or so on the gate each week - without the support that does exist - at current levels - the club wouldn't be what it is - with or without Ben. ....and the newcomers are important too - since we'd not have much credibility and our League position would scarcely be sustainable, if we were still only pulling in the 500-800 of our Northern Prem/Southern League days..... so I think while Ben and his team can take 99% of the credit and feel rightly proud of his/their Burton Albion achievements....we supporters can perhaps enjoy a little bit of smug pride for being there throughout and lending our support (and hard-earned cash), home and away (some), over the last twenty years, or more, or less..... .......it's been an enjoyable and exciting ride that's brought me, for one, a lot of pleasure........and - even tho' I thought surviving one year in the League might be the limit of our success - it's clear now that Ben always had other ideas and the ride's not over yet ...... .....hang on to your hats boys and girls, the next chapter's about to begin....

Nicely put Everard and I think Ben would acknowledge the input of the fans too, as without what was undoubtedly very loyal support in relatively large numbers, by non-league standards, this "little club" would not have become what it is today. Quite simply put; no income through the turnstiles equals economic disaster and no more club.
With the changes we have seen over the years, going back to 1967/68 season in my case, none of the progress could have been made without those 500 to 1000 people who turned out week in week out, in sometimes very bleak times indeed. I would however say that we have been fortunate to see many more ups than we have downs over that time and sometimes lady luck has smiled upon us and helped us along to where we are today.
Take nothing away from Ben though, he will undoubtedly go down as the man who not only saved Burton Albion but also took us forward to dizzy heights we would never have expected, all those years ago. To my mind, he should have the freedom of Burton right now, or certainly some sort of civic award from the great and good of Burton-on Trent, in recognition of what he has done for his home town club and indeed, in raising the profile of Burton nationally?
Whether JFH is the right man for the job, remains to be seen. I really hope so as I loved watching Jimmy as a player and he comes over as a totally charming guy, who seems to handle the press extremely well. He has certainly seen off a very large field of candidates, some with on the face of it, very good cv's so we must again trust Ben's judgement.
I have to ask though, is anyone else as sick to death of the media reporting him as "the 3rd black manager in top flight football?"
I'll wager we would not have appeared on the main BBC news channel this morning, had Ben selected a white person for the job and I also loved the way Jimmy himself gently put Radio Derby's reporter down yesterday for veering into similar territory?
When will people learn we're only interested in a person's ability to do the job put before him or her and stop this obsession of calculating percentage quotas for the requirement to have a certain number of people of a particular ethnicity or sexual orientation in management positions?
Surely that is the true definition of equality?

I'm proud that we have a Black manager at the club who was chosen, not because of his skin colour, but because he was the best person for the job out of all who applied, on merit.

Tollerton speaks emotionally for many of us on this site. I thought we had reached a good pinnacle when we were promoted to the Conference. I can remember watching games so low in quality in our earlier years, that in fact stopped me going to Eton Park for a long time. I then discovered a new passing game of acceptable and watchable quality under Nigel Clough, and we have not looked back since.

Very good posts tollerton, everard. I share the excitement of what this change in management will hopefully bring to Burton. I can't wait for the new style of play, and players, that they will bring. but the next 3 games will not be easy and I hope everyone gives them a break if things don't go our way.
JFH just ticks so many boxes, he's qualified, experienced, ambitious, has contacts in UK, Holland and Belgium, charismatic, a media magnet, knows the game from both sides of the touch line and last but not least he would be an appointment that recognises the equality in sport movement.
In the SkySports interview I don't think this could have been handled any better: "Hasselbaink’s appointment means he is the third black manager in the Football League with Chris Powell at Huddersfield and Keith Curle at Carlisle.
But the Dutchman insists his race should not be an issue and has not idea if the quota of non-white managers is high enough.
Hasselbaink said: “I have no idea. Look I knew the question was coming but for me it’s not really that important. I just hope and I think the chairman chose me because of what I can bring to the club and that I’m the right man for the job, black, white or whatever.”
Perfect!
And also agree with this comment: ".....hang on to your hats boys and girls, the next chapter's about to begin...."

Having been on the terraces since 1969 I echo all the sentiments written above. Way back I used to get derided by my mates for supporting Albion, since those times some of them have been with me to Wembley twice, play off matches, Old Trafford etc, etc etc, I now get respect as having been a fan for all these years and we are not little Burton anymore but serious contenders and still on the way up. Ben Robinson has steered the ship magnificently and the loyal crew havn't done a bad job either ! Come on you Brew - ersssssssss !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Page 28 of this thread must be the best ever page in the history of this forum or its predecessor. Everyone, even those with opposing views on many subjects, yes you Funky and you peacockbrewer, coming together in a wave of hope, emotion and posivitity, really bodes well for the future of this club, OUR club.
Let's face it, agree on it, we all want the same thing: continued and future success for Burton Albion FC. Opinions on how it can be achieved will always differ, and managers will come and go. We, the fans, as will the chairman, will always remain loyal. COME ON YOU BREWERS!!!

I don't know if it's because I don't use facebook or twitter or do a blog etc but is and could this forum possibly return to something like CMTD did in it's heyday?
There's been some really interesting and varied points of views expressed on this and other recent threads, but I've been pleasantly pleased (and dare I say it, slightly surprised) with the positivity surrounding the appointment of JFH. Onwards and upwards, let's all hope so!

Is it true JFH is only on £40,000 per year contract? I do hope there are clauses in his contract to boost his income,if he gets any sort of success. Seems strange when rowett was reported to be on a much bigger salary? £40,000 is very cheap for a football manager in the football league.
