Big Steve's Stevenage... Now in 9th place and 6 points + goal difference off play-offs. Have they given up hope of making them? Its another must-win game for us against Big Steve's boys including ex Brewers - Alex Macdonald and Kane Hemmings. Its always good to get one over Steve... but never easy...

Positives: They're in a pretty poor run of form - they are there for the taking. We're away from home so can relax a bit. The two points we have earned since since our poor run of form started have come away from home. Neither Cheltenham or Port Vale have easy matches. It surely has to get better?
Negatives: See previous 500 or so posts

Of course it was the reverse fixture back in December, quite simply one of the worst games of football you are ever likely to see, that saw the end for Dino within an hour of the final whistle going. You suspect the decision was already made in Ben's mind and the desperate football seen that day made him act swiftly.
Strange that on the eve of this game all the talk is of Dino's permanent replacement being relieved of his duties as well.
There is an outside chance of us actually starting this game OUTSIDE the relegation zone should Cheltenham fail to beat already relegated Carlisle and Vale lose by two or more against Peterborough tomorrow. Of course that's probably too much to hope for and would be more than we deserve for the shambolic efforts of the last 10 games.
Stevenage themselves have fallen away and now look unlikely to make the play offs having not won for 8 games but either way they have shown what can be done with effective management, recruitment and sticking to a plan that they believe works. Their manager is irksome and their style dreadful but they are comfortably top half which makes our efforts look pretty pathetic. You suspect that their style will need refining for next season if they are not to struggle given that at this level the teams quickly work you out and learn how to play against this style which,as we have seen for ourselves, is easier to get used to than those that play "proper" football.
As regards the line up I would like to see Harper in front of the back 4 with Kamwa and Carayol starting on the wings where we have been badly missing some width in recent months. How long they can last for I don't know but let's give it a go and take it from there. You have to hope that the players can find it in themselves to give these last 4 games a go and show some professional pride which has been sadly lacking of late. The worry is that as has been said before the players seem to have lost faith in the managers instructions and the way he wants to play(basically like Dino) and even the reliable ones have started going backwards.
Let's see what happens over the next two nights and we can see where we are and hopefully if results go our way then it sends us into Saturday in better heart. Up the Carlisle and Posh!!

Amen to that Annable, our situation is bleak but it isn't over just yet. Just one win and a lot can change, and as you mentioned, Stevenage aren't in great form, and may not have anything to play for come Saturday so hopefully it can springboard the remaining games of the season. They play Barnsley tonight so will keep an eye on that game

Have you seen who's Stevenage's goalkeeper against Barnsley tonight?
Craig MacGillivray!
See you Saturday, Craig.

I am optimistic that Stevenage will only beat us by single figures.

Brewers have been given a life line courtesy of Peterborough. The rest is up to the players for the remainder of the season !

Very helpful set of results this week that has taken us out of the relegation zone remarkably.
The worry for me now(sorry, there is always a worry!) is that recently MP said that he thought some of the players didn't realise we were in a relegation scrap and thought other results would keep going our way and help us. On that basis let's hope that they don't all go into training today thinking job done and we're going to be safe with barely getting a result ourselves. Complacency has already set in in my view.
I think that out of Cheltenham, Vale and ourselves that if anybody can win two games between now and then end of the season they would give themselves a good chance of staying up. Anything less than it really is in the lap of the gods.
We need to improve now.

at least we are now in the position where we know that as long as we match or beat cheltenham and port vale's results we are safe.
the game on Tuesday next week is looking like our cup final

www.burtonalbionfc.co.uk/news/2024/april/1104-martin/It's been a good week in training everybody! But seriously, he did speak about his comment he made last Saturday about the atmosphere saying "it wasn't a criticism, but just an observation"... he did say it was on the players and himself to basically not be awful like against Oxford but he is definitely aware of the fans feelings now

This game is our hardest on paper, although we know how horrific our home form has been. Two home wins might be enough.
A point really is the minimum we require in this one, as much as we need all three.

Naive question: does anyone know how to watch/stream this live? The Brewers website only has audio. Get a VPN on your PC/Laptop/Tablet, connect it to any country other than the UK, and then you can buy the streaming on iFollow.

The genius has set up with another back five, and no recognised striker. Congratulations on the 3 points Stevenage.

5 at the back again. No width with 4 centre mids again. What's that saying about doing the same things over and over again and expecting something different being the definition of insanity!
