Well I think that "football terrorism" won the day today, as soon as we went back to playing 5 at the back rather than that 6 across the middle and one in a training camp in Islamabad. Where is islamabad?

Please don't make it 8 home defeats. I'll be there Tuesday evening I'm going to be very vocal so Keggy beware.

Noticed on twitter that one of the club staff and Toto Nsiala were holding up Ryan Sweeney's shirt to the crowd after the game. His brother Dan who plays for Stevenage also didn't feature and I know he missed Wigan away due to something family-related so best wishes to him, Dan and the family

It would be nice to follow it up with a win Tuesday. Confidence booster for them and they owe us one. Well done for today, as said it wasn't pretty, now I need to find a post match interview from the Stevenage manager, should be nice.

45 pages of posts on the Vale Forum v Exeter. Most of them blaming the manager. One wanting Darren Moore replaced by Patrick Moore.

I watched the game on iFollow. I wasn’t expecting anything at all to cheer about. I started to imagine that this was a big cup game against one of the top premiership teams and I started to enjoy it; a plucky backs to the wall performance, battling against the odds. It’s all about context y’see. I was delighted to see Mason start up front with Helm and Powell supporting - it looked like a reasonably good tactical approach but Satanage were all over us for much of the first half.
In the end, the better football team lost, but the team which showed the most passion and spirit and fight won the day, and that will do for me.

Well they only had one player rated over 7.0 on FotMob ilson and that was Vancooten on 7.3. We had 6 - Oshilaja 7.1, Powell 7.1, Nsiala 7,2, Helm 7.3, Crocombe 7.3, Hamer 7.9 and the colossus that is Hughes was 8.7.

Very relieved we won. And it turned out to be a pivotal win given vales capitulation. However let’s be honest we got lucky again. But at this stage it doesn’t matter about possession and stats. It’s about results. 3 cup finals left. We need a big crowd Tuesday. Drop it to a tenner for Saturday ben and let’s try and get over to 5000.

Sorry chaps, the positivity here is clearly misplaced because, according to Football's Governing Body (aka Sky Sports) we LOST 2- 1 - see link below www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/13114679/stevenage-2-1-burton-albion-league-one-highlightsThe highlights show a piece of defending by us that might not match Franz Beckenbauer at his calmest but does show a tremendous desire the keep the ball out of the net. And Hamer's goal was beautifully worked, not something we can often accuse the lads of this season.

A vital and unexpected win that coupled with our closest rivals imploding made this is very good day. Any win is a good win especially away at a top half team and it doesn't matter what you have to do to get it. The first goal looked a complete fluke in fairness where Helm appeared to turn away and the ball hit him on the side of the head and went in. They all count!
Today's result was also vital for MP where the very defensive line up lead him open to major criticism so a win gives him some justification on this occasion. Shame to see Brayford and Bennett going off and also Sweeney being unavailable as their experience could/would be vital for the last three games but I guess it's an opportunity for others.
Onto Tuesday which is clearly a massive game and has had the look of one for a couple of months. A win would be amazing but I suspect it won't be easy. This really is last chance saloon for them where realistically they have to beat us to stand a chance of catching us. Even a draw is not much use. For us, if Vale lose to Wycombe, a point is not a disaster but we really have to approach this in a positive way to begin with and see if we can finish them off. I don't know why but I have started to get a bad feeling about this game which is madness given we have had a great day but I can't shake the feeling off that this is not over by a long chalk. I have thought for a while that the relegation scrap will go down to the last minute of the last game where a goal for someone will see them safe and someone else relegated. It just has that feeling but anyway I hope it's not us.
A good day, a vital day and let's hope for our sake that it's a turning point for the rest of the season. Well done Brewers!!

I know what you mean Annable, almost like it would be better playing them away

That's a good point about playing away. Maybe there is less pressure/ expectation. Was at the game and Stevenage started well knocking it around with some purpose and your thinking here we go. Then much of the first half was pretty forgettable until we go and grab a goal. It was hard to see from down the other end (I thought Hughes had scored) but they all count and now we had something to cling to. Second half starts and 'Fatty' had obviously given his team a rocket up the arse and Crocombe makes some fantastic saves to keep it at 0-1. We really struggled to get out of our own half, even with the sending off (which I didn't see) and them down to 10 men. Problem is we don't have the wing backs who can get us forward effectively when we play 3 CB's. Moon is a CB filing in at RB. For our second goal I saw Hughes speak to the bench (Gary Mills I think) and the training ground move worked perfectly, what a goal and time to score. We saw out the game pretty comfortably tbh, as the second goal knocked the stuffing out of Stevenage and I felt with a bit more luck we could have got a third. All the while Exeter are doing the business. Carayol was brilliant for 15 minutes on the left wing taking people on and using his experience well, keeping the ball up the right end of the pitch. Hugill too and Gilligan deserve a mention for getting stuck in. It was shocking that the tackle on Hugill, when seemingly through on goal, went unpunished by the ref. Terrible decision. Not sure why Powell was playing mainly on the right as when he found himself on the left he was effective. Would like to see him utilised in that 'Jack Grealish' position. I thought Patersons subs worked, yes some were enforced. The fans were great singing throughout and nice moment at the end all the players applauding the fans and Pato doing his Jurgen Klopp. We need to make an atmosphere like that inside the Pirelli instead of the negative stuff. The ground itself is tidy with good views of the action and standing along one side for the home fans (like the pop side but bigger) creates some atmosphere in an otherwise nondescript stadium (bit like Stevenage itself, a 1960's new town concrete hell hole). Worse toilets I have ever seen though (or rather smelt) and an announcer who asks fans behind the home end to be careful of flying balls in the warm up shot practice, but b3llocks to the away fans at the other end lol.

I watched the game om iFollow yesterday. Thought it was very much typical of the few victories we’ve had this season. We defend resolutely, concede possession, rarely create, or threaten the opposition, put long balls into the box from set pieces and yesterday just get that all important break. Hughes got his head to one of them, it hit Helm square on the shoulder and found its way into the net!
Absolutely brilliant 3 points but we still need those sort of breaks to get us out of this and I can't say I'm confident because we just do not create chances and in turn don't score goals.
Anyway time to drop all the moaning about formations, 5 at the back, 3 at the back, Deji, the manager and so on and just get behind everybody. We may just get out of this.

Much needed 3 points giving us hope and something still to fight for
Watched the game on I follow and I really thought we rode our luck in the 1st half. I’m definitely not a fan of MP’s sit back 1st half tactics in the hope our opposition do not score, such a waist of valuable game time imo especially if we do concede. 2nd half was better although they had 10 men so…. All the subs did very well and I thought Seddon helped calm us down and actually got his foot on the ball and passed to a black shirt. Still don’t think Powell and Helm should be on together as Powell was chasing shadows at times annd should have been booked very early on, Helm looses the ball too cheaply. Just feel in our current situation I do prefer Deji and Harper in midfield as they put a shift in and actually win the ball. Crocombe was back to his best and Hamer’s finish was fantastic.
The game plan did work out just, however we may need a different approach at home on Tuesday. Hopefully MP will allow the team to go out and play from the off!!!
