One point below us with a game in hand... Form similar to ours, lost to Cheltenham and Wimbledon put 5 past Accrington, beat the Owls at Hillsborough and drew with Wycombe. Their second visit to the Pirelli, the first back in August, when after that injury time Mousinho og equaliser, they put us out of the League Cup on penalties.

Very enjoyable match that last meeting, even losing on pens I went home feeling well entertained. Different of course for league games, hope for another good performance and all the league points this time.

Two changes from Fleetwood. Bostwick and Hemmings in for Taylor and Jebbison.
Lucas Akins makes his 300th football league appearance for the Brewers this afternoon.

Anyone know where Leak is? Not a clue. Assume he’s injured as the bench apart from the GK is four CMs, a winger and a striker. No Patrick again…

No understating but utterly horrific so far. Blake-Tracy is garbage.
7 defenders on the pitch and we still are being torn to shreds at the back.

First game I've been to for a while...
Not very good, hoped we'd get some wind in the sails when we scored but that hope quickly vanished.
Stood in pop side and some very angry man decided to scream inane rubbish for the entirety of the second half...

Well Blake-Tracy had a nightmare today, although Borthwick-Jackson could have covered him more effectively, and both were exchanging words as they went off for half time. Did anyone have a good game? For as much as Burton were poor you have to raise your hat to a very decent Oxford performance.

Yep, Oxford looked like a good side. Their Midfield was strong and Taylor and Holland were dangerous up front
We were pretty awful
FBT had a nightmare
Quite a few of the others were well off the pace
Let’s hope we have a rethink for the Wigan game. Too many players playing not in their best position eg oshilaja is better at the back than in midfield and a few that aren’t getting a game for unknown reasons who probably should be in the team, eg Leak.

Jimmy has said in his post match that he possibly got it wrong and Taylor should’ve started. www.burtonalbionfc.co.uk/news/2021/october/2310-verdict/If Taylor starts then Deji remains at CB and Bostwick probably starts in place of FBT who, to be fair to him, isn’t a CB. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though. If FBT doesn’t make a mistake in the first minute it’s a different game. Even if they still dominate we don’t end up chasing the game from the off and everyone settles. Every day is a school day. We live, we learn, we move on.

Tough day at the office today! To concede so early was a disaster. Jimmy did say something like we must try and stop them playing and not give them the ball easily. How is that going to happen with Bostwick in the team doing his usual hoof and hope play. Every interception and clearance is a stretch for him and along side Shaugnessy we have no pace. Ok yes you need to get rid sometimes but every time including many headed clearances that should have been directed to one of our players the ball just went back to Oxford, then they just re grouped and retained the ball and came again.... Garrett was brilliant today and I don’t think their keeper or many others in this league would have pulled off those saves he did today. I actually enjoyed watching Oxford especially 2nd half with Brannagan, Sykes, Henry and Holland plus others, looking very good players and running the show.
Just glad we have got the points we have already or I think on actual play, we may be a bit more concerned.
COYB 🤠

Two positive notes were Garratt's performance and Jimmy admitting after the game he got it wrong. Everything else was hugely in the negative. We looked like strangers, square pegs in round holes not understanding the formation or tactics. Oxford had a mifield with midfield players, we had a side with only 3 attacking players and bypassed midfield. That meant Oxford dominated the midfield and the game. We made error after error and managed one shanked effort on target in 90 minutes. We got off lightly today in my huble opinion. Without shaming them by name there are some players who appear to be past it and some who are not up to this level, many playing in positions they can't play. I really think Jimmy needs to utilise the players available in the positions they play and be less negative in our approach. Lastly i can not fathom why Ryan Leak does not start, he has impressed me every time in have seen him, does not make costly errors and gets the ball down and plays it to a team mate. I think he can consider himself very unlucky not to be starting games. Not sure what has happened to Michael Bostwick, he looks a shadow of his former self.

I was really looking forward to this one. Back to back wins, on the edge of the play offs, a home game against a team below us, good away following (3400 crowd) surely we’re going to go all out to win the 3 points and get in those top positions.
I took my seat and looked at the BBC line ups, I see a 3-4-1-2 line up and I just despair. This is Jimmy at his worse. We’re playing effectively a back 7 of central defenders and full backs. We’re going to set up not to lose, sit deep, concede possession, and hit the long balls.
I looked at the bench Taylor, Powell, Jebbison, Smith, Lakin. These are all good players. Some are on good long contracts and have come here to play football.
We kicked off, passed it back 30 yards, belted the ball down the left side, they swept it up, counter attacked, 1 nil after 40 seconds. From then on it was dire. There was no midfield and no attacking threat. We made it very easy for Oxford to look a good side. I couldn’t see what the plan was nor the tactics.
I’m not convinced the players did and nor did they seem to buy into it from some of the glares across to the bench.
I want JFH to do well here and leave a legacy of success. I don’t expect promotion, far from it but some decent games, football played in the right way, continue to establish us in the EFL and grow the fan base.
This week the dirtiest team in the division table was published (Google it) and we were positioned 23rd and got 3 more yellows today plus a shedload of fouls.
We can be so much better. Come on JFH sort it!
Our keeper was brilliant today. Top drawer.

Firstly, I have to say that Oxford are a very well drilled and talented side who have been together for a few years and reached the play offs in the last two campaigns. They completely outplayed us from start to finish and it was a relief to only lose 3-1 as in reality it could have been anything. When playing a team like Oxford who beat us 5-1 and 4-0 in last seasons league games the last thing you want to do is give them a helping hand and boy did we do that.
Fraser Blake-Tracey, well what can you say. A woeful piece of play after 45 seconds allowing one of the leagues most lethal strikers a clear run on goal. 1-0 down in th first minute. As if they needed any encouragement. To be honest after that he had the look of a player who did not want to be out there and hid for the rest of the half. We all want these new signings to be decent and fit in but I think it will need an injury crisis of catastrophic proportions for him to be anywhere near the starting eleven again. Really JFH should have had him off after 20 minutes. 43 minutes and another goal from down his side and it's really game over.
Second half again was pretty much one way traffic and when we scored with 10 minutes to go with what looked like a shanked shot(they all count!) you did wonder whether we might nick an improbable draw. Not to be with a mix up at the back giving them a penalty. Definitely game over.
Today is a definite reality check and shows us that there are some superior teams in this league to us and hard as it may seem tonight we have to accept that we are still a work in progress and you hope that the management and players learn from this. Finally, I agree with the comments about Ryan Leak. Start of the season he looked a real find and somebody who was future captain material but now can't get in the 18. Does Jimmy know best? Most of the time, yes, but on this one in my opinion no. Get him back in please.
Wigan next week so doesn't get any easier.

Still sitting comfortably in the table, sometimes you go home thinking what could have been. Had some of the poorer performances been better there's no reason why we could have been challenging for top two at this stage. Not that far off now TBH but we need a little winning streak, not 2 on the bounce then 3 duff ones etc. Can't really complain, it's just annoying that Jimmy messed up yesterday (admittedly) we all knew that after a few minutes. As said by others, can't knock Oxford they played very well exploited us perfectly and just kept going at us.

To be fair Sunderland did the same in the first half a couple of months ago but just couldn’t score. Their biggest chance came by virtue of a mistake by Lucas when he was the last man, misjudged a ball to McGeady and Garratt bailed us out which he did quite frequently that night. Garratt is exceptionally close to O’Connor for me at the minute as an early front runner for player of the season. I hope Andy Quy’s departure doesn’t impact him at all. I wonder how much we’re missing Hayden Carter in the back four. He played every game under Jimmy last season where we conceded 23 in 24 games. We’ve let in 19 in 15 this season. Apparently he’s out of favour at Blackburn despite a good start to the season. What a waste…
