We need to start playing & keeping players in their best positions.
Oshilaja is a centre half, not a defensive midfielder (yes he can do a job there), play him at the back alongside either Shaughnessy or the annoyingly out of favour Leak and we'll be a lot better defensively. Bostwick is a slow, old, clumsy liability.
We have serious issues at left back that's for sure, Brayford has been a much bigger loss than we'd thought he'd be now that we don't have Hamer there. Both Borthwick-Jackson and even more so Blake-Tracy have been horrific so far, both look much below League One standard.
We don't score many so we need to make sure we're not conceding ridiculous self inflicted goals 30 seconds into a game.
I hate to say this, because its something that Clough needlessly did many times, but if needs be, put either put Akins to right back for a while, or push O'Connor over to his natural left back position and re-shuffle the midfield.

@fred i think you are right
Assuming we are going 3-5-2 and that everyone apart from brayford is fit then i think it needs to be
Shaunessy, oshilaja, leak
Hamer back over to left side, which leaves a problem at right wing back which maybe Akins is a better round peg in a square hole than CBJ or FBT
Mancienne, O;Connor and Lakin in midfield for me
Jebbison and Chapman as forwards
Easy on paper!

I agree Bancroft.
I think we've got a little bit of an issue now with our squad size, we've not got many injuries now compared to say 6 weeks back, and I get the feeling that Jimmy feels he's GOT to rotate rather than keep a strong settled side.
I mean just look at the players not even involved yesterday:
O'Hara Leak Patrick Rowe Maddox Morris Amadi-Holloway
Then you've got Powell who didn't get off the bench, Brayford/Moult who will be back in about 8 weeks etc. And Wallace.
We've got too many players. Saying that we are about 3 good players off being a genuine play off threat, IF we play our strongest side.

Blimey I’d forgotten about Maddox and Morris.
Feels like we have a problem with our formation, and whichever of 442 or 352 brings a problem
352 means we have a problem at left wing back
442 is a problem with left and right midfield. (Smith hasn’t pulled up any trees this year and it means playing Lucas/chapman/Lakin out of position a bit)
Needs a bit of a rethink from JFH to find the right combo, with players in their natural positions

It's a tough one, I mean you'd think when everyone was fully fit it'd be easy to pick a strongest 11 but I've honest no idea.
On paper, for example, you'd think Moult would've probably been our first choice striker this season, but he's been injured now for pretty much 2 and a half years, his last competitive game was in August 2019, he's expected back around New Year. IMO we shouldn't have signed him on a 2 year deal, madness given his injury record. Saying that Hemmings and Jebbison haven't done much this season so far, so maybe IF he can get fit he might be the striker we need.
I always like 3 at the back, if the three at the back are actually centre halves and not midfielders being played out of the position, but at the minute we don't have the personnel to play that with our wing back issues. The same goes if we play a back four, who do we play at left back?
This is the best I can think of at the minute.
----------------------Garratt--------------------
---------Shaughnessy---Leak----Oshilaja----------
Akins-------------------------------------O'Connor
--------Mancienne-------------Taylor-------------
----Chapman--------------------------Powell------
-------------------Hemmings----------------------
A strong back three, plenty of energy down the wings with Akins and O'Connor, a well protected midfield with Mancienne and Taylor charging around, and give freedom to 2 playmakers in Chapman and Powell to create chances for Hemmings, or Jebbison. Only having 1 creative player in the 11 puts too much pressure on said player. I know Powell will likely be leaving, but he does have something about him as long as he isn't forced to backtrack. I haven't seen enough of Maddox to know exactly what he's about.

I had forgotten about Wallace - he’s played the troublesome left back role on occasions I believe and always does a sound job.

I actually forgot about Hamer. I'd have him in there but not sure where.
Possibly at left wing back and then push O'Connor into midfield ahead of Taylor.
Even though he's right footed he did a much better job over there than our two 'proper' left backs. Never felt so exposed and vulnerable on that side.
Long term, given Brayford is most probably coming towards the end of his time with us, he is our long term right back.

It feels like Jimmy and Dino have a jigsaw pussle but don't have all the right peices for the right jigsaw at present.
