OMG!! I can't believe we're letting Deano go and signing this guy! "BURTON Albion have signed former Derby County goalkeeper Stephen Bywater until the end of the season, subject to international clearance. Bywater rejoins his former manager at the iPro Stadium, Nigel Clough, as well as goalkeeping coach Martin Taylor. Bywater will look to challenge Brewers No 1 Jon McLaughlin for a starting role.! As soon as I saw his name mentioned it brought back one item of news I remembered from his Derby Co days.
Nige must have been having a good look at him during those 10 days.

Fine.

Happy with us signing experienced back up. Lyness deserves to be no.1 for a club and play every week but unfortunately for him had the best keeper in the league to compete with here.

Good move for me...Mathews should be playing regularly and Lyness always left me a bit nervous to be honest.
Two good keepers...sorry...one good, one brilliant!

Agree with the nervousness, don't think either are brilliant. But still, good luck to them and should Bywater be needed, He has recent similar experience.

He's played for Nigel in the past. So he knows him inside out.
So that's a solid and safe signing.
Which is what you need in your keeper.
Mclaughlin has done great. He did have a few question marks from people on here when he started for us as well I seem to remember. But seems to have settled down very well.

Lyness 24 years old, solid keeper who kept clean sheets for a poor Blackpool side
Bywater 35 years old playing in India!!!

Lol
I like to think I know a bit about football. I'm sure you do as well
You prefer a 24 year old journeyman type keeper to a 35 year old?
Suit yourself - that's your opinion
I don't despair of that
Mclaughlin has settled in well. Solid, reliable keeper. There are many around like that. He's not a superstar but he does a solid job.
I believe keepers peak between 30 and 35?
We've signed a 35 year old as backup with Premier League Experience and a former under 21 England international
What are you worried about?
Loads of experience.
And he's coming back from a brief money earner in India to be a back up keeper.
At this stage of his career IMO he will be at least as good a back up as Lyness but probably better.
You seem to want things to go wrong under Nigel from the tone of your posts?
What's he done to you?
