Was hoping Colston may be able to comment on the powell tears? My problem is I miss all the immediate after-match stuff as I've got my head down typing as soon as the whistle goes... so I'm afraid I didn't see it.

The only stats I believe is the 2 to us the nil to them. Yep the stats say we only had 27% possession, I'll take that anytime with a win👍 No back passing, more intent when we got the ball, hey didn't think I'd say this, even Bennett looked better and interested this match. Nice touch by the MP and GM to acknowledge the fans at the end. I think Joe was overcome with emotion with the hard fought win, like me.

Great win today. Confidence coming back as the shackles are taken off. Hard fought, and luck was rode but we earned that. If we can win Tuesday then I’m confident we will stay up.

Yep, Mason was more influential today, he was played in a more central role, instead of out wide. In Powell and Helm we have goal threats from midfield, nice to see young Hugill and Mark Helm get more minutes under their belt, good management from MP with the subs and their timings today.👍👍

Well Saturday away at Cambridge is a good fixture to bounce into, they are low on confidence.

What I noticed most at full time, was that most of our players had actual, genuine smiles on their faces.
I think MP is starting to get them to believe in themselves again, after all, they are League 1 players for a reason. We chose to sign every single one of them, they are here on merit and are they are good enough to win football matches playing actual football. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but in a full season of MP at the helm, if we maintain the levels we've see in the last game-and-a-half, I don't see why we couldn't be a comfortable top-half side.

Gossip on Facey about Joe Powell, tears, hugs etc. Last game for us? Bluntly, it's either that or he's had some personal issues. We'll find out soon if it's the former I'm sure.

Perhaps he was just overwhelmed to get back to playing decent football , as a team, feeling appreciated and most importantly, a clean sheet win? I hope he isn’t going anywhere, he seems to have BAFC in his heart. Modern day Stridey perhaps?

Let's hope so mate, I've met Joe on a couple of occasions, he's a smashing lad and he loves the club I'm sure. He plays with plenty of heart and passion, so it could just be a case of him being overwhelmed with the victory?

We scored totally against the run of play! Not complaining though as sometimes you have to weather the storm and just keep working. A few weeks ago we would have lost that game but I’m not complaining as the whole team stuck with it. I thought Seddon had another very good game along with Sweeney, and Bray being 1st to the ball and getting that important second goal… Hugill does cover the ground very well and Charlton were aware of his threat with three players on him at times. Charlton I thought moved the ball very well and I think whatever they did today they just weren’t winning that game. Massive 3 points for us 👏🏻 Re Joe, if he was moving on, would he have played today?

The first goal was tradeMark Helm 🙂. As soon as he picked up that ball I knew he would score. His finishing spot on. Did that a few times last season too.

Nice to see someone warming up to Bennett. Told you he isn't bad. Alot of Burton players was up for man of the match today. Can't be bad either.

A different angle about match stats:
Two games - four goals.

Great to get a win and a real battling performance again where we are back to being well organised and also bodies being put on the line which I think is down to the captain being back out on the pitch after his long absence. In truth, from an attacking perspective, I haven't seen anything different in the last 2 games particularly than what went before. Still taking long throws and free kicks from the halfway line with everybody up. Rarely comes to anything and if anything we look more like conceding from those situations than scoring ourselves. That's not a criticism of the new manager, far from it. We are currently in a position where we have such an imbalanced squad with four of our main attacking players from the start of the season having gone or in the case of Walker trying to find someone to take him. Hugill has come in and looks promising(welcome the Burton Albion young man and trying to play upfront!) but other than that we have Bennett and Carayol who struggle to complete 90 minutes(or even 60 to be fair) and Kamwa who is now injured. MP has no option but to send us out with a defensive line up and formation as we currently just don't have the players to do anything different. The next 10 days are massive for us now in trying to get some more forward thinking players in so we can have a more balanced line up and then hopefully play the way MP wants us to. As he said when he first came in, he knows what our strengths are, and yesterday showed it, but he also knows what our weaknesses are as well and that was also in evidence yesterday. Much as I love to see us win I also want to see us have more than 27% possession in a match.
Charlton are an example of many teams we've seen down recent years, a club that's seen better days and ought to be doing much, much better. Unbelievably they are now below us and we think we should get better!! Thought they looked good first half and knocked it around well and also created a few half chances. Crocombe made some good saves but we looked like we might concede at any minute especially with their forward line. We scored at the perfect time in the second half and after that they went into huffing and puffing mode and dropped off considerably. They are now 11 without a win remarkably but still have the leagues top goal scorer and their smallish following(for them) spent the second half singing sarcastically and booing. Social media makes interesting reading from their side where they all want Appleton gone. The merry go round then starts again. Also, no sign of the footballing mercenary Scott Fraser. Time for another move me thinks. Motherwell are interested. How the mighty have fallen.
As for Joe Powell and his after match reaction(which I didn't see) I did read where somebody said that after the second goal he held his hands up and looked skywards(haven't seen him do that before) which suggests he may have had some sort of close bereavement in the days leading up to the game. Don't know but you would think if there was a move lined up he wouldn't have played the 100 odd minutes yesterday playing with the whole hearted commitment he did so maybe the emotion of the last few days caught up with him. I'm sure we'll find out once the dust settles.
Anyway, we are now 8 points clear of the drop zone albeit having played 2 or 3 games more than some teams who will catch up with their games in the next few weeks. Reading home to Derby on Tuesday where Reading can close to 5 points with a win or Derby can go top. Difficult to know what to wish for!!
Great start to the MP era and enjoyed his Klopp style fist pumps at full time. COYB!!

Really looked forward to the game yesterday. Not done that for ages. At the end of the game stayed and clapped the team off. Not felt like that for ages!
It was interesting to see how we would line up. It looked like a strong back 5 who had clearly been instructed to push up quickly when not in possession. 3 across the middle and 2 up front. We will all have different takes on that but the new manager has inherited this squad. It’s got its weaknesses. He has to get on with it and you felt in the ground everybody was behind him and indeed the team.
I think most would agree that Charlton dominated the first half and could easily have been three up by half time. Our goalkeeper made two blinding saves. We defended resolutely, as we always do and got the break with a trademark Helm goal. It was against the run of play, we weren’t creating much, we didn’t look like scoring, as has been the way but we looked more organised, there was a bit more of a pattern and purpose to our game, the effort was there for all to see.
Again we got a bit of a break early doors in the second half which pushed us on a bit and the threat form Charlton diminished. I have to say the Charlton support didn’t help their team one jot. Relentlessly chanting against the manager and players. At 2-0 I’m sure most of us were glad to hear the final whistle.
Shame no game Tuesday.
