I didn't go yesterday having just chosen to take in one home friendly this year and picked the one against the Premier League club. On that basis I can't comment on the performance other than to say it was good to see Quinn and O'Toole getting minutes under the belt as they will be important players for next season. Like others I was dismayed to see Bywater getting a start but understand he also needs game time as he is back up and O'Hara was carrying a slight knock so fair enough. Not surprised at the reports on his performance and that we shipped five in a pre season game where we did the same last year against Cardiff when he appeared to not be trying but let's not get me started on that again!
I must admit I get annoyed and dismayed when so called fans criticise Nigel directly for player sales. Surely it is done jointly with Ben having the final say and done with the best interests first for the club and also the player in question. We are a club that has always worked within budget and so incoming transfer fees of between £750k and £1m if reports are to be believed for two players is good money to add to the overall pot and as long as it is reinvested in replacements then you never know we could end up stronger than when we finished the season. We cannot keep relying on the same income streams to move forward so regular incoming transfer fees going forward will benefit us as a whole.
Encouraging also to note that Nigel said he wanted three in before the start of the season which shows a level of intent. I wonder whether with the Harness money we could make a push for somebody like Tyler Walker as I can't see him getting a game at Forest? I have also seen a couple of rumours about a return for Mark Duffy but I can't see that happening although it would be amazing. Having said that stranger things have happened and Sheffield United appear to have signed a number of new players in his position so maybe he will leave but surely there would be others head of us.
Let's see what the next couple of weeks bring and hopefully we will be in good shape for the start of the season. COYB!!!
