Cloughie not happy with Murphy's injury . 12 stitches in his leg and no booking for the player who did it .

Proud of the lads and Nigel - we pushed Villa all the way and deserved more quite frankly. For those who didn’t go I thought being there for Jacob Davenport’s debut was worth the £30 ticket alone, what a good player and clever signing the lad looks and his passing style transformed us into a much better side. Looking to build from the back with a passing style that gave Villa a real run for their money. We were stretched with injuries and sad to hear about Luke needing 12 stitches but played ever so well. Liam Boyce coming on was an unexpected bonus and he looked a good player too. The negs on here and Facebook won’t like today one bit.

Not seen any negativity from any fans whatsoever today (Facebook included), only positive messages. Davenport + Boyce made it worthwhile for me... Not sure how we didn't score with one of the three opportunities we had Oh... and the own goal is hilarious ( www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/11235465/aston-villa-3-2-burton )

Davenport was fantastic today. Cant wait to see him play with jod sbarra. It was a superb performance and if we hadnt lost tom and big ben i think we would have got a draw at least. We woulx not havd conceded the 2nd on the back stick if tom was on the pitch or the 3rd if ben was on the field. Lots of positives witn liam netting. Cant wait to see him with benty. We deserved something today well Played the brewers

Sounds like the new boys (Boyce included) are bringing with them an air of positivity. Potentially we now have a strikeforce that can help keep us in this league. It aint over yet.

I spoke to 4 Villa fans at the end of the game and said 'I was pleased with how Davenport played for us'
They said 'Who was that?'
Dopes. Good to know they go to the games and don't watch the game. He was better than most of their team!

It is not often you take positives from a defeat but it certainly sounds that way today. You don't mind so much as long as everyone has put a shift in. Hope the injuries are not too bad.

As if being amongst a crowd of 33000 at Villa Park wasn't enough to make me feel I have entered a parallel universe we then get Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi on the pitch at half time. Good job Ozzie wasn't there to join them or I really would have turned paranoid.

Wow! What a transformation brought about mainly by one player, Jacob Davenport. Those that weren't there maybe wondering how on earth we managed 53% possession against the mighty Aston Villa. The answer is simple, Davenport went and took the ball off our back four at every opportunity to prevent them from having to lump it and then he made himself available virtually every time we were in possession. Unbelievable performance for an 18 year old playing his first match.
Looking back on the 90 minutes I think we lost that game in the first half hour. We had 3 extremely presentable chances, one for Dyer and two for Atkins, which if one or two of them go in it puts Villa on the back foot. I am sure that Bent and Boyce would have tucked them away. We then have to make the reshuffle due to Tom F's injury and Tom N is caught out at right back and they score. Again he was caught out for the second at the back post. However we fought back tremendously and it was great to see Davenport pulling the strings and Boyce come on and score as well as doing some nice lay offs.
I have been very critical of the style of play this season but credit where it's due, today was 100% better and Nigel should be praised for his recruitment and use of young Mr Davenport. He will be an asset for the rest of the season and if Bent can get fit I think we will create chances for him to score.
Moral victory today and an enjoyable afternoon even in defeat.

A comprehensive and very accurate report there from Annable - I felt exactly the same that it was incredible what one player could do for us. Davenport’s own contribution was magnificent but his presence brought about an even bigger transformation and we became a lovely passing team again. With Steve, Kyle, Ben, Brayf, and Tom looking to play it out constructively instead of lumping it. We looked a much better team and but for bad luck with injuries we may well have taken something back with us, even all 3 points. Great to see us with a goal threat from Boycey too and lovely to see him take his goal with such consummate ease - we haven’t seen that all season. We have a bit of hope now.

I should have added to have enjoyed more of the ball at Villa Park against a team going for automatic promotion was remarkable. I’m sure that made so many of us proud!

Yeah, when I saw he'd been bought in as a 'Fernandinho` type of player my first thought was that he's going to be used to play the ball out from the back. And jesus did he do a good job. I just hope he has the confidence to start taking those deep free kicks that Mcfadzean was taking yesterday (one which led to a goal, I believe). My guess is he can take a mean free kick too... If you can play a ball to a players feet from 50 yards away, you can probably find the goal from a 25 yard free kick. I also imagine he'll be able to play balls through similar to Brayfords for Boyce yesterday. Very exciting. Let's see what he brings!

We will have to agree to disagree then Mikeyboy. I thought it was a totally negative interview and you thought it was upbeat,no middle ground between us is there ? You think I'm a negative poster on here ? Perhaps their is a time to be negative, facing problems--,problem solving--And a time for positivity--feel good factor. Clough in his career finds that treating players with soft gloves or a iron fist depends on their performance, We all came away from the Reading match feeling down, and being pleased with the teams performance was too much. And to say the players weren't good enough was a fact ,Villa away, no Bent--Samuelson--Buxton-Murphy .A 19 year old untried kid in central midfield. And reverting to a back 4. Barker--Boyce--Sbarra--two crocks and a kid on the bench .I always thought Villa were in control and had a 2nd gear. But to Albion's credit they worked tirelessly to close Villa down and played some good stuff, Flanagan--Turner Murphy all went off injured, the brewers back to bare bones, and still giving it a go--2-0---3-1 Villa maintaining a 2 goal cushion ,Brayford shows his class with a defence splitting pass ,And our day was complete when Boyce put it into the net, making it 3-2,with most of us hoping for a third goal .A good performance by the squad, and when Clough had something good to say. He said it

Best we’ve played for a very long time and in the end unlucky to come away with nothing. Over the moon that Boyce got on the pitch and then bagged himself a goal. Let’s hope it’s the first of many for us this season.

Got to add that Davenport was on another level and unbelievable that it was his first professional game. Even thought Akpan did well for the majority of the game but a shame that he didn’t take a shot when he had a few oppurtunties to do so. Can’t wait to see what we look like when we’ve got Bent and Boyce up front together.

Boyce’s goal was proper striker stuff - keep going even if there appears to be nothing on and then confidently nipping it in with one touch. Looks like a championship quality Christian Moore. Or maybe Daryl Clare. Either way, great signing by SNC and team.
