It was a harsh penalty award, Gale seemed to go down in stages, seen it before from him. Anyways it's over, on to Sat, won't cry over losing tonight. This is the point I made last night. The officials made a pigs ear of the situation but ultimately it wasn't a penalty and Gayle dived so in a round about way justice was served. Keith Stroud was the ref when we beat Wolves at the Pirelli and gave them a ridiculous penalty so he's got previous or at least his crack team of officials have. Can't see the game having to be replayed if Newcastle hadn't won though. Sets a dangerous precedent for when officials mis-apply the laws although if we'd have got a point and stayed up by a point then it would have been interesting.

I've looked into it a bit more There is a precedent apparently. From an England under 19s match in a tournament in 2015. Same decision where a penalty was disallowed for encroachment and the game was replayed from the penalty and with the same time remaining That was a tournament though and they only had to bring them back for 2 minutes of play They also insisted the players on the pitch were same ones at time penalty was disallowed Would be very hard to replay and replicate that for this game and with the time taken to re-arrange a game of this level But wouldn't have wanted it hanging over us whilst they decided tbh

Including our match there's at least three other dodgy refs decisions or talking points I see on Sky sports today. The Chelsea v city match and Saints v Palace. The latter I think Allardyce will be in trouble for remarks made.
Difficult job but blatantly obvious stuff just being missed.

Wow I said, The ref would be under pressure from 48 thousand screaming Geordies, and he gave a soft penalty to them. But then the crème le crème. He disallows the goal for encroaching, and gives Burton a free kick--futuristic thinking, if a side try's to take advantage, by encroaching, then a free kick to be awarded to the opposition, common sense ,but not the rule, the man is ahead of his time. Still it fired the toon army up, And gave, the whole place a lift. For our Faithfull ,St james park was rocking, and their team. A small town club Burton Albion fc Left a legacy and a memory for all, What a moment for our away supporters, to be part of a absorbing contest. And a memory to last forever, cherrish a very special programme, Well done long journey but a historic event in Burtons history
