We're back at home. Yay. Hopefully we can sweep the Leeds result (but not performance) under the carpet and get our heads up like we did vs Blues. I think we stand a good chance, BUT Barnsley are a very good side with two of the most formidable attackers from last year's league 1 - Armstrong (Coventry - boo) and Bradshaw (Walsall - boo). Barnsley have been better away from home than at home. Another worry. This will be tough. We got a 0-0 at home vs them last year, I'd prefer a win this season though. COYB

Good thread.
I am a tad fearful of this one, the lack of points from away games heaps pressure on the home matches. This is the first home game this season where I think there is a bit of pressure to win.

This is the first home game this season where I think there is a bit of pressure to win. Agreed. We're currently almost solely relying on home points to keep us up. So far it's worked. But not sure how long it can continue. Having said that - I think our away form will pick up soon. We have been somewhat unlucky to not get a win.

Barnsley a club we identify with coming from div 1,and in this league of giants, and with our home record, A win should be on the cards. Problem -----Barnsley have a 24,000 seater stadium, played in the premier league, and stood by Johnson last season, when things looked bad. The club recovered even when Johnson left for Bristol city, and won the playoffs.A hard working side with a sting in the tail. Hammill--Houriane---Winnall---Bradshaw--Armstrong,,. Their away record is fine--So a home win should not be expected, going for a draw on this one

We are a force to be reckoned with at home, a few decent teams have already fallen at the Pirelli. Chins up, a win for me.

Both squads have improved since last season and Barnsley look more than capable of staying up as well. No doubt they've been able to attract a couple of quality loan signings again due to the Stones cash but I personally think our rebuilding has been more intensive and our summer signings been more impressive than theirs. They spent a few quid by their standards on Bradshaw and the lad from QPR whose name I can't remember.
I thought they were a very decent side last season but also thought we did enough to beat them at our place. Would be lovely to see O'Grady get off the mark against his old side, I'd expect him to get a decent reception having done quite well there. His Barnsley form and goals were what got him his "big money" move to Brighton in the first place.
If our front 6 are all fit we'll beat them. If any of Akins, Ward, O'Grady or Dyer are out we might struggle. Bradshaw and Armstrong up front will be a real test and I'd say we're going to have to score more than one to win the game. The fact Barnsley look to play it out from the back might well fit into our hands nicely, with Wardy and Chris not giving them a minutes peace I'd expect at least one clear cut chance will come from them overplaying.
Looking forward to it, wrapping up with the gloves and scarf coming out but as always this season, looking forward to us having a good go at them and watching a decent game between two honset sides.

Morning everyone, ready for the game. Got a few extra folk with me today to swell the crowd, here's hoping for a good one from us to lure them back for future games. Just one doubt, Jamie Ward a key player now, hope he's fit. Have a good day, COYB!

Another game we dominated yet we come away disappointed.
Flanagan had the best two chances, one a sitter and one where the keeper made a great save. I actually thought he played ok after he came on.
Palmer was my man of the match and of the 13 fouls they committed, I'm guessing 10 or so we're on him. Ben Turner though should be sending the yellow he got to Matt, one for the team.

Strange sub for Ward but now I've heard the logic in that it worked out OK. How we didn't come away today with three points baffling, enough chances for 3-4 games.

There are only two talking points for me - Barnsley's clean sheet and Jamie Ward's replacement.
I dunno what to say about the 'nil' goals. The radio said the keeper made a couple of great saves but I can't see where. He dived well to save O'Grady's shot but the rest was....well...I dunno. What an amazing performance - I was convinced Barnsley (Winnall) would score at the end so I was relieved to walk out with 0-0. We were scoring for fun at the start of the season. It'll come back...
Flanagan. Poor bloke. Nigel fell out with Shane and then Bev? I reckon he's fallen out with Tom the most. Replacing Shane, taking (sorry, being given) Phil's number, then coming on down the wing instead of the obvious choice today. He did OK - good on him. We should all get behind the poor lad. I don't think Kyle or Ben (our other centre halves) could have done much better. If I was Tom, I'd feel like crying every time I walked onto the pitch. What next game. Play him goal?
Anyway - in Nigel we trust. 4 points above The R Zone. Coulda been six...

The gist being that he wanted to get the next best striker up front who was most likely to score goals. Bev not scored since Feb in the League. He didn't imply it was a straightforward decision. Overall apart from the goal not coming it seemed to work ok to me. The product from the right hand side was good and we dominated creating a shed load of chances again. He also thought Brayford was the best player on the pitch and despite me going for Palmer, I can understand that, he was class.

Yes what he ^^^ said on the sub for Ward, I understand now but didn't whilst watching the game. You would have thought Bev's needs more of a go at it though than just a few minutes. That chance he had came off the keepers head and over the bar I heard on the radio.
A few giving Flanagan some stick behind us again, he doesn't need that.

Before Ward's injury we had also been cut to shreds down our right flank on a couple of occasions, through Barnsley's crisp and inductive passing getting them in the hole behind Lucas. I think that may have influenced Nigel too - adding the more defensive minded Tom to the mix. We did begin to dominate shortly afterwards. As always Nigel was a couple of steps ahead of most of us in the thought process I'd say.

Mainly because it wasn't a like for like move and was negative. I was wrong though. The fans booed him which visibly knocked his confidence, he looked like a lost child for 15 minutes or so. Once he grew into the game, and got a cheer from the fans and it changed his attitude a lot. He put in good crosses (most the time), He had our best opportunities, one he should have scored the other he was unlucky not to score. But his positioning was good. Let's get his confidence up - and I'm sure his performances will follow. We battered them. Happens sometimes. Yet another game we deserved to win. Funny, with some luck we would be in the play offs!
