After last weeks euphoria this brought us back to reality. They didn't trouble us in the first half; did McLaughlin have a save to make? They got their equaliser from a scrambled corner and we went for a winner losing our shape, but they worked an excellent breakaway to go home with the points. Oh well, that's the beauty of live football; you think its plain sailing and it comes up and kicks you where it hurts.

I guess it's more frustration. Looks like the ref was very poor from a lot of the comments. I trust this is a minor blip on what has so far been a golden Road. The team who's joint top with us has played two more games then us. Fear not gents. The Brewer's will be fine .

I don't see that as a foul on Jon Mc btw. Should have been punching that one.

I'd like to know......... probably never will........but can guess........what Tom Naylor said to Mr Salisbury after he'd failed to blow his whistle for yet another blatantly obvious foul by a Shrews player. It must have been colourful and said with feeling as it resulted in a booking. I'd like Mr Salisbury to know (but I suppose he never will and if he did he wouldn't care too much) ........that I for one (and I'm sure there will be many others) agree wholeheartedly with Tom.
I thought our lads stood up pretty well on the whole to the cheating/physical (choose your word) Shrews. They battled on and didn't lose their cool. Clearly the Shrews wanted it and seemed prepared to do most anything to not lose. Someone said Duffy and Nasser were not given enough of the ball. I don't know, I thought they saw a fair amount of it but couldn't seem to do as much with it as they usually do, partly due to the quality/physicality of the defending, I'm sure. This said, we should have defended the draw better in the final few minutes. There's no real excuse for leaving yourselves light at the back and giving away the point at that stage of the game.
On to the Posh on Tuesday then......They say these things even out over the season........but I shall be looking out for Mr Salisbury in the future and thinking twice before renewing my acquaintance with him. He was awful yesterday. And his mates were no better. He let Shrewsbury get away with too much from the kick-off and even if he had wanted to (and there was no evidence that he did) it was always going to be difficult for him to get things back under control again once he'd let so much go early doors....

It was Mr Salisbury who disallowed a perfectly good equaliser for Peterborough earlier in the season. An apology followed for that. It is difficult to fathom who sanctioned his appointment for this game. It must have been on his mind. He was bobbins.

The thing is this is League 1 football and the opposition will do anything in their power to get a result
That includes being physical, cheating, playing the ref etc.
It's part of football at this level and we aren't going to get promoted by playing matches full of free flowing football all season
Surprised we've not faced far more of this to date tbh

Well were do we start,All week we talk about complacency,Burton also at the moment being a scalp, and shrewsbury, just scrapping for a draw at any cost. The manager spoke well hard work n effort a must, the players spoke well of the game and the scrap in front of them,so our guard was up. Shrewsbury a team in crisis,6 new signings in 8 out.--Whitbread--A player spent the last 3 years injured,Wallace --never played a full game for Sheff Utd,spent the last 2 years in the treatment room,Wellens,--A talent but not as mobile or as fit as when in his prime,That's 3 of their team. A mixture of backs to the wall .and a ref who admired effort,in the underdogs, and only 3000,shouting abuse ,and very little t-v coverage The first goal was a typical scramble and they got the rub of the green,The luck they needed to get any thing out of the game, The second made a absolute laughing stock of the our team a clearance down the wing, our defender going across to stop his progress,The Shrewsbury, lad putting the ball into the middle ,--And their we have it 3 of the back 4 missing,1 holding midfielder missing that's 4 players gone walkabouts. The squad should have all week to learn the word gullible, and watch their poor show ,and learn about complacency, live it not talk about it, The Manager said its a learning curve, Rubbish These are not teenagers.but players of experience, and will have suffered the danger of complacency, even in amaeture football,.,clough has experienced it at Derby and Sheff ,so is a expert. But alas we move on ,Peterborough on tues so no time to reflect. A game where a draw is a good result and a loss possible,And now we are into the top six mix The good news is if we reach the playoffs it as been a great season div 1 were here to stay.

Trevor, with respect you are talking rubbish. no sensible supporter really imagines that we can win every game. Its going to be a tough match on tuesday but this team of ours relishes those types of matches. If it was complacency yesterday [ rather than a bad day at the office which is what i think], then we will not be falling into that trap on tuesday. Have faith and stop talking like a supporter of the championship side just up the road. They are all doom and gloom because they have not won one or two games that they expected to. This is football. you win some , you lose some. we have the same points as the top of the table and two games in hand.
Dont stop believing and keep on supporting the lads. we are not going to stay in div 1 we are going up!!

We absolutely robbed the points at their place so maybe it's karma. I dunno. It's football. Shit happens.
FWIW I think Tom Naylor called the referee a person of questionable parentage. Those words. Exactly.

Twas coming sooner or later. Everyone drops points, inevitable. We have set our own standards and its how you respond to defeat that is the real measure of a great side.
Roll on Tuesday.

A different view... Nigel Clough bemoaned his side's 2-1 defeat to Shrewsbury Town as a "missed opportunity" "These are the ones where everybody turns up and thinks, when you get the first goal, that's another three points. - Was it a lack of cutting edge that cost the Brewers, in the end? "Yeah, and just a couple of poor decisions on the ball, I thought. We made better decisions last week in the second half (against Coventry City), and generally speaking here we've not done that. Clough wanted to see more from his two wingers on the day as well, with Mark Duffy and Nasser El Khayati both struggling to make their usual impact. Both were guilty of overplaying at times, and running into defenders when simpler passes were available. Those moments led to frustration in the stands. "We had enough chances and opportunities," Clough said of the match. "I don't think Mark and Nasser were particularly good,..."
