The final comment from the Mail blog At Full time
16:53 FULL TIME: FLEETWOOD TOWN 4 - 0 BURTON ALBION Well. What else can you say? That second half was shocking - utterly shocking. Albion totally the architects of their own downfall

I know I'm not there however 1-0 could be against the run of play but certainly not 4-0. This is a disastrous result after last week's poor performance at Walsall. More importantly we haven't scored a goal ourselves for four games now and then this week the defence goes awol? Sorry to sound so gloomy, especially as we're still equal on points to the top two but the last two weeks have exposed some fundamental weaknesses. I suppose at least we've got 25 points in the bag so far, so same again would put us safe! It's not a disaster League 1 is a step up from League 2 ,it just highlights the need for a real goal poacher at this level to help Beavon out,who has carried the forward line by himself.you can make as many chances as you like but if nobody takes them, then a result like this was always going to happen. Let's hope a few are shipped out to make money available for a new striker!

Not good today but as we all know this highlights our problem of not taking our chances. Had we done so we may have been one or two up. A totally different game then. We need someone to help Bevs upfront. Anyway Onward and upward as in the main the results at the top weren't too bad for us. I expect changes on Tues whether in personnel, formation or both. But most of all,the team need to show us what they are capable of with a positive reaction and result.

Up until they scored we absolutely dominated the game but apart from Palmer hitting the bar and a short corner that actually worked (!) we never looked like scoring. They had two chances which were the best chances of the half until they scored. To be fair it was an inch perfect pass across the face of the goal that might have resulted in an own goal if any of our defenders had touched it. The difference was that they had the composure to play a pass like that. Again, any joy we had out wide ended up in a high looping cross to the back post. The second half...well, I haven't seen blind panic like that in a Burton side since Pesch was here. Even O'Connor and Mousinho looked ruffled but I think they were targeting our left hand side because that's where most of their success going forward was coming from.
I think we're dead easy to defend against at the moment. Take Beavon out the game and you'll stop us scoring. As soon as he got the ball yesterday he had two, sometimes three defenders on him. When the ball leaves his feet and goes to someone else the opposition can reset and from there on in it's pretty much plain sailing. We look absolutely petrified going forward.
Exactly what cp says...Beavon needs help. He's fighting the fight all on his own at the minute. It's a thankless task at 0-0 but when you're chasing the game it's impossible, especially when the wide players aren't even in the game. I appreciate we came from behind at Blackpool and Chesterfield but their confidence and ability to defend a lead was dismal.
We really do need to score the first goal on Tuesday night...

Always a fair assessment from Ashley and I stand by the statement I made yesterday, that this is a disastrous result in the context of us not having scored a goal since September 26th against Chesterfield and on the back of a poor performance at Walsall last week, we seem to be going downhill rapidly.
Now in the overall scheme of things, we're still up there on points with the best in the division so far, which is way above what anyone would have expected 13 games ago but revised expectations have been set.
If we can pull it around in the next two home games, then hopefully we can just put it down as a blip and move on but there are two glaring frailties to be addressed.
Firstly the fact that Beavon cannot do the job upfront on his own and secondly we have a decided left side weakness at the back, with McCrory being too easily pulled out of position and exposing us on too many occasions.
Those are the questions, it's up to Jimmy and his staff to address them quickly?

Last time we lost two on the trot we we went on a 14 game unbeaten streak (inc. one cup game win) and won a League Title in the process. Perspective please.

McCrory does seem to be the one player who hasn't made a seamless transition up a division. I wasn't there yesterday but his positioning and distribution over the last few weeks have left much to be desired. I used to look upon him as a relatively reliable player (except when he stepped up to the penalty spot!) but I've found him frustrating to watch this season.

Crewe just beat Walsall though Sooooooo They beat Barnsley, not Walsall...but they all play in red and white so I'll give you that one I do think we'll beat Crewe to be honest. Walsall and Fleetwood have an embarrassment of riches as far as strikers go. It was mentioned yesterday at the game that even though Fleetwood were near the bottom of the table they still had a decent selection of strikers who can nick a goal. All they needed was confidence and a bit of steel. Pressley has clearly given them the latter and we inadvertently gave them the former. They could even bring Jamille Matt on who, at the minute, I'd rip your arm off if you offered him to us. Crewe haven't got that. I appreciate we haven't either but I think we'll have enough to put Crewe away on Tuesday night and get Fleetwood out of our system.

johnno, my comment was a general one to the many Brewers fans who are too quick to start pointing fingers at the teams performance after a couple of disappointing results. If it was directed at you I would have quoted your comment (as you did).
But seriously, over a quarter way through the season and we're in 3rd place. I would never have placed a bet on that in July. Jimmy has a winning system. To make changes to the system and several players is not good management. If he did that though and lost the next two games what would people say then? "He shouldn't have changed a winning system!" they just need to get back to what was working. I didn't think we were that bad at Walsall, they scored a nice goal and an got an unfortunate penalty. From all accounts we owned the first half at Fleetwood except for the goal. (BTW: this magician goalscorer people want to come in is 1.hard to find and 2.usually expensive, and I hope and feel that Ben wouldn't do something daft that puts us in a financial position that most other clubs are in).
Personally, I have been having a blast over the last 43 league games. NEVER been more excited as a Brewer supporter and I can only see good things to come. Back to back promotions would be simply unbelievable, and I would absolutely love that, but I didn't think that was a real possibility 3 months ago and realistically I don't 'think' it is now although I am a lot closer to believing it is.
If we stay in League 1 that will be great, anything more is an bonus. As before, let's be loud and proud on Tuesday, but most importantly BE THERE. As has been suggested elsewhere, get your scarves up when the lads come out onto the pitch!
COYB!!!

Christ I'm awful at remembering who played who...! Gillingham came close to a 0-0 with Crewe so it'll be tough!

I appreciate that yesterday and the performance at Walsall have been disappointing but a good side doesn't become a bad side overnight. Some adjustments and tweaking are required and I trust JFH and David Oldfield to address that. We have gone up a division and the standard is higher, in the grand scheme of things yesterdays result may have been a blessing in disguise.

If we beat Fleetwood yesterday to go up to third we'd be hyped. Instead we've lost to go down to third. It's all perspective I guess, some seem to have adjusted expectations significantly (and rightly so). But perhaps were getting a little ahead of ourselves. Just like Jimmy always says, focus on the next game. Back at home at least

Agree the side just needs a slight adjustment, and I don't think this team will be to far away, dont think it's unfair to expect JFH to get a quality striker in.
