Saw this article this morning on the official website and looks like it could be an interesting one. He says: "There won’t be a signing before Rochdale but there might be someone coming in. I can’t give you the name, although it will be a big surprise if we can pull it off. "It has to be someone who is versatile, a winger, second striker, with pace. We have to look at people who are ready and who we can straight away put in, or someone who we can get ready in two or three weeks. "We are always looking and we are looking at one position we need to strengthen." I've just posted the same in the striker needed thread. No idea but it sounds good. Just had a search and not seen any names linked yet!

And not Cuvelier either - although he is liked.

'Big surprise' suggests that this would be someone who's struggling to make first team in the PL... I'd be looking at Leicester/Chelsea
Any ideas anyone?

Now that the Premier League sides have finalised their 25 man squads for the season any youngsters who have not made it into those squads will no doubt be available for loans. I agree Leicester and Chelsea are possibles, as are Liverpool, given our two loans from there last season. Also JFH made mention of a friendship with Louis Van Gaal at Man Ure over the summer so possibly one of their fringe youngsters?

Youngsters and fringe players don't equate to a 'big surprise' for me. I'm thinking an experienced player who may be interested in getting back into his own or another bigger squad or help us into the Championship.

The squads make no difference to loaning u21 players (I assume this is your definition of youngsters). U21 players aren't part of the 25 man squads.

Agreed Oxford.......assuming the player in question is under 21 which they may or may not be. At my age now 22 is still very young! Can't imagine it being a 'big' name player as they will be on good wages and we will be expected to pick up a proportion of the wages. The usual form is for the loaning club to pay roughly 40% unless JFH is an ace negotiatior to get them in for a lot less or even for free.
Who knows? It may not even happen but past experience tells me that to release something like that in the press suggests that JFH is reasonably confident of pulling the deal off. If he didn't think there was a chance of it happening I am sure he would have kept it quiet.

If we sign a class forward I would get very excited.

I must admit i would not be overly excited by a young lad who is from a premiership club. Hopefully it is someone with a lot of experience at championship level, no names come to mind though.

It sounds like it would be someone you know straight away rather than a name that has to go in to google!!

Mason Bennett isn't even in contention at Derby and has been sent out on loan to league one before. Unless he's injured (I know he was carrying an injury when he was at Bradford last season) then I wouldn't be surprised to see him come in.

Kevin Nolan is unattached and available, training with the O's. Not sure he meets Jimmys requirements description for the type of player he wants and he would be a tad pricey I would think. But it certainly would be a big surprise.

That certainly would be a big signing but weather we could afford to be paying his wages is another matter.
