That certainly would be a big signing but weather we could afford to be paying his wages is another matter. JFH has already said that the guy he is looking at would be on loan. Immediately rules Kevin Nolan out as he is unattached.

Yes. Confirmed that it would in fact have been a permanent rather than loan signing but the player has accepted another offer.

Youngsters and fringe players don't equate to a 'big surprise' for me. I'm thinking an experienced player who may be interested in getting back into his own or another bigger squad or help us into the Championship. Hopefully it is someone with a lot of experience at championship level, no names come to mind though. Kevin Nolan is unattached and available, training with the O's. Not sure he meets Jimmys requirements description for the type of player he wants and he would be a tad pricey I would think. But it certainly would be a big surprise. Guess he changed his mind then on whether it was a loan or permanent??? looks like Nolan's going to Bolton if they can pay his wages???

We obviously still have some wage budget so could still get somebody in on loan but with Zeli hopefully coming back soon and Duffy starting to click we might not need it!! Just need someone like Joachim to start hitting some form

Jimmy said he was looking for a versatile midfielder/striker??? Edit: just read another review that he is a left winger/striker. Could have been. looks like he signed for Baniyas SC yesterday.... www.transfermarkt.com/royston-drenthe/profil/spieler/35631

He also said it was a loan and then changed it to a permanent deal!! Who knows maybe Jimmy didn't want everyone to guess who he's talking to or maybe it was infact Rooney and that's why he didn't start today!!!!!

Didn't want everyone to guess....well maybe, great managers are crafty! Rooney didn't start today because he is still hungover from thinking he could possibly be a better England player than BC...

If Drenthe had signed for us it would have been off the scale. Talk about a marquee signing!
Noticed Zeli was mentioned by Brewster. Playing devils advocate here but he's on loan and not played any of the 10 competitive games during his loan spell. Is it time to start looking for an alternative? Just putting it out there...

Think he just hasn't recovered from an injury as quick as he should of. Problem is he is injury prone so maybe we do look elsewhere.

Could or would we afford Drenthe? Transfermrkt values him at 1.5M Euros??? Agree, I like Zeli but far too injury prone for me.... hamstring with us when on loan, knee with Norwich.... knee with us... time to move on for me...
