This should bring some varied answers ! Over the years I have seen some very talented footballers in an Albion shirt, the best for me being Ian Storey Moore the ex Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and England winger. He may have had to give up playing league football due to an injury which today could have been treated, and we may have been in the Southern League Premier division when he played but he was an absolute class player. He later went on to become a very good manager for the club. "Mugsy" as he was known to his team mates stated that his greatest disappointment in football was Albions defeat in the 1974/75 FA Trophy semi-final second leg and missing out on playing for the club at Wembley.
I'm sure you all have your favourites, break it down to non-league and football league if you want, this is just for a bit of fun in the summer break.

One or two players come to mind, who were young and snapped up because they were so good. They therefore didn't play many games for us really. Ian Hutchinson who I believe went to Chelsea but unfortunately died at a very young age. Richard Jobson who was similarly short lived at the Albion. Can't remember where he went, but spent quite a few seasons with Hull City. Nigel Clough brought a tremendous touch of class in the midfield towards the end of his career. However my personal favourites of years ago would have to be Richie Barker and Stan Round. In more recent times quite a few stand out. The magnificent Stridey, Webster, Maghoma and Zola on their days, and the new stars of our championship side like Beavon, Nasser, Mouseinho etc.

Gerry Carver...mid-fielder who played for us after an illustrious career with Notts County in the 1960s.

Darren Stride, no-one else comes close in my opinion. He was and always will be Mr Burton Albion. He is the only player to have played in almost every position on the pitch, including Goal Keeper. He deserves a statue as well as Cloughie. At the very least a stand named after him.

It is a good question, one that is sometimes defined by longevity and appearances over sheer talent/ability. Perhaps the best way of viewing it is talent/ability when compared to the relative opposition? i.e. Simon Redfern may not have ever got into the football league side, but gosh, at the level he played…
My two, non-League and Football League are as follows…
non-League - Nigel Clough, 300 plus games (despite having retired through injury) and in most of them streets ahead of his teammates never mind the opposition. Redfern, Stride, Corbett, Webster, Moore, Gilroy and Clare all run him close (on longevity and talent), but Clough for me.
League - Difficult, many are here today, gone tomorrow, but maybe on talent, so far, Beavon/Moushino? Always difficult to place contemporary players in a historical sense.

Best player can mean different things to different people, skill/work rate/leadership etc. but let's have a go. I cannot go back past 10 years so for me... Non-League - Stridey and Pooley League - Jacques Maghoma, he was the most naturally talented and gifted player that I have seen here.
Honourable mention to John Moushino for his influence and leadership this season

I'd have included maghoma myself but I feel he was inconsistent and went missing in too many games . Gilroy was brilliant when he could be bothered too .....

Got to agree that Barker and Round were giants for us in the Non-League game and as my avatar indicates for sheer technique I loved to see Howard Riley. Kevin Hector, Ian Storey-Moore and Nigel Clough were also exciting to watch and there wasn't much more exciting than Gilroy attacking the Bovril End in the 2nd half but maybe Phil Annable edged it as our greatest ever. In the league Maghoma could turn a game for us and this season Beavon, Mousino and Edwards have helped deliver the Championship. So Beavon for me. Richard Jobson was signed by Graham Taylor at Watford by the way.

Phil Annable, what an absolute legend he was, had he not been suspended so often Stridey would have never over hauled his appearance total! Some great choices so far from every one.

Agree with most of the non league players previously mentioned but would like to add Neil Glasser and Jake Buxton. Since being a league team, Edwards, MaCrory, Moose, SCS, Beavon! take your pick, personally I couldn't split Moose and Beavon.

Adding to the non-league days I'll add a couple of full backs - Jon Pearson and Alan Kamara. Jon made defending look easy and Alan was the John Brayford of his day. Not in the attacking sense maybe, but he'd appear out of nowhere to make a last ditch tackle.
And while I'm at it I'll add a couple of centre backs too - Alan Kurila and Ken Geelan. In a way, Alan was the Des Walker type, a real Rolls Royce of a defender, and Ken was the hard as nails type who, if you got past him once, it was your lucky day.
Get past them as a unit and you were doing well.

I have only seen the recent players.
I realise he only played cameo roles but some of the short spells of football that zeli Ishmael played that half season were incredible
He was super skilful and electric to watch those few brief spells for us
Shame for him that he is blighted by injuries
Stuff he did in short spells surpasses anything I've seen at burton
