We could double our profit this season if Ben bets on the right one!

One name in there that has enjoyed a lot of success in his managerial career to date (the odd failure too) and I feel could take up the reins and achieve promotion with this current team - Brian Laws. Another name in there that caused me to pause when I was scanning the list was that of a former manager of two of our local rivals - who's also enjoyed a fair amount of success (and the odd failure too perhaps) - but he's not out of work, he's on a 12 month rolling contract and doing quite well with assistant, Darren Caskey, managing 'Oh Jonny Shaw' inside an athletics track, on the south bank of the Tyne..... but I don't expect Ben to be looking to poach a manager from another club or pay compensation - more likely he'll be looking to give another young, and hopefully capable, guy a first management opportunity.....but I also expect him to consider giving someone a second or third chance providing he can still see the white hot light of ambition burning brightly in his eyes....!!

Slightly off thread but to me it is great shame that this all didn't happen a couple of weeks ago as i would have loved Micky adams to be manager (now at Tranmere).

Michael Johnson is currently 1/3 odds on favourite at Skybet. Every other manager in the running is 9/1 or lower.
As I said the other day, there isn't much money wagered in manager markets, so it could be the case that the odds are reacting to somebody putting £100 on him because they've seen him somewhere in Staffordshire today.
Having said that, there's a remarkable difference between his odds and those of all the other options.

Our last two managers have had some experience as assistant before taking the top job. Pesch was assistant at a club in the League of Ireland before taking the reins here, and Gaz was of course assistant to Pesch here. With that in mind, I tried to look for local assistant managers who might be looking to take a step up. The only name (or stab in the dark) I could come across was Steve Chettle who's currently at Ilkeston. And while I'm playing the guessing game I'll nominate John McGrath as his second in command.

I thought the same, about Mark Robbins (now at Scunny) The thing about Robins is I remember him being the overwhelming fans favourite to replace Pesch. Obviously we ended up with Rowett. Robins didn't get a job until the Coventry one later that year. Turned them around, got them on a roll...and buggered off to Huddersfield five months later. Could all have turned out so differently...

Chettle had crossed my mind as well
I cannot imagine why or how Michael Johnson would get the job

Chettle had crossed my mind as well I cannot imagine why or how Michael Johnson would get the job That's at least 7 or 8 you have named now. Michael Johnson has declared an interest that's all, nothing more. Why Chettle above him?

Yes but someone above said Johnson is now 1/3 odds on favourite with skybet which baffles me
I've named far more than 7 or 8!
Lol
Chettle above Johnson because he's been managing at non league level men having had decent experience at Forest managing under 18s and under 21s.
Whereas Johnson has managed purely at youth level to date. He had two games as caretaker manager alongside someone else at Notts county - can't remember who
Johnsons experience last couple of years is twice a week coaching Birmingham under 16s to best of my knowledge plus watching his own son play under 11s at Forest academy
Big difference coaching kids and stepping straight into managing a pro first team IMO
I'd be thinking next step for Johnson would be an under 21/ development team coach or first team coach
Certainly not straight into managing us
I'm not being disrespectful to him just realistic

Everyone should bet their house on MJ now!! Yes because I can't possibly see how he should be favourite for the job he will no doubt get it - lol I've looked into this There appears to be a twitter campaign from Michael Johnson fans to get him the Burton Managers job? It seemed to start when someone asked him his thoughts on the burton job - he said it was a great job at which stage he got loads of tweets saying he should go for and get the job In the past he has told BBC that he's applied for 30 full time jobs in football from youth team coach to academy manager to full time manager and only ever had 3 interviews and not been successful Some suggestions that race is an issue etc But on twitter now there is bandwagon of support that Burton should give Michael an opportunity to show what he can do etc I'm assuming many of those supporting him have also bet on him for him to be odds on favourite - several have tweeted updates each time the odds come down Absolutely no disrespect at all to Michael Johnson as I'm sure he deserves a break in football with a full time job somewhere after two years of trying but I just can't justify him being catapulted straight into our managers job?? No matter how nice a guy he is etc (Surely - we aren't in the football business to do people favours who haven't had opportunities elsewhere) Third in the League and for a manager to replace Rowett I'm hoping for someone with something more relevant on their cv than part time youth coach for last couple of years His twitter is @jonsarno

Maybe I'm just having a grumpy week (you all know why) but all this Michael Johnson hype seems to have been whipped up by Birmingham City fans in the main. What the hell is it to do with them? Their club takes our manager to sort out their mess and they think we need their advice on who to replace him with?? Arrogant and disrespectful in my book.

It's Birmingham and Derby fans on the twitter suggesting we should give him a job with the odd Burton fan joining in I feel the same as you woody We aren't a charity case And I keep saying no disrespect intended to Johnson. I'm just looking at his CV - nothing on there to suggest he's what we need in this situation Would be perfectly happy for him to come on board as some kind of coach but that would obviously be upto the next manager

Michael Johnson leads the race to become the next Burton Albion boss Michael JohnsonThe hunt for the next Burton Albion boss has got underway following the departure of Gary Rowett, who leapt up two tiers to the Championship in order to take charge of Birmingham City. The League Two high-flyers have reportedly received a lot of interest for the vacancy, however it is Birmingham ambassador Michael Johnson who has emerged as the early odds-on 4/5 favourite (Bet Victor) in the betting. Albion are believed to be keen to appoint a young, talented manager who is currently unemployed, due to the compensation cost of prizing a gaffer away from their current club. A host of well-fancied managers have subsequently been linked with the post with frontrunner Johnson, who has stated his intent for the Pirelli Stadium hot seat, seemingly fitting the above description. Next in the running is the former Brewers defender Darren Moore at 10/1, followed by the ex-Accrington Stanley boss James Beattie at 12/1, and then Gary Mills at 14/1. On the other hand Brewers caretaker manager, Mike Whitlow, has ruled himself out of the running for the permanent job, although he can still be found at 16/1 to step up to the plate. Burton, who have finished in the play-offs for the past two seasons, have enjoyed a decent start to the current crusade, with Rowett leaving the Staffordshire side up in 3rd with a tally of 28 points from 15 matches. However, after winning eight and drawing one of their opening nine games in all competitions, the Brewers have gone slightly off the boil, having lost seven of their last 10 clashes. But, despite their jittery form, they remain just two points off league leaders Luton, meaning a win at home to Plymouth on Saturday could see them top the table. www.thesackrace.com/news/29th-october-2014/michael-johnson-leads-the-race-to-become-the-next-burton-albion-boss?

I would be extremely surprised if Michael Johnson got the job to be honest, with the greatest respect to him, I don't think he has the credentials for the post at this present time. Darren Moore would be in front of him in my opinion but I'm not keen on him either for similar reasons. Due to where we stand in the league table I am not expecting a novice this time and Ben has alluded to that. Personally the only way I think a novice may get the job this time would be if someone like Lee Bell or Ian Sharps applied for the job. I think Ben's phone will be red hot to be honest and we may be encouraged by the calibre of some of the applicants. We are not 'little Burton' any more, we are 3rd in the league, have a useful squad which with a bit of tweaking could achieve automatic promotion, the club is financially sound, has great facilities and the chairman lets you get on with the job. That all adds up to a very attractive proposition for potential candidates. Ben has showed over the many years of his stewardship he is a wise judge and I have complete faith in him to appoint the right man for the job in the current situation.
