I read a Cheltenham fan on another forum say how bias he was, and they could see it clearly. “ if I was a burton fan I’d be fuming” However it’s not the referees fault we lost. No dodgy penalties or sending offs. But Christ he was inept. Worst I’ve seen this season.

I couldn't believe the foul he gave when Carayol was sandwiched by the two Cheltenham players in the 96th minute x.com/JackBAFC/status/1780499799239700871But ultimately, we were just as bad, bet the League Two ones are worse still

The referees assistants were no better, there was one when the Cheltenham player clearly put the ball out yet the throw in was given to Cheltenham. I think it was something like forty or so minutes before we got our first free kick.

Cannot blame the ref for our lose.....we are our own worst enemy. However the refs decisions were frankly more dire as the Match went on.....he was pretty inept.

After reading the link posted above I decided to Google Ben Speedie to see what other comments there are about him.
I didn't have to scroll too far for an article in the Stoke Sentinel from February last year which has the headline "Port Vale boss fuming at referee". I can't do links but it's there to see. Apparently Mr Speedie disallowed a Vale goal but instead gave them a penalty and sent off the opposing player. Vale went on to miss the penalty and lost the game.
The Vale manager that day .....Darrell Clarke.

Suppose he could've added 2 hours on and we wouldn't have scored! Exerpt from EFL site: ...All Match Officials are split into three levels - Select Group 1, Select Group 2 and the National Group. Overall I don't think the ref and officials were that bad.
No big decisions incorrect.
A few free kicks seemed to go the wrong way and one obvious throw in.
But his yellow cards looked OK to me. Popside lino got all the offsides correct and if you look back to previous games we do seem to give away a lot of free kicks. When you play with negative possession you are likely to.

Thought the referee was poor but as said not a reason for losing. Personally when there are no PL / Championship games I would ask their refs to slum it in the lower leagues to try and at least give us the occasional glimpse of a good one. That said we’d no doubt still moan if we lost.

As soon as he picked up a plastic bottle that someone (a kid I assume) in the centre of the West Stand had thrown onto the pitch, I knew he wouldn't add any more time on. Not complaining about it though, more chance of Billy Brewer being named up front on Saturday than us scoring so maybe he was pitying us

On this season's showing, there aren't many good refs. We've had a few but not many.

You can't blame the refs for any of our poor games this season, it's been all down to the players and selection of. It's been easy to blame them but the players fall way short of what's expected and to compensate make rash challenges, poor decisions to put things right. Doesn't mean to say it's all been them mind, we have had some right t@@@s this season officiating. Poor poor at last Tuesdays match, the abuse from some thrown towards the female official running the line, hope they don't give the same to their respective wife/gf, partner😪

It's all ifs and buts but if we had stayed in the FA Cup we would have had a bit more cash at our disposal in January. The season could have looked very different. On the other hand we could have still been crap.

We may well have pulled in sufficient revenue (that was what Ben said he had asked for) to avoid what happened in January and we could well now be sitting comfortably mid table. (We had been ahead of Derby a few weeks before). The disaster that is Martin Paterson may not have happened..
