You can't say what you like about your employer on social media volunteering or not. I can though because I don't have anything to do with Burton Albion except pay my money on the gate. Mr Robinson I have a bit of financial advise. Put as much money as you can, and put it on Paterson being the next Liverpool manager.

What gets me is the ‘I’m not allowed an opinion any more’ or ‘I’ve been told I’m not allowed an opinion’
No. Anybody involved in a professional sports club knows that when you sign up as either an employee or a voluntary role where you are recognised as a ‘face of the club’ that you do not post on social media personal comments that are derogatory or critical of that club or staff within it. That is not just Burton Albion. Every club has that policy.
If you want to have a controversial opinion and to voice it then professional sports media is not the arena to be in.
As a media volunteer I am subject to the same rules and I respect that policy. Funnily enough it doesn’t stop me having an opinion, which I share with those I choose to, just not on social media.

Well I don’t know Sam, so can’t comment further on him but I do know Ben was against this forum at one point and I believe other ‘unofficial’ channels. I don’t like that and don’t agree with it as I believe there ought to be a way for fans to voice their opinions. I did submit a question to the Open Forum in March but it was ‘softened’ or ‘cleansed’ before it was put to the Chairman. It was asking why we had given away our entire strike force in January and whether it was a cost cutting exercise. I felt it was relevant and actually deserved an answer. It never got one and that’s why we need alternatives. I have made my protest today by not renewing and I will consider my position again when the season finishes and I feel it’s an appropriate time.

From memory, the previous owner of this forum had long been very critical of many things BAFC and become deeply unpopular. Similarly the ‘official’ facebook forum was becoming difficult to moderate with so many baseless and defamatory comments that it was closed down leaving supporters to create their own forum which is fine. I didn’t notice you ask for the mic at the forum to ask your question though Mikey if you were u happy with how it was asked???

I had submitted it Ian as I thought it was important that it was covered. It was asked ‘in a way’ and at the time I accepted that in the spirit of positivity and to show support for Martin. With hindsight I should have probably built on it.

I’d also add that I think the forum was more powerful in Ashby Brewers day and it was also a retrograde step when people broke away to set up the Facebook group. When we had one voice, we had considerably more influence.

Quite a few have crossed that line.

When we had one voice, we had considerably more influence. Fair to say that the old forum was pretty much before FB and X etc and the other social media platforms so a lot has been diluted, and not always for the better. Fair to say that there was a lot went on via the old forum/moderator that was unseen by the day to day forum visitor. I will leave it at that. Healthy debate and constructive criticism should always be welcomed. I have no problem with fans etc expressing their opinions but in the right way, without being rude or deliberately antagonistic. Unfortunately social media these days has become increasingly toxic with so much content posted anonymously and seemingly without reproach.

Does this forum have any influence - other than on the opinions of other fans perhaps? where one supporter's reasoned criticism, I'd say, is more influential than one hundred simply spewing bile, vitriol and abuse....
