Chauke had an ankle injury before Xmas, last appeared against Charlton on the 20th January for 7 minutes and hasn't been seen since. 5 league appearances all season. Either he's rubbish or injured again. If he simply can't make the squad that's a wage just sat around doing nothing. It's a shame because I thought he looked quite energetic and technical when I watched him in pre-season against Nuneaton. Very weird that nothing really has been said of him by the club too, hopefully we actually see him properly next season or get him off the wage bill

Professional footballers ? What a joke. The median salary for a full time employee in the UK is just under £35,000 a year.
The lowest earners on the pitch tonight are on double that. The highest, allegedly, on six times that amount. Without naming names, there are players who featured tonight, who I'd struggle to justify paying them minimum wage, let alone six figures.

“without naming names” ? None of them deserve 70k . Never mind the higher figure . Not an ounce of footballing intelligence amongst them.

www.transfermarkt.co.uk/burton-albion/kader/verein/2963/saison_id/2023/plus/1Assuming this website is accurate... Contracted until June 2025 (9 players) Blackman, Bennett, Crocombe, Sweeney, Harper, Hamer, Chauke, Stockton, GordonContracted until June 2026 (1 player) Moon Out of contract (13 players) Carayol, Brayford, Nsiala, Caprice, Powell, Hughes, Kamwa, Helm, Gilligan, Niemcyck, Oshilaja, Walker, LakinI'm assuming Deji, Kuba, and Walker are all out of contract because it doesn't have a date on the above website and I couldn't find anything online. Contracted until June 2025 (9 players) Blackman, Bennett, Crocombe, Sweeney, Harper, Hamer, Chauke, Stockton, Gordon - sell Blackman, Stockton & Gordon
Contracted until June 2026 (1 player) Moon
Out of contract (13 players) Carayol, Brayford, Nsiala, Caprice, Powell, Hughes, Kamwa, Helm, Gilligan, Niemcyck, Oshilaja, Walker, Lakin - keep Brayford (a doubt), Helm & Gilligan
Which would leave us: GK Crocombe DF Sweeney, Hamer, Brayford, Moon - Moon at CB MD Harper, Chauke, Helm, Gilligan FW Bennett We need some experience. I was always told about the 'spine' of a team. Crocombe (tick) & Sweeney/Hughes (tick) and then........there's no one in front of them. Stridey, Lee Bell, Robbie Weir, Stephen Quinn etc. Forwards? Where do you start? We start again. To be fair to the out of contract players, after THIS season, we should allow them to go and have a more positive experience elsewhere.

I will. Deji Oshilaja, Joe Hugill That's interesting about Hugill. I thought the lad put in a lot of effort up against a class defender who is literally twice as old as him, has played roughly forty times as many senior games and, less scientifically, has about 100% more know how etc. While I wouldn't pretend Hugill had any real impact on the game, I'm not sure that was really down to him or what we could reasonably have expected him to do given the 'service' that he got. I watched on i-Follow and I appreciate it may all have looked different at the ground. One of the benefits of I-Follow is getting Aaron Webster's insights and he mentioned a couple of time that we should have been looking to supply Hugill with balls to run on to rather than hope somehow he could outwit or outmuscle Curtis Davies. Sinfin BovrilI see you are happy to let Hughes & Powell go. That seems a little surprising from a distance, although if they have they been as poor throughout the season as they were on Tuesday I can see why you feel that way.

This is the worst team and manager since Steve Powells side in the Southern League Midland Division (and he had no money to build a team)absolute shambles in 2024!

The only contracts we don't have a definitive answer to the length of, are Blackman, Oshilaja and Caprice.
Helm is rumoured to be out of contract but I'm not sure if we'll have a 1 year option on his deal.
I still don't believe that Walker would be out of contract. No club of our standing would pay £200k to sign someone on an 18 month deal. I just can't see that even with some of the things that have gone on.

I like them both but I expect Hughes to leave and Joe Powell has been Mr Potential for three seasons without having consistently delivered. Though we can blame managers for that?
