I attended this game last night which ended in a comfortable victory for Stafford Rangers by 3-1. Given that Stone play in a league 2 levels below Stafford this was not a surprise. As a resident of Stafford for many years and have several very keen Rangers supporters friends I do get to see them a few times a season. Their glory days in non league football were very much in the 1970s and they have languished in the Northern Premier league for many years without any real success. They have however won the last 3 Staffs Senior Cup finals in a competition where Stoke and Port Vale routinely field young sides. Of course Albion compete in the Birmingham Senior Cup for historical reasons but have competed in the Staffs cup in fact winning it in the fifties and also losing finalist in the eighties. Given we are established as the second club in Staffordshire after Stoke City it strikes me that we should again enter this cup along with the BSC as it gives our youngsters a second chance along with a few first team squad members, for meaningful games. By the way there was a healthy attendance last night probably around 500.
