What a fantastic player he has been for our club.
On the pitch, a talented player who excelled in all the positions he was required to play. Comfortably adapted to the Championship and maybe unlucky not to get a deal at a Championship club after we were relegated.
Off the pitch he was, by all accounts, outstanding also and his ability to communicate and become one of the fans will, I am sure, his status as a modern legend.
Thank you and all the best.

An outstanding player and a true Burton Albion legend - up there with the best players in our history. Also a proper club man, worked hard in the community and was great with the kids. I’d just also like to say that he was truly loved by the fans - in an age where racism is always under scrutiny I would say that Lucas always felt the love of the fans and the respect we had for him as a player rather than anything to do with him being black. You were loved Lucas and will be missed but always a welcome visitor to the Pirelli in the future I’m sure.

From Mansfield Town Fc Site: Mansfield Town are delighted to announce the signing of Lucas Akins from Burton Albion on a permanent transfer. The 32-year-old, who reunites with former manager Nigel Clough, has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal at One Call Stadium. Lucas rose through the ranks at hometown club Huddersfield Town, making his debut in August 2007, before enjoying a brief loan spell at Northwich Victoria. Stints followed in Scotland with Partick Thistle and Hamilton Academical before Tranmere Rovers captured his signature in 2010. His impressive displays at Prenton Park attracted the interest of Stevenage, who paid a fee for the 6’1” player in 2012. Lucas made his move to Burton in 2014 and went on to play a significant role in the Brewers’ rise up the football pyramid, from League One to the Championship. A fans’ favourite at the Pirelli Stadium, he won back-to-back supporters' and players' Player of the Year awards in 2018 and 2019. He made 345 appearances in all competitions for Burton, scoring 71 goals. holds the club record for most appearances and goals scored for Burton in the Football League. Manager Nigel Clough said: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Lucas to the club. He’s a player who we know very well and has the unique distinction of having played in every position, bar goalkeeper, for us in our time at Burton. “We’re sure that he will become a firm fans’ favourite, as he has been at Burton over the years, and will give us an extra dimension in our push for promotion.” www.mansfieldtown.net/news/2022/january/stags-land-new-signing/

Burton site LUCAS Akins has left Burton Albion after the club agreed to release him from his contract so that he could join Mansfield Town. Akins joined the Brewers in 2014 after Gary Rowett made him a target as he looked to win promotion from League Two. He played a key part in back-to-back promotions that saw the Brewers play in the Championship for the first time in the club’s history. Akins made 345 appearances in all competitions, scoring 71 times, and playing in virtually every position for the Brewers. He was the supporters’ choice as Player of the Season in both 2018 and 2019. Brewers manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said: “Lucas originally put in a transfer request a year ago but at that time we didn’t have a ready replacement and couldn’t let him go. “He put in another request in this window and the club has recognised his valuable service to Burton Albion and has allowed him to leave so that he can sign for Mansfield Town. “We understand that players need to secure their long-term future and we weren’t in a position to talk about new contracts at this stage. “Therefore, we thank Lucas for all he has done for the club and wish him well for the future.” Akins said: “After seven and half fantastic years my time at the club has come to an end. During this period, the best of my life to date both on and off the pitch, we have created and shared some special memories whilst building on the superb work of previous Brewers teams, to continue to make history together in achieving consecutive promotions to climb up to the club’s highest league position and to reach a semi-final of a major domestic cup competition. “I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to represent such a wonderful club and to have had the pleasure of meeting some amazing people along the way. I would like to thank each and every individual associated with Burton who has made my whole experience such a positive and complete one. Thank you for your unconditional support throughout and please continue to support the team moving forward as I believe more success is around the corner! “I sincerely wish you all nothing but the best in the future and look forward to returning soon.” www.burtonalbionfc.co.uk/news/2022/january/2001-akinsdeparts/

See Darren Stride, who did play in goals for you!

All the best Lucas, thanks for the memories. Truly a club legend who always gave 100% with a genuine connection with the fans. We got the best years out of him. Not blessed with great pace but a powerful player who often used this to his advantage and scored his fair share of goals.

One player I didn't want to see go right now. It was going to happen if not now at the end of the season I guess. Saving nearly half a seasons wages is like getting a decent fee for him so I guess the right time to go. Just hope he can get back to say a proper goodbye sometime. Wishing him nothing but best wishes.

It should have been done Sunday - so we could have seen him play Saturday for the last time and give him a send off. Not a great way to go.

What a player, what a man! I vividly remember seeing him play at Oxford just after he had signed and thinking what an incredible player we had signed. The very best of luck to you at Mansfield. Al right thinking Albion fans will think only that you excel there - even if you are playing us in League 1 next year!

Guess Mansfield's a shorter commute from Huddersfield by a fair bit... Should enable him to see more of his family...

Very sad to see Lucas go, but i wish him every success at Mansfield. Saw him play first in a friendly against Sheff Utd when we thumped them 4-0 and he scored. Was very impresed with him then and on his debut at Oxford when he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win. I've been impressed with him ever since. He became a fans favourite for a reason. Thank you Lucas, feels like we have lost a member of the family.

I echo what everybody else has said and it was always going to be a sad moment when Lucas departed. A true club legend and the last remaining player from the L2 & L1 promotion seasons. What a great side that was with Lucas one of the main players through that period. Yes, the last 18 months has seen his performances take a dip from where they were but age catches up with everybody I guess.
My main ask of the club is that we do something to mark his departure i.e. an invite back for a home game when he's available and make sure everybody knows when that will be so all true Brewers fans can turn up and give him a proper send off.
Thanks for the memories, Lucas!!

Judging by the form book and now with Lucas' move, there's every chance we will be seeing him twice next year ..

If only every player showed such commitment and desire. An absolute pleasure watching Lucas play, Good luck Lucas, 👍🏻
