To be honest I’m quite shocked at such stinging criticism. I thought that was a really good game from two decent sides who will both be up there over the course of the season. I saw some excellent players, decent football and a high degree of skill all over the pitch and if we give the players time they will come good - we have been incredibly unlucky with injuries. The Sky stats were: 54% possession to 46% 27 shots to 12 13 corners to 1 To see Ben Garrett coming up for corners at the death and everybody forward is an incredible difference to the ultra cautious approach of the recent past and to see the team clapped off at the end despite the loss was refreshing too, obviously not by some on here though and we are all entitled to our opinions. I’d say reflect on it though and with hindsight it might not feel quite as bad as initially feared.

Thought 1st half we had no pattern of play again but we created a few very good chances. Really feel for Jebbison as he needed and should have put his first chance away to make it 1-1, it’s a different game then... he had a decent game though and looks quality, it’ll come! The midfield wasn’t right for me and didn’t work with Powell out wide with Morris and Chapman in there also. When Maddox and Smith came on who I think is carrying a knock? We looked like creating more. Oshilaja was my pick of our midfielders today who I thought did really well and is a better in possession than what I first thought. I’d be tempted to play him a bit further up and put Mancienne in the holding role and see if we can win the ball further up the pitch. I really believe we have the players in this squad to have one of the best teams in this league but I wish Jimmy would get it sorted hopefully when everyone is available again he will. It was funny when their forward tripped over the ball when he was clean through! Sell him... 😁 COYB 👍🏻

We played a team who were fast, skilful and strong. We were generally second best in all departments. We were completely disjointed until the substitutions but afterwards we did start to play like a team and take the game to them. This continual passing the ball backwards and forwards across the back line does not work because it is too slow and too predictable. To be fair to the defence There is no movement ahead of them so they are continually left with no other options. When we pumped the ball forward it was usually hoofball and rarely did the forwards make anything of it. The number of mistakes we make at the back is worrying. For the 2nd consecutive game we made a silly error when trying to dribble the ball out with fatal consequences. Finally - the long throw. Whilst this has a place in our game, for goodness sake let us try a bit of variety. We are too predictable all round and unless this changes we will be in another season of struggles.

Bostwick coming back into the side has made us look slow, cumbersome and clumsy.
As good as he might be in the air, he's pretty substandard in every other department these days, plus he's a natural midfielder playing as a centre half.
Leak back in please. Let's start playing people in their natural positions and we might get back on track.

Unfair to single out Bostwick IMO. I don’t think any of the defence looked great today. I won’t go too heavy into criticism though. It’s gone now. 5 defeats out of 5 against Lincoln since they came back into the league though. Bogey team anyone?
Anyway…On to Tuesday night and Pompey at the Pirelli. Hopefully we’ll be better.

Let's be realistic here it only got better with the introduction of Smith, Hemmings & Maddox. First half was dreadful, disjointed and no pace at all. This hoof has to stop it is so predictable?. We had Akins on the right ? And Powell on the left ? Neither had operated in those positions much this season... and it showed .... awful with little penetration. Last corner of the game and I thought it was in.... Smith corner, I like him, and he also created the goal both from workrate then the pass across, how posters say to leave him off is baffling... Anyway the good point is that besides Leak coming in for Bostwick the finishing Team was extremely strong and deserved the goal. Let's see next Team but the players coming back are strengthening Agree with everything apart from you cant have seen Smith much recently. So obvious what he is going to do. Also the fact he is heavily marked.

You often hear people say that teams have been "found out" and not just at our level but even at the top of the game in the recent past I.e. Barcelona and Liverpool. In my opinion teams in our league have found us out and have worked out effective ways of combating us. There are some good coaches and good players in this league and they are not just going to be caught by surprise like last season when Jimmy arrived and they will study our strengths and weaknesses. From very early on yesterday the signs were there that Appleton had got his tactics right and got one over on Jimmy and Dino.
The first goal yesterday was a similar one to the last home game where the ball was lost in our own half by a midfielder and the opposition countered on us leaving the defence exposed. Whilst it was a clear error by Chapman in being dispossessed I think it came about from impatience and frustration that we were struggling to string any meaningful passes together and he felt he need to make something happen. Not only did we concede it then also took until late in the second half for him to regain his confidence but by then it was too late.
We are too easy to play against at the moment where it's very predictable that central defenders play it to full backs who play it up the line to the wide men with their backs to goal, it's then played back and we start again. The issue is we don't have anybody like Stephen Quinn who had the ability to take the ball off our defenders and get us moving up the pitch through the middle and was always available to receive the ball. People will pick on the obvious candidates like Morris to have a go at but he didn't appear to me like he actually knew what his role was yesterday and what he was meant to be doing and the game largely passed him by.
I must admit you do start to worry when we are on a run like this. 6 games now and we haven't lead for a single minute in any of those games and have been chasing the game for the majority of them which isn't currently our strength. That said this is still a new squad and we are now free of injuries so hopefully the next few games will see us improve.
No excuses, we have a large squad that Ben has allowed Jimmy to assemble and he needs to improve as well as the players on the pitch. Hope for better on Tuesday. COYB!!!

Jimmy has assembled a very large squad, but in my opinion its very much quantity over quality.
Even when everyone is fit, all 37/38 players, we are still lacking in some areas. I mean we signed 2 left backs and our right back is still very much the first choice option, I wonder if we should've just kept Hutchinson as a cheap backup option instead!
We don't have a reliable striker who can be trusted to put the game changing chances away, and that shows given what happened yesterday. Hemmings is very hot and cold, he'll either bag us 2 goals or do nothing for 8/9 games, and it's arguable whether we can put all of our hopes on Jebbison who has barely played any first team football.
I don't even know where to start on the midfield, playing two defensive midfielders doesn't sit right with me, especially when we need to start scoring goals. We need to get attacking midfielders on the pitch and we can't do that if we are playing so negatively.
It's just so frustrating, we should be doing so much better but we've just gone so flat & boring, we must be a dream to play against. We are creeping back to what we were like before Jimmy came in and we can't let that happen, we need to stop the very rapid slide down the table.

It is worrying however we know if we can perform anything like the first three games we will be okay. You can see Jimmy is still experimenting with the squad and only just starting to get first choice players back, it’s been very much square pegs lately… Also we do perform better against the bigger more fancied clubs so roll on Tuesday. It’s amazing what a win can do.

The Squad for the 2019/20 season was:
Squad 19/20
Bywater Garrett Hawkins Sharman-Lowe Anderson Brayford Buxton Daniel Hart Hutchinson Morley Nartey Wallace O’Toole Dyer Edwards Fox Fraser Powell Quinn Sbarra Vale Akins Beardsley Sarkic Sordell Thomas
With Clough, Crosby, Garner and Taylor in charge. We lost Fraser and Edward as their contracts expired and I’d have liked to have kept both. Quinn was a wonderful player but is now 35. We now have Hasselbiank/Maamria and Quy doing the honours and looking at what we had then compared with now, I think I know which one I’d prefer to back and with patience I still believe we will do ok. It’s a very tough league and I reiterate that yesterday we saw a good game, some decent football, huge effort going in by both sides, two decent managers and an improved crowd who appreciated what they saw (based on a the ovation at the end) and would be likely to come back. We have 17 newish players and we do need to give them time to gel. Let’s continue to get behind them.

I don’t get that at all. Weldone Conor, but they were clearly watching a different game to me.
