19 days into Jan and teams are sorting out the fine tuning in their league campaign. the next two fixture 6 points could make a big difference, as Clough says the cream will rise to the top On sat the top 7 picked up points- 6 out of 7 won the pressure is on, the 3rd fixture is 1st feb and all clubs have to stick, jan 31st last day of the window Rotherham=Coventry=Ipswich=Portsmouth=Sunderland=Oxford, all expected to be up there and then the outsiders Burton=Fleetwood= Wycombe=Lincoln=Doncaster=Peterborough=Bristol rovers. And very often a complete outsider comes up on the rails, Blackpool=Gillingham perhaps. Looking at the top 6 the big boys are getting results, and the relegation battle is on with no quarter given, It would be nice not to give a competitor a helping hand, and keeping Boyce-Fraser, Adding Murphy £250-000 pounds in the scheme of things we would get back out of the play-offs, and with our squad just adding Murphys quality. gives us a real edge, a roller coaster ride starts now. Clough aiming for top six [gives us hope ]

I heard a tv pundit (don't remember who or may not have known his name) say (some time over the week-end) that he thought because of the high quality of the football in the Premier League, this had improved the quality of the football in the Championship AND LEAGUE ONE....... ......I suppose (tho' he didn't) you'd call it a knock-on effect...
There's probably a host of other factors involved too (better coaching, better pitches, fitness, physiological well-being, technological gizmos/stats you couldn't collect without 'em)
Now I've seen some on here express the view that League One this year is not of a very high standard. As far as I can recall, the main reason given is that there are no stand-out teams that have opened up a gap on the others.....but surely if this was the case it would be a League that had one or two good teams but was generally poor.....?
In my view the fact that teams are all bunched up and jockeying for position, where "anyone can beat anyone on their day" suggests to me it is a pretty good standard throughout....there have been some sides down the bottom that have impressed me ....look no further than our last game against the much improved MK Dons, Tranmere Rovers fighting back not just against us but from 3 v 0 down at Watford in FA Cup, Accrington beat us fair and square when on a good run (But not been so good since they've lost Sean McConville), Rochdale beat Rotherham in December...I'll leave it there...
Just 10 points from 4th to 16th, 13 points from 1st to 16th....(while 17th to 21st, engaged in their own mini-league - are not so far adrift)
I like this league this season - I like this League full stop - There're some good old clubs in it. Let's be honest, we're unlikely to compete for more than a season or two in the Championship - our success might be measured in how many times we can get there (again and again)
League One is very competitive this season and we've seen some good football (in my view)...the biggest frustration by far (apart from poor attendances - some will make a link) has been our inability to score more goals from all the chances we've made and the chances we could've made - here's hoping our new recruits will put this right in the remainder of the season and we'll make the top six....

COYB Cracking post Everard nice one. Gave me a different perspective on things actually, I think there’s probably a lot of truth in what you’re saying. Really there are a handful of clubs that *should* be head and shoulders above the rest given their relative resources but it hasn’t happened. I’m wondering how it compares to 2015/16 — in my head there are higher profile clubs this year.

Wycombe got hammered 4-0 at Peterborough last night.
They are one of the worst form teams in the league right now and capable of not just dropping out of automatic but also dropping out of playoffs
Something like 3 points from last 18
Meanwhile we are more like 15 points from last 18 and the form team in the league
Hopefully it continues
We've got some tough games coming up soon though. Rotherham and Ipswich not far away.

Wycombe struggling but still 8 points clear of the Brewers, Peterborough still only 1 point of the playoffs and the league remains tight

Handy result for us tonight with Sunderland and Doncaster being goalless which means victory for us tomorrow and assuming Posh don't beat the leaders Rotherham then we will be back in the top 6. All to play for!!

Great result tonight. Decent game to watch without ever being brilliant. Doncaster defended well.
It's daft to predict where the points will come from but looking at the next block of fixtures I expect us to be in the top 6 by the time Oxford come to the Pirelli.
Then the goal is simple, get into a position where we're three points clear and then hang on.
Similar to the promotion season really where we were always able to match the result of those around us.
I know I've said it before but psychologically tomorrow is massive. We're on a great run, we're rested, we've had a boost with Murphy and the other two lads coming in, now how do we cope with losing Boyce?
Time to step up to the plate. I don't care how it comes or who gets the goal, I don't care if they play us off the park and we nick it cheaply.
Win the game tomorrow.

Tighter still Sunderland won 3 points away at Tranmere. played poor but got the result Rotherham=Wycombe=Ipswich=Peterborough=Sunderland= Coventry. Portsmouth very much in the mix== Oxford=Doncaster Burton losing ground 4 points away from top 6 Fleetwood six points adrift. 19 ==20 games to go 11 teams in it sums up the division all to play for, not expecting a late run i think this 11 will compete.
