Well Maghoma has just been offered a new 3 year deal at Birmingham City. Jake Buxton forged a long career at Derby County and earned genuine legendary status there. So I would say both bettered themselves by some distance going from the Conf and Div 2 to them. Off the top of my head I would add John Brayford, Sam Winnall. It depends where you see Burton Albion in the EFL, to me we are a small club, so if a player goes to Oxford United on a better contract as 2/3 have I'd say that could be bettering yourself? Billy Kee left for more money. I'm not a stats person but I'm sure there are others.

I pretty much delighted with the result last night. I seem to be on baby sitting duty every Brewers game since my partner became plod but I cant resist arresting times. Keeping the faith still - well played boys last night and well done to the travelling committed few.

When you consider maybe 50 plus players have left us in the last 10 years then there aren't really many success stories then being honest?
Maybe McLaughlin as well?

Was just going to add the same Ilson!
It's how you define "bettering yourself" really.More money, bigger club.............I don't know?
Another keeper Adam Legzdins at Burnley. Certainly Mac bettered himself at Hearts. Did McGurk going to Portsmouth. Duffy to Sheffield Utd.Alex Nicholls not sure why I recall him but went on to a long football league career as did the winger Roy Mac signed Byrne?
All off topic apologies!

Duffy, Nichols and Winnall were all only loan players who came to us from a higher level anyway so wouldn’t really count them.
There certainly aren’t many who have been released/let their contract run down who have gone on to better things. Maghoma and Buxton definitely did. Brayford was sold and deservedly made it and it will be interesting to see how Matty P gets on at Rotherham in time. Legzy has had a decent career since leaving us but doesn’t get many games. Tends to show that NC is a good judge of when to let players go even when it sometimes baffles us supporters!

Yes you're right Ian but you could say we put them in the shop window from otherwise obscurity and careers going the other way?!

For the sake of football I believe it's better to define "bettering oneself" as purely leaving a club for another higher up the pyramid and not for monetary reasons. For instance I find it difficult for anyone to argue that moose leaving for Oxford who are a league below albeit a bigger club and with it maybe a better contract as bettering himself.

Most players that leave Burton Albion move to bigger clubs, hard not to, only 3 clubs in the football league have a lower capacity. Fleetwood--Crawley--Accrington Stanley

Ian Hutchinson I think 44goals & FA Cup winners medal for Chelsea counts as doing OK
We could could do with a stricker like that right now.
