And from the Burton Mail:- Derby County defender Stephen Warnock joins Burton Albion's promotion rivals Wigan Athletic on loan By JoshuaMurray | Posted: March 07, 2016 Stephen Warnock has joined Burton Albion's League One rivals Wigan Athletic on loan Stephen Warnock has joined Burton Albion's League One rivals Wigan Athletic on loan Comments (0) DERBY County defender Stephen Warnock has joined Burton Albion's League One promotion rivals Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the season. The left-back has made 22 appearances for the Rams this season, but he had not featured in the past four matchday squads, with his last outing coming in the goalless draw at home to Preston North End on February 1. The 34-year-old has seen his place in the side taken by new signing Marcus Olsson, who arrived at the iPro Stadium during the January transfer window. The loan deal means that Warnock could feature against the Brewers when Wigan visit the Pirelli Stadium on April 19. The Latics, who were held to a 1-1 home draw with Peterborough United on Saturday, currently sit second in the League One table, four points adrift of Albion having played a game more than Nigel Clough's men. Latics manager Gary Caldwell said: "We are struggling a little on the left side of defence with Chris McCann now suspended for two games, we don't know the time scale on Reece James yet and the opportunity to bring in a player with his quality and experience is a great signing for the rest of season. "When we found out Stephen was available it really was a no brainer. "He has vast experience having played extensively at the very top level, but he also has great Football League experience in recent years and I think he will really help the squad at a vital time of the season."
