So we're almost a third of the way through the season. We currently sit in 3rd, 11pts off the 'magic 40' which is deemed to be the safe zone.
Breaking up our results into quarters of the table:
Top 6: Home - W0 D1 L1 Away - W0 D0 L1
Positions 7-12: Home - W4 D0 L0 Away - W0 D0 L0
Positions 13-18: Home - W1 D0 L0 Away - W2 D0 L0
Positions 19-24: Home - W0 D1 L0 Away - W2 D0 L2
There are on average 6 (5.75) per category. I think the main thing to note is that we have 11/31 of the remaining fixtures away to the top 12, which worries me given our typical away form.
Not sure if there's anything really of interest... I'm bored on an away job in Portsmouth!

You need at least 50 points in a 24 team league.

Especially in a 24 team league where 4 go down. 2 teams went down with 50 points last season!

A nice little look into the season so far. I think 50 points would be the safety mark again this season but lets hope we are way above that come May.

I don't think there is a much to be concerned about. Ok we have only played 2 of the current top 12 teams away and have 1W and 1L. When we beat Swindon away they were 10th. Our overall away record is 5W and 3L, before yesterday it was 4W and 3L. Over the last 10 games we are 6-2-2 and we played 4 of the top 12 losing 1. I don't see a reason (other than injuries and suspensions) to think that we will do poorly away against teams in the top 12. Fleetwood away was a lesson that you can have a bad day against any team. But I think we will scrape 18 points from the remaining 90 available. Top 10 finish will be brilliant, anything more is a bonus. A few more goals would be nice as well. COYB!!

Absolutely no fears regarding relegation, league One is not as good this season as it was last, top half would be great but on current form amazingly a play off place is a possibility. The January transfer window will be the time when the bigger clubs will get the opportunity to improve their squads, how we do at that time will be pivotal. So far we have surpassed our wildest dreams !

I think everyone knows we need or need to put another striker alongside Beavon who can do the business. Only then will I start believing we can win or get promoted from this league at the first attempt. It does slightly worry me that if we don't do it soon we may just drift down the league. Am I being unrealistic, or more ambitious than I should be. Crazy isn't it though, 12 months ago we could have only dreamed about discussing promotion places with a prize of a place in the Championship, is it possible?

Yeah, Thiele isn't cutting it.
Any ideas why Joachim can't get a start? I really think he's class. Perhaps he's being saved for when we need him... But I don't know.

Every player needs to get a chance, as for Joachim that one is a mystery to me why he hasn't started recently. He looks strong, seems to hold the ball OK not easily dispossessed from the little we've seen of him. Maybe a fitness thing, hope he gets a start Sat in the cup.

Why is League One not as good this year as last? Because the best teams got promoted They always do, and they did the year before and the year before that, but Wigan and Millwall I would argue are not poor teams, Wigan still has parachute payments. I think Division Three is pretty much the same standard as it has been for the last few years, about the third tier level

Jimmy expects every player to defend, as such we have conceded the fewest goals in L1. He also wants goals from every player so it's kind of a new-style dutch total football system, one of the 3 midfielders are generally running off the striker. But, that said, we are 4th lowest in goals scored. As he says the goals will come. He has us at top of L1 so we have to believe him. The dilema for me is AJ and why he hasn't had a start. Is it fitness, I don't think so as he played 90 mins twice recently within a few days against Spain and Slovakia? I think it's more likely that he wants Timmy to score and establish himself, if he drops him it may mess with his head. I don't agree with those who say that Timmy is not cutting it, he puts in a shift but like several others he is having trouble finding the goal. Let's not forget he is only 24, and he's had two serious knee injuries. A ruptured Cruciate Ligament in June 2013, and again in July 2014. He basically restarted his career in Jan 2015 and he has only started a handful of games in the English League. The ketchup bottle may be about to explode.

I think it's more the team adapting to someone who isn't Beavon playing up front which also causes us some issues.

I think it comes down to the style of striker that they are. Timmy has shown in his appearances so far that whilst he is a different type of striker to Bevs he has the pace to get in behind defences which he did to good effect yesterday by getting on to balls down the channels in behind the Oldham defence. AJ, to me would appear to suit playing as part of a two man attack (not sure what formation Luxembourg play) linking with another striker as he perhaps lacks that burst of pace to get in behind defences and the extra mobility required to play as a lone striker. That is not meant as a criticism of Joachim at all because he is clearly a talented player and I too want to get a better look at what he can do, hopefully in the Cup next week. Jimmy and David see them all in training all week and pick the team based on that plus what they feel is required against certain opposition so we have to trust their judgment.

The Joachim/Thiele debate is, exactly as CBH1 described, a question of playing styles. Timmy has pace to run in behind the defence and we've seen that in his last three starts, with the midfield sending balls down the channels for Timmy to chase. Now while Beavon will reach these and hold the ball up, Timmy has the pace to burn around the full-backs and into the box. He won at least four corners on Saturday against Oldham by doing that. His aerial threat is not the same as Beavon or Joachim, but nor does it need to be. Giving Timmy flick-ons to win, as with Beavon, won't work. Timmy's intelligence, pace and awareness of the space around him allows him to get onto those balls behind the defence. If the midfield started putting them between the lines of the six and 18 yard boxes, so into the area effectively, we would see Timmy getting a lot more shots in at goal. As it is, Timmy is having to chase balls down too wide to get a shot off with. Joachim is stronger, but slower. He can hold the ball up against the centre-halves, as Beavon does, and pass the ball off to a midfield runner but that isn't the game JFH wants to play right now. Joachim will get his chance when, perhaps, we need to play quick counters to the striker and overload with midfield runners.

Hi funky, in my opinion league One had 3 sides last season who were exceptional for this division, namely Bristol City, MK Dons and Preston plus an excellent Swindon team that was broken up at the end of the season, The sides who were relegated were not blessed with resources in Blackpool and Millwall but Wigan most certainly are with their parachute payments. So overall I don't see any outstanding teams this season running away with it and the league will be much tighter from top to bottom. A slightly lower standard and even league giving us a better chance of establishing ourselves. That said Jimmy and David have done a superb job in crafting game plans and the players mind set to have us in the position we are in. I hope that makes sense !

I do agree that the league is very tight this year, every game is a difficult challenge because the margins are so small. I do not believe the standard to be lower this year. The only team out alone last year in league 1 was Bristol City collecting 97 points. Many other supporters are also saying it is a poor league this year, and I suggest that is simply because the current top three teams were not expected to be where they are, (so it must be a poor league). I don't think Sheffield United would agree, as firm pre-season favourites who lost at Crewe on Saturday. The fact is that the competition is very strong, and the pressing and passing skills are pretty good. Over the years, (with the odd exception), in my opinion, I have seen the standard of football played in all of our non-league steps and league levels steadily improve.
