On this day in 2014 Birmingham appointed Gary Rowett as their new manager and i personally remember feeling pretty gutted when i heard the news and wondering what sort of manager would be coming our way.
But a year later look how far both sides have come. Hasselbaink guides us to the league 2 title in style and currently censored.word in 3rd spot in league one and just down the road Rowett has taken Birmingham from 2nd bottom of the Championship to 6th and in a play-off spot.
At the time many would of questioned both appointments but it turned out to be the dream decision for both clubs and long may it continue!

Jimmy and David have done incredibly well in their first go at running an English League club. I said a year ago that I was buzzing with the appointment and a year later I still am. When they were appointed I never realistically thought they would go on to win L2. And 3 months ago I never thought that we would currently censored.word in 3rd place in L1 at the end of October.

Gary Rowett was working his way out of the club long before Birmingham approached.

Gary Rowett was working his way out of the club long before Birmingham approached. Yes it's well known he wanted to speak to Oxford United, who came in for him,but he was not granted permission to speak with them! Not everybody believes in the rowett myth,he certainly wanted to leave before Birmingham came in for him.

Staggered by the last two posts, so Rowett turns down Blackpool and then leaves only to a team he played for with great distinction. Anyone who heard him speak would have heard his commitment to the Brewers. He did not need the money but left for an unbelievable opportunity at a former club. And he is doing a fabulous job there too, as he did at the Albion.
Show me the evidence he was 'working his way out' or shut the flop up.
I recall, after Pesch was sacked, Darren Moore being interviewed on Radio Derby, it was around the time of the 7-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers. Mooro said Rowett should get the the job as he was the best coach he had worked for or words to that effect.
I don't see the need to compare, Rowett did a fantastic job for us, he moved on leaving a fabulous legacy. Jimmy has taken us forward again and is doing a terrific job.

He spoke to Oxford Utd without speaking to Ben first. Ben was told about the conversation when an Oxford board member contacted Ben saying he was surprised he had given him permission to speak to them. He hadn't.

I am not so sure on the whole 'he was on his way out before Birmingham came in for him'. I think he was fully committed to everything he did at the club and as was said above funky he turned down the opportunity to go to another club and went to a club where his heart was at.

So people are just ignoring my post about him touting himself to Oxford then?
Lots of people looking through rose tinted glasses on this one I'm afraid.

I don't get the need to keep talking about Rowett. He was our manager for a little over two years, he (and the two Kevins) did a good job and got us to Wembley, but he never won anything or got us promoted. He left and he ain't coming back. Thanks Gaz. See ya.

The whole point of the thread from Bournemouth Brewer was to recognise that it is one year since Gary left and looking at the progress made by both Burton and Birmingham in that time. Dont see a problem with referring back to Gary in that sense. Whether we won anything or not under him, the progress we made from the previous manager was immense. From being middle of the table league 2 to perennial promotion challengers. Who knows. If Gary had stayed we may still have won the league and promotion.
As Funky says Gary left a fantastic legacy and Jimmy took it on another stage.
When Jimmy eventually moves on (and he will), will you want to consign him to the past straight away and say Thanks Jimmy, See ya and not want to refer back to his record with us?

Exactly that, the thread was just to recognise how far both clubs have come since Rowett left and how it turned out perfectly for both clubs.

Sorry pal, my point was not to criticise 'your' post (though I now see how you could interpret it as that). I think it was a valid comment. But then it strays off track and defeats the purpose of your post. For me in general, it's just that some people seem to talk more about Gaz and Nigel on here than they do about Jimmy. Gets a bit old (IMO) but we are all allowed opinions, I'm just expressing mine.

No need to apologise chap, i see what you are saying and i do agree that alot of people do still bang on about them both rather than Jimmy

I can't put it any better than funky has, but will add. Rowett did win something though, respect for us as a club in the football league. He was actually with us on our entry into the league as Pesch's assistant as was a very good former player. Cloughie sunk 10 years into this club and did a brilliant job transforming the club, both of their contributions in the history of our club have been very note worthy. Jimmy has come in and tweaked things a few more notches and done a remarkable job, in my opinion his best signing has been David Oldfield. We have won league 2 and are competing high in league 1, absolutely outstanding stats along the way too. He will of course leave us one day as did Clough and Rowett but his contribution will also be notable in our history. I appreciate and recognise the commitment they have all given to BAFC and hope we have Jimmy here for as long as possible because he is going to manage at the very top level, of that I have no doubt. He is a man who likes things done the right way, he chose us because of how the club go about there business, so for that great credit to Ben Robinson.

Lots of postings on here about rowett the myth first wlith pesch and then on his own,Nigel Clough spent 10 years building BAFC up to the standard it is now,not pesch or rowett who between them made some very bad and expensive signings, absolutely true he was interested in the Oxford job,so don't tell me to flip off its a forum not a old age pensioners chat room.

Good point, my apologies, but is was really was responding to the suggestion that he was 'working his way out', and it was 'flop off' not 'flip off'. The overall situation for me though is that, as managers, Clough built the club, Pesch stabilised and consolidated us in the league. Rowett took us up to the next level and left a legacy that could have been blown. JFH built upon it though and has taken us to the next League and so far is achieving beyond reasonable expectations.
