Can't see any threads regarding this friendly, ended up 0-0 and according to twitter we missed a few chances. Any feedback from those who went would be gratefully receieved.

I was there. Great turn out for a dull game but they've only been back in training barely a week and a half and these games are all about getting back into the groove, getting fitness levels up and integrating new players into the squad. Two different teams in each half for the Brewers. First half - Calum Butcher looks a bit of a unit...there's no messing with him and he'll pick up a few bookings this season, Matty Palmer had a great first half with some superb long range passes out to Akins on the right wing, Knowles worked his arse off as usual and the likes of Mousinho, Edwards, Taft etc...did what they always do. Second half - I thought Duffy looked a handful and played well apart from missing a couple of sitters, Nasser didn't look as sharp as usual but obviously pre season will sort that out, Maynard and Harness were all over the place (figuratively not literally) and again, Beavon did what he always does. Not entirely sure who our right back was in the second half but I thought he had a good game. Ross Atkins, Chris Palmer and John McGrath all turned out for Mickleover and it was good to see a few familiar faces. It was my first visit to Mickleover Sports and I thought they were great hosts. A very friendly club and I understand the proceeds the game was for a great cause. I'd do it a tremendous injustice if I tried to explain so here's the link to the whole story about the KC Trust. linkAttendance was 370.

I went to the game. It was a bit of a disjointed affair, but the kind of game one comes to expect at the moment. We noticed that the bench were very busy on their notebooks, and I suspect that they are mainly interested in perceived individual levels of fitness and motivation, rather than an all round team performance. Spence summed things up pretty well I think. I do like many others wonder about the sense in going to pre-season games, but find I can't resist them. The main thing is to go and enjoy watching the Brewers, without getting too wound up on the quality of what you see in this phase.

Spence - just a point about Nasser. I think the reason he may not look himself just yet is that he currently observing Ramadan which I think inevitably takes its toll when it occurs at this time of the year.
The right back was academy player Michael Pearson. Have to say, both at Gresley and today, the youth teamers - Pearson, O'Brien, Austin have not looked out of place. Ben Fox was good on Wednesday as well. I expect O'Brien and Fox to be the next ones knocking on the door of the first team squad over the next twelve months or so.
Duffy's first effort early in the second half took a wicked bobble just as he was about to hit it but he looks a tidy player. Agree as well that I think Butcher will be finding his way into a few referee's notebooks this season!
