Burton MailBurton Albion looking at the players released by Premier League clubs - here's our top 10 picks
BURTON Albion will be sifting through a list of more than 150 names of player released from the Premier League clubs this week.
There will inevitably be some gems hidden among the stars not given new deals by their clubs.
Here, Tom Sloan picks out 10 names which could interest Brewers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink if he decides to add some young blood to the squad.
Nathan Ricketts-Hopkinson, 19, striker.
A pacy striker, Nathan Ricketts-Hopkinson has been released by Stoke City and was earlier with Manchester City.
Spent three years at the Britannia Stadium and is now looking to get his career started.
The Salford-born attacker fits the bill as the kind of talent Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink wants.
Robbie Parry, 20, midfielder.
Clever midfielder Robbie Parry is looking for another club after being released by Stoke City.
The Welshman started his career with Wolves before moving to their West Midlands rivals.
Starred in Stoke's U21 side but found himself surplus to requirements this summer.
Aaron Birch, 20, midfielder.
Aaron Birch has graduated from West Bromwich Albion's youth set-up and has had trials at Bolton Wanderers.
An attractive playmaker, Birch has been a regular goalscorer for West Brom's U21 side in their U21 Premier League fixtures.
Birch is believed to be interesting several clubs in the Championship and League One.
Alfie Crooks, 20, deep-censored.word striker.
Alfie Crooks caused a few ripples when he netted for Aston Villa's U21 side in their game against Chelsea in 2013.
Has been released after not quite living up to his early promise at Villa Park, much like current Brewers man Adam McGurk.
Has interested several lower league clubs looking to give him a route back into the game.
Kieran Kennedy, 21, centre-half.
Once at Manchester City, Leicester City defender Kieran Kennedy is a teak tough central defender who could prosper in Leagues One and Two.
Good in the air and brave in the tackle, things at the King Power Stadium have not quite worked out for the 21-year-old.
Albion are well-stocked at centre-half, but if John Mousinho moves back into midfield there will be a vacancy in the back four.
Louis Rowley, 20, left-back.
Former Manchester United defender Louis Rowley spent one unfulfilled season with Leicester City before being released.
He arrived at the King Power Stadium last year with high hopes of establishing himself. However, he is now a free agent and could be a perfect understudy for Damien McCrory, Burton's No 1 left back.
Aaron McEneff, 19, right-back.
Tottenham Hotspur have let the promising Northern Ireland U19 defender go this summer.
He previously had a trial with Nottingham Forest but did not earn a deal at the City Ground.
McEneff, 20 next month, is described as an attacking full-back and could provide back-up to Phil Edwards should Kelvin Maynard not come back to the Pirelli Stadium this season.
Andrew Cartwright, 19, midfielder.
Sunderland midfielder Andrew Cartwright is expected to be on the shopping list of several League One sides.
Son of former Newcastle United man, Peter, Cartwright was with Sunderland for four years after being spotted playing for the famous Wallsend Boys Club, where Peter Beardsley, Michael Carrick, Alan Shearer and Steve Watson cut their teeth.
His pedigree is such that he could follow another ex-Sunderland youth, Robbie Weir, to the Pirelli (Weir came via a spell at Tranmere Rovers).
Jake Sinclair, 20, striker.
Highly-rated forward Jake Sinclair has been at Southampton for 12 years.
Still only 20, the younger brother of Aston Villa man Scott will be looking to get his career moving back in the right direction this summer.
Had a loan spell with Hibernian last season but only played three games for the Edinburgh club. Might be tempted into League One to join Burton Albion.
Alexander McQueen, 20, centre-half.
Big, pacy central defender Alexander McQueen has all the attributes to be a success in the lower leagues.
Released by Spurs this week after four years at White Hart Lane, McQueen is bound to interest many clubs in League One and possibly even the Championship with his height and pace.
Could be just the defender Burton Albion need if they decide to strengthen their backline.
