With Jono serving a one match ban will Deano be, 1. Fit to start the season and, 2. given the opportunity to kick off our L1 season in goal? I personally have no problem with Dean being given the reins but that depends on Jimmy and Gavins assessment of his readiness. Deano has been excellent when called upon in the past and had a terrific run in the 2013-14 season and he has a very safe pair of hands. Plus we have recently given a contract to the academy keeper Sam Hornby. But is someone else knocking on the door? "My love and admiration for Burton is well-documented and I wanted to play for the club for years." That first match of the season does cause a minor problem
Normally I would have been happy for us to run with Mclaughlin backed up by either of the other two on the bench myself
And if Mclaughlin ever got injured then bring in emergency loan
Depends on how well the injury has healed I guess and what happens in our friendlies
I feel getting another keeper in on a perm or long term loan would be money that could be invested elsewhere in the team

And needing a keeper to get used to the team etc just for one game potentially complicates our friendlies even further if it's not one of our own guys

Assuming you always go with a sub 'keeper on the bench, would we be happy with Hornby on the bench? I don't know as I have never seen him, but that would be a gamble. So if not you then have to get a 'keeper in on a month loan just to cover one game, an expensive loan really, unless that 'keeper is going to really push McLaughlin.
On the basis that I guess we will not go with Hornby on the bench, I would not be surprised if we get a loan 'keeper in and Lyness is on the bench for the first game...

Maybe Adam Legzdens is touting himself to BAFC ? He may rival McLaughlin as 1st team keeper. He is without a club at present. Have no idea, just speculation on my part.

That was my point re: someone knocking at the door (and it's not Paul McCartney) tm, see latest post in Chit Chat, Spring Cleaning!!! Get in!! And yes one game for Jono, ref put it in as a professional foul not a denied goal scoring opportunity.

Surely denying a goal scoring opportunity is only one game ban.....the same as a professional foul. It is only three games for anything defined as violent conduct eg Robbie Weir's supposed elbow on Barry Corr.

I didn't think 'professional foul' existed as a cautionable offence?

Not sure on that one Funky.......I was talking to an eminent local former Premier League assistant referee who pointed out 'denying a goal scoring opportunity' no longer means being the last man. A defender may be getting back with a chance to clear a shot on goal but another defender could still be red carded for denying a goal scoring opportunity......if that makes sense.

I just didn't think 'professional foul' existed in the referee world, it is an oxymoron is it not?

We don't know what Jimmy has up his sleeve, but I think we need cover for the first game at least. There are lots of permutations, if Adam did sign then Deano could go out on loan, or we could bring another keeper in on a short term loan, or John Potts said he would go in goal if needed....

Definitely cannot find any reference in the laws of the game to a 'professional foul'.
Am I missing something peacock?

According to the FA suspensions list Jonathan McLaughlin has a 1 game suspension for Goal Scoring Opp law 12.55. Why do you make this stuff up?
