On FLS Phil Brown described it as the biggest game of the season for Southend. Perhaps more of a must win for them than us but as Funky points out, if we win, it puts a huge 11 points between us and them, whereas if we lose it reduces the difference to just five - and with another nine games to play, Sothend will rightly see us as catchable. So maybe not a must win for us but it would make a hec of a difference if we do win - it'd be like getting the second goal in a game and playing the remainder of the season being two-nil up rather than hanging on to a one goal lead.....

And a draw would be a good result for us as well, not so for Southend.

I'd like us to stuff it right up the Essex boys on Wednesday ! Here's hoping for a bumper home crowd and a rousing performance from the lads in black and yellow similar to against Luton and Shrewsbury ! COME ON YOU BREW-----ERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually think this is a bigger game for us than it is for Southend.
If we beat them we put 11 points between us and them. Will still be at least 12 points clear of Luton and co.
Will depend how Bury then do on Tuesday.
But we are gradually shaking off the chasing pack. Shaking off Southend would be great.
Whereas Southend shouldn't actually be looking at us. They should be looking at Wycombe and Shrewsbury ahead of us. They have to be the first two teams they have targeted.
Southend catching us a bonus for them.

Good point observer and you are correct, but I guess they will see potentially getting within 5 points of us as irresistible, even if their more realistic targets are beneath us. We need to be resolute and firm. A draw would not be a bad result for us, that said, I don't think any manager sets up for a draw.

They sometimes say matches are "must win matches"
For us this is very much a "must not lose match"

IMO every match in March is a "must win" because in April we have the hardest run-in of anyone in the top 7. It is important that we reach April not needing to take a lot from the remaining matches. Added to this, injuries are piling up at the worse possible time.

Phil Brown's comment leaves no doubt in my mind that they're coming here to win this one. I don't think there will be much caution in the Southend camp as, as Funky says, a point would be better for us than it would be for them. I can see them coming with a "shit or bust" mentality because a win means they'll have come to the league leaders, beat them and closed the gap. Any momentum they've currently got needs to be cut off and I'm also praying for a York win as well as Bury are getting up a bit of a head of steam.
For me, this is the big test of how good we actually are. Since the turn of the year we've only really played two teams with serious intentions of automatic promotion and we beat them both (Bury and Shrewsbury) 1-0. I think we've been grinding out results for some time now and if we turn up on Wednesday night and play as we did yesterday then I think we may get rolled over. We're more than capable of winning but I think it will require a performance worthy of automatic promotion, not a "grinder". One of those where the opposition supporters begrudgingly has to concede that they were beaten by the better team.
Oh, and I really want us to beat these. Can't stand them.

Jimmy Bullard put a tenner on us to win. I agree with him!
