Struggling to see how we could possibly be accused of over-achieving. We have been at or near the top of the table since day one of this season, I think 5th is the lowest we have been (but that's according to the statto website which is a bit dodgy). And since Jimmy arrived we have beaten or drawn all of the other top 7 teams (save for Plymouth who we drew on Nov.1st).
Nov.17th - Mar.7th - 19 games, 11 wins, 5 draws, 3 losses, 38pts from 57, (avg 2 points per game) a +16GD, 9 clean sheets, and a 13 games unbeaten streak (a club FL record) 26 goals scored, 10 against

I respect Ronnie Moore and his career. However as we all know making judgments about players and a team following a single game is extremely dodgy. I did not go on Saturday, but it was obviously played in difficult conditions, mainly due to a strong wind. This does not help in weighting a pass of any type, and judging headers etc. We are not overachieving regarding the way we have played up to now, even though we have been below par recently. We are top on merit, following 2 previous seasons in the play offs. If we are there after 46 games we will be there because we deserve to be.

If we get promoted I don't think we will come straight back down
I believe it's harder to get promotion from this League then it is to stay in League One . Although 4 relegation places isn't nice in that League. With continual good ownership and management we could stay in that League and we could actually do ok first season at least based on momentum
I can just have sympathy with anybody who watches us wondering how we are top of the League
Most of our performances are workmanlike rather than spectacular and I get the bit about not many players that you would think "let's sign him"
Beavon, Mousinho stand out for me a bit.
I'm not complaining and saying we are over achieving is also a compliment in many ways
We make the most of what we have that's for sure

Quote from Ronnie Moore after the game. "I can't believe they are so high in the league based on that performance. I wouldn't be queuing up to take too many of their players and I doubt they'd be queuing for too many of ours. Cheeky git. Can't imagine he would have said the same after the match at the pirelli!

I remember being in Ronnie Moore mode, watching teams towards the top of the table and thinking surely Burton can compete with this these? But we didn't.
Then I spent a lot of time, towards the end of the last couple of seasons, thinking how on earth are we in the playoffs?
This year I am thinking how on earth are we top of the league?
The fact is progress is being made and come the end of the season the league table does not lie. Feeling hopeful that the job can be seen through to promotion, preferably without the playoff torture.

There's a lot of chance and luck in football. Much more than most people are brave enough to consider. It's only the small percentages of probability you can influence, 1 or 2% here and there above blind chance. But those small percentages are important. It's about making sure you concentrate on the things that matter AND the things that matter that you can then sustain season after season to make small, incremental growths both on the field in terms of performance and off it in terms of stability and sustainability. Burton Albion have cracked that 1% every season for the last 15 or so years. That's where clubs like Hartlepool should be looking.

I think you mean to say 100%, and except for the 2012-13 season where the club finished a fair few £'s in the red, I think you are right.
On another side, I can't believe how many glass half empty worriers there are on this and other sites about our chances! People need to stop doubting and Believe! We Are Going Up! Enjoy the ride...

You ca give 100% but after that it is the marginal gains that push you on and result in success. Evidence of this embodied by British cycling team.

I read that Adam Murray (Mansfield manager) is working with a guy who can find small percentage advantages as you guys describe above All the stuff like washing your hands properly to avoid illness, sleeping on the right pillows etc. Young manager with a modern approach. I like that kind of thing. These marginal gains consultants also going into businesses now and advising on better practise It's the way forward

What Peacock is saying is that we need to be decisive. We must now believe we are being promoted. For me personally people have said that I am indecisive. Is this true? Well, sometimes i think it is and sometimes I think it isn't

The "glass half empty worriers" are probably fans in the older age group who have witnessed so many falls at the final hurdle that they refuse to allow themselves to get excited having so often had it followed by crushing disappointment. Some people will inevitably be haunted by past failures such as not turning up at Wembley last May, losing 8 out of the last 13 under Roy McFarland and being cheated out of play-off victory against Cambridge in the Conference. Those who go along way back will remember a Southern League campaign in the early 70's when, when we missed out on the league title after losing at home to already-relegated Ilkeston. Having got this stroll down memory lane off my chest, I promise not to post anymore historical stuff on here for at least the next 8 weeks.

I'm in the older age group as well and was here for the Roy McFarland near train wreck season. People have two choices, to believe that we will continue our excellent season or worry and fret that we won't.
there are 4 scenarios: believe and we do go up believe and we don't go up worry and we do go up worry and we don't go up
the only ones that bring any joy, up until the critical moment when we know for sure, are the first two. IF we fail, even believing until that point would have brought some happy days. Ya gotta believe.

For me, it is just a pragmatic view, there is still just under a quarter of the season to go, plenty can and will happen. Still, we are in the best position of all teams at the moment.

I tend to agree with funky. I have as previously stated been supporting the club since 1969, there have been plenty of anti-climaxes over time. There will be lots of twists and turns as the league is so tight and quite unpredictable this season, however as funky states we are in the best position of all the teams at this moment, I think we need 9 points to exceed our best ever points total in league 2, we have already won 20 league games. Historically speaking, looking at the previous points totals gained to achieve automatic promotion(82 if my memory is correct) we need 5 wins or 15 points to reach that landmark. In my opinion that is very achievable by this squad. Therefor whilst erring on the side of caution I am quietly confident we will be promoted this season and be playing in league 1 next season for the first time in the clubs history, barring any disaster such as injuries and suspensions to key players at key times.

Yeah, people have memories and hopes and concerns and most people are 'yes that would be great but what if' types... Personally, I am not a fence sitter. If I see a player who I think isn't up to it I will say so because that's what my head says. If I believe we are going up I'll say that and hopefully that positivity is infectious. If we are watching a game live I really believe a positive approach/view towards the game gets people more excited and vocal in supporting the team, if we stand there waiting for something to go wrong the silence effects the players. Leeds, Dortmund, Wolfsburg....proper supporters.
